During an interview that took place before it was formally announced that President Trump is commuting Roger Stone’s prison sentence broadcast on Friday’s edition of CNN’s “AC360,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) stated that giving Stone clemency is “a terrible idea” and “appalling.” Pelosi also stated that Congress should pass legislation so that presidents are legally restricted from pardoning anyone who commits a crime “that is caused by protecting the president, which this was.”

<p>CNN host Anderson Cooper apologized for a "crude" remark directed at President Trump supporter Jeffrey Lord during his show on Friday, calling his comment "unprofessional."</p> <p>During a segment on AC360, Cooper verbally sparred with Lord, a CNN political commentator, over revelations that Trump reportedly told Russian officials that former FBI Director James Comey is a "nut job" who was adding pressure to the ongoing investigation of possible interference in the 2016 election. Clearly frustrated with Lord's response to the matter, Cooper interrupted the conservative pundit and interjected with a not-so-subtle jab.</p>

That phrase passed my lips last night on “AC360 Later”, in a heated and, I thought, really interesting discussion. I was pounced on as prejudiced or misinformed or even channeling neoconservatism. So I thought I’d take this opportunity to explain what I mean by that.

CNN's strategy of playing to the middle to distinguish itself from Fox and MSNBC appears to have fallen flat. From the Politico On day one, CNN ruled cable news. But while viewers may flock to the network for election day or the Inauguration, day 130 is a different story. CNN, which just took home a Peabody Award for its 2008 election coverage, and dominated cable-news ratings on days when politics took center stage, is having trouble getting those viewers back on other nights.

Kay Jones, a producer on CNN's Anderson Cooper's "AC360," recently blogged on the show's website that she "deserve[s] the month of May off." Well, she might as well take it because Cooper's fan base is doing just that already. Cooper's ratings have been in a sharp decline all year, and so far the month of May is no exception. Layoffs at CNN's AC360 A TVNewser tipster tells us a round of layoffs hit Anderson Cooper 360 this afternoon. CNN confirms seven producers from the show are being laid off. A spokesperson tells TVNewser, "The format of AC360 has evolved over the last year and we are adjusting staff accordingly. A very small portion of the staff is impacted and we are hopeful they will remain with CNN." This summer AC360 implemented a format that is live for the first hour (10pmET) and remains live or partially live for the second hour (11pmET).
