Rahm Emanuel, appointed Chief of Staff to President elect Barack Hussein Obama has been touted as a sign of the future President's closeness to the Jewish people. The applause came from many corners. For some reason, there is a sense of pride that a Jew born into a family which fought for Israel's Independence can descend to Edom and ride his accomplishments to the White House. Pitch forks have come out from every corner too. AntiJews question his loyalty while Israel supporters have a vision of the political reality called "distancing" - don't expect too much from him. Others, fence riders and eternal optimists see a favorable voice for Israel in the White House. Some find his religious affiliation to be comforting. more

“Then there is Rahm Emmanuel. he was the key person in the Clinton administration to make Oslo happen in 1992 and 1993. So we have a group of Jewish advisors, some of them Jewish, who are unfriendly to Israel's settlement policies in Judea and Sumaria, also known as the West Bank and eager to divide Jerusalem.
Lets revisit Chief-of-Staff Rahm Emmanuel for a minute. In the early 90’s he was on of the people who helped financially put together Bill Clinton's campaign. He gained tremendous influence in the White House from a group in Israel known as “Peace Now”. In other words, far leftists. The were the ones who engineered the Oslo process, and he (Emmanuel) personally was the one who orchestrated the Rabin-Arafat handshake on the White House lawn in 1993.
Israel National News suggests that if you like the Oslo process (which instead of granting Israel land for peace has left Israel in pieces), then Rahm Emmanuel is your man...”
That's a pretty huge stretch. In fact, it's not clear that Emanuel actually has any "beliefs" beyond the belief that whatever team Rahm Emanuel is on MUST WIN. As chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in 2006, "WIN" was defined as getting a Democrat majority elected to Congress. So he did. That achieving this objective entailed energetically recruiting and backing strongly pro-gun and anti-abortion candidates in some districts was immaterial to Emanuel -- what mattered was that the final scorecard showed the House having more "D" members than "R" members.
It's entirely possible that his current marching orders are "Keep the Jews happy" (both the Jewish House and Senate members, and Jewish voters who will be needed again 4 years from now).
possible. see post #5 for a different opinion. as has been widely discussed, if that is his marching orders his job will not be hard starting with 77%-78% already on hand.
