A MoveOn.org fund, Swift Boat Vets and the League of Conservation Voters will pay more than $600,000. WASHINGTON - The Federal Election Commission on Wednesday slapped heavy fines on three independent fundraising groups that it said had illegally injected tens of millions of dollars into the 2004 presidential campaign, concluding unanimously that the funds were drawn from large donors and corporations in violation of election laws. The fines, which totaled $629,500, targeted two Democrat-leaning groups and one Republican-leaning group. More than $950 million was funneled through organizations known as 527 groups in the 2004 and 2006 elections, much of it...

CBS Evening News contained a brief segment tonight called "State of the Media" which (among other things) discussed the impact of bloggers on traditional media. The most interesting sentence (for me) occurred in a discussion of the infamous 60 Minutes II show in 2004 concerning George Bush's alleged special treatment in the National Guard. According to the CBS announcer, when questionable documents were used in the show, "bloggers quickly EXPOSED them" (emphasis added).

Post mortems in the liberal press on the role that Vietnam veterans played in presidential candidate John Kerry's defeat mask the key role of the liberal press, which tried to suppress the vets' story and is distorting it now. I was there at the creation of a veterans group and all along, and know better. The American people deserve to know better too. In 1971 I organized Vietnam Veterans for a Just Peace. John O'Neill enlisted to counter the smears of American servicemen in Vietnam. No one else spoke up for us, so we had to. The mainstream press was...

This photo's composition could not be an accident. US Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry walks toward a crowd of supporters after delivering a speech at the Milwaukee Area Technical College in Milwaukee. Kerry accused President George W. Bush of bleeding middle-class Americans while lining the pockets of the rich. "In the end, George Bush and I just have fundamentally different approaches to jobs and the economy," Kerry said.(AFP/Hector Mata)

He’s the Other Guy By Chris Shugart, 6 Oct 04 I was in Santa Cruz recently, a college town enclave of progressives and radical leftists—liberal even by California standards. So I wasn’t surprised to see lots of cars displaying anti-Bush and pro-Kerry bumper stickers. But there was one sticker in particular that I saw a few times that stayed with me. Maybe you’ve seen it. It says, “I’m anti-Bush and I vote.” It made me wonder what sort of political message that was supposed to convey. My political experience is modest though not entirely non-existent, but combined with my background...

Posted on Wed, Sep. 22, 2004 IraqThe candidates offer different visions With six weeks left before Americans choose a president, the war in Iraq has emerged as the overriding campaign issue. The two candidates laid out starkly different views of the war this week in back-to-back speeches -- and offered voters a clear choice.Sen. John Kerry, speaking Monday at New York University, said clearly -- for the first time -- that, knowing what we know now (no Iraqi weapons of mass destruction, no ties with al-Qaida), he would not have waged a war to topple Saddam Hussein. "We have traded...

Sunday the President met with First Responders in Alabama, in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan, saying, "I want to thank the search and rescue teams from all over the United States who are here, using every possible asset they have to find those who are still missing." He comforted residents during a walking tour of neighborhoods damaged by Hurricane Ivan in Pensacola, Florida. Today President Bush campaigned in Derry, N.H., before heading to New York City for meetings at the United Nations. Enjoy your daily Dose of W @ Sanity Island.

Open Letter to the Democratic Party To whom it may concern: Be advised that the majority of Veterans and Independent Voters are fed up with your assaults on the Viet Nam Veterans that are exposing your “war hero” When Kerry used his Viet Nam service as his central theme, he seems to have conveniently forgotten the insults he poured on us during the 1971 Senate Hearings. It also seems that he has done everything to keep his “New Soldier” out of the hands of the general public, to include the latest PDF version on a website that is now blocked....

The conventions are over and so, in my opinion, is the election. The thud received by the Democrats from their gathering in Boston was met with a resounding bounce heard round the world from New York City, site of the Republican National Convention. This convention was so effective, John Kerry felt the need to hold a silly midnight rally immediately following George Bush’s acceptance speech. With the possible exception of the chaotic 1968 Democrat fiasco in Chicago, I have seen few political events as riveting as the GOP get together in Madison Square Garden. And that is remarkable, since today's...

John Faustus Kerry was born into a world of privilege. As the scion of a high ranking diplomat he spent his childhood in private schools in Switzerland. During the 1950’s when the rest of us were glued to the tube watching Howdy Doody, the Mickey Mouse Club and Ed Sullivan, he was biking Europe. Specifically he, by his own account was biking Berlin, visiting the bunker of Hitler and visiting the Soviet Sector. At a very young age J. Faustus knew he was destined to be President of the United States. He had the right breeding, the right name, came...

I keep seeing a lot of posts from Freepers saying "OH this is great info but is anyone but Freepers seeing it" Here is a contact list of "Journalists". If you feel strongly that something is not being covered, CONTACT the journalist and demand to know why they are not covering it. The Hysterical Left are grand masters of this sort of media manipulation. The reason their minoirty political viewpoints get over covered is they are so busy bombarding the "journalists" with press releases and emails that the "journalists" think THAT is what the average people are intrested in. If...

Tuesday, March 23, 2004 Bush, Kerry Even in N.M. Popularity By David Miles Copyright © 2004 Albuquerque Journal; Journal Capitol Bureau SANTA FE— Neither President Bush nor Sen. John Kerry is leading the presidential popularity contest in New Mexico so far, a Journal poll found. Forty-three percent of registered voters said they had a favorable impression of Bush, compared to 44 percent for Kerry. New Mexico has been identified by both sides in the 2004 presidential contest as a battleground state. Democrat Al Gore carried the state over Bush four years ago by just 366 votes. Now Bush and Kerry,...

President Bush called Sen. John Kerry tonight to congratulate him on his victories in Super Tuesday. "We had a very nice conversation," the Massachusetts Democrat said. "He called to congratulate me." Despite Kerry's months of vicious attacks, Bush asked that they focus on the issues and have a clean campaign, according to Fox News Channel. Well, there's a first time for everything.

The always provocative Spy takes the plunge - some might say right into the sewer of sleaze and unnamed sources. The cover story of its July/August issue discusses George Bush's supposed infidelities and publishes the name of longtime aide Jennifer A. Fitzgerald, around whom rumors have long circulated. The piece by Joe Conason also details other supposed liaisons, including a 1980 relationship with ''Ms. X,'' then a 30-ish news agency employee.

Not quite false, not quite true They're not myths. Not exactly. But they aren't the full truth either. And I'm getting a little tired of hearing them. Let's start with a perennial complaint: The press is more interested in the horse race than the issues. Maybe it is, but in this election the horse race is an issue. At this point most of the candidates seem to spend less time arguing that they have the right platform than arguing that they can beat Bush. That was, of course, the thrust of most of the attacks on Howard Dean: that his...

WASHINGTON (CNN) --Under fire for saying that the United States should be even-handed in the Israeli-Palestinian dispute, 2004 Democratic presidential front-runner Howard Dean Wednesday said he would not abandon the long-standing policy of strong U.S. support for Israel.

The former Vermont governor said criticism of his remarks by presidential rival Sen. Joseph Lieberman was a "despicable" attempt to divide the Democratic Party, which has long enjoyed the support of many Jewish voters.

Washington, May 14 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. retail sales unexpectedly fell in April as consumers spent less on furniture, clothing and gasoline, suggesting higher unemployment curbed spending.

Sales declined 0.1 percent last month to $309.5 billion, following a revised 2.3 percent increase in March, the Commerce Department said. Excluding automobiles, sales fell 0.9 percent, the biggest drop since the September 2001 terrorist attacks, largely because of a decrease in the price of gasoline.
