Rashida Jones is stepping down as president of MSNBC. Jones, who has led the progressive cable news network since 2021, announced her decision to leave in a call with network staff on Tuesday morning, a source told Mediaite. Rebecca Kutler, who left CNN in 2022 and was quickly hired by Jones to serve as senior vice president of content strategy at MSNBC, will be appointed interim president of the network. A number of prominent Republicans have spoken out in opposition to the plan, spearheaded by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), to object to Joe Biden electors from the 2020 battleground states being contested by President Donald Trump. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) was first to announce he would object to Biden electors in Pennsylvania. CNN is planning to cut up to 300 jobs, "many being older employees with years at the network," according to a report on Monday. According to FTVLive, a website that monitors the television industry, "Word is that just under 200 people will be pink slipped and just over 100 will be offered a buyout." The story involves varying allegations against senior NBC News executives, and relates to alleged misconduct from years ago as well as more current allegations against network brass.
