Rahm Emanuel, appointed Chief of Staff to President elect Barack Hussein Obama has been touted as a sign of the future President's closeness to the Jewish people. The applause came from many corners. For some reason, there is a sense of pride that a Jew born into a family which fought for Israel's Independence can descend to Edom and ride his accomplishments to the White House. Pitch forks have come out from every corner too. AntiJews question his loyalty while Israel supporters have a vision of the political reality called "distancing" - don't expect too much from him. Others, fence...

Israel or the Arabians? 18 Iulie 2006 | de Mircea Cartarescu I will ask the readers to forgive my flippancy, but in our media-based world, where the real things are the ones seen on TV, the things might have been like this from the beginning: the Hezbollah group and the other protagonists in the Middle East have quietly waited for the end of the World Cup in Germany and started their own show, this resulting into the highest ratings. It looks like the famous Zidane head in the chest of Materazzi was the spark that fired the eternal powder barrel...

Thousands of Palestinians took to the streets of Ramallah on Tuesday, in one of the biggest shows of solidarity yet with Hizbullah. The rally was organized by Fatah and other factions. During the rally, Fatah officials openly expressed their backing for Hizbullah and urged the Arab countries to join the battle against Israel. Hani al-Hassan, a top Fatah leader closely associated with Abbas, declared that his party had instructed all its armed men to be prepared to fight against Israel. Calling on Hizbullah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah to bomb Tel Aviv, many protesters also chanted slogans against US Secretary of State...

In addition to a cease-fire, Ahmadinejad called for talks on the Lebanon crisis without conditions, and demanded Israel compensate the country and apologize for its actions. He also denied US claims that Iran provides military support for Hizbullah, saying it only supports the movement politically and morally. "We are calling for a cease-fire and ending this war," the Iranian leader told reporters after meetings with...
