A problem that I thought I had licked has returned. When I choose "Self Search", I no longer see my latest post, but I see a reply from several days ago by another poster. That post does not show the normal header and footers all other post-links show. Now, I have to do a search on my name, then scroll through the replies to see if any of my posts have been responded to. Any advice on how to get this feature working correctly again? Thanks in advance.

HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) -- Long lines of people waiting for corn meal snake through the streets of a nation that was once the breadbasket of southern Africa. Some wait for days, sleeping in lines so they won't lose their place. Girls 13 and under are being married off for the bride price to buy expensive black-market food. Many people are getting one meal a day. And Zimbabwe's hunger crisis is sure to get worse. Drought, a crashing economy and a land reform program that has destroyed commercial farming have pushed millions of Zimbabweans to the brink of starvation. Five other...

People weigh less on a hard surface 09:20 30 June 02 Ian Sample It's not a dieter's myth after all. You really do weigh more if you put your scales on the carpet. And now we know why. David MacKay, a physicist at the University of Cambridge, heard about the strange effect after a chance conversation with a fellow academic. "I was just chatting to her and she said, 'You're a physicist. Why do you weigh more on carpet than on a hard surface?' I didn't have a clue, but it seemed like a good question to throw...

One Nation Under God or Under Man?June 30, 2002 The outrage over this week's decision by the Ninth Circuit Court, which declared the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance to be unconstitutional, was reassuring. If only the American people became so indignant about every violation of their rights. This nation's 226th birthday is just a few days away, so it is as good a time as any to reflect on this question: are we a nation under God or a nation under man? Do we as a people seek the freedom that comes when we trust in...

Clue to treatments for fatal Huntington's 19:00 30 June 02 Robin Orwant The genetic defect behind Huntington's disease causes malfunctions in mitochondria, the energy-producing components of cells, new work shows. The finding should help explain how the mutation causes the disease and could lead to new approaches to treatment. Since 1993, researchers have known that Huntington's - an incurable and fatal brain disorder - is caused by a defect in a single gene that encodes a protein called huntingtin. They have also long suspected that some of...

This is my attempt to pinpoint some of the problems of our culture by focusing on a religion that has become popular, especially in the cultural centers of our country, and alerting good Christians of all denominations of what we are up against. The New Age movement can actually be best understood as a broad spectrum of non-Christian philosophies and practices that can be categorized as New Age Spiritual Humanism. The cornerstone of this humanism is the belief that man is divine in nature, and therefore essentially 'God' or an enlightened 'God-Man.' New age man, believing himself to be divinely...

Scientists back further study of chemical in fatty, fried foods GENEVA, June 27 — There is a “major concern” that a substance in certain high-carbohydrate foods — such as french fries and potato chips— may cause cancer, health experts said Thursday after a three-day U.N.-sponsored conference on the subject. THE EXPERTS did not, however, issue guidelines warning consumers against eating foods with the potentially cancer-causing substance, acrylamide. Instead, they said further study is necessary to determine the extent of the risk — and how to reduce it. “It is a matter of high concern and we need to do research...

I wanted to share with you an email that I got from one of the members of a group of dedicated, patriotic FReepers from Columbia, Missouri who gather each and every week to counter-protest the peaceniks in their area. Here is what the email says: "We in Missouri support your efforts in Fresno. Here are a few photos of our June 29th counter-protest in Columbia. Please use them as a solidarity message from us to you. The peaceniks here love their trite messages, so we had prepared a few signs in anticipation. One draw-back is that they insist on having...

2 NY Dems Propose Wall St. Reform Sun Jun 30, 7:16 PM ETBy MICHAEL GORMLEY, Associated Press Writer ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The two Democratic candidates for governor want to use the clout of New York state's $112 billion pension fund to reform Wall Street. Former federal Housing Secretary Andrew Cuomo proposed on Sunday that firms in which the fund invests must disclose any conflict of interest. He also said the comptroller, who makes the fund's investments, should not make decisions on firms that contribute funds to the comptroller's campaign. Cuomo, the eldest son of former Democratic Gov. Mario Cuomo,...

Shoot The Dog, out this week, depicts the singer dressed in a leopard-print thong, trying to approach the Prime Minister's wife. Tony Blair is also depicted in the video portrayed as a poodle to President George W Bush. Michael told the Daily Mirror he is concerned about the growing relationship between the Prime Minister and President Bush. He said: "It occurred to me that Britain was starting to become a more dangerous place than it used to...

CHAERDING, Austria, June 29 (Agence France-Presse) — A self-styled bishop held a ceremony here today to ordain seven women as priests. Roman Catholic officials view the rite as invalid and are threatening to excommunicate the participants. The ceremony was witnessed by 300 guests. "If this ordination does not effectively conform to the laws of the church, it goes against tradition and not against faith," said Christine Mayr-Lumetzberger, a former nun and the women's spokeswoman. The ceremony was performed by Romulo Braschi, an Argentine former Catholic priest who calls himself a bishop and a specialist in karma. His 13,000-member Jesus Rey...

On Midway, a Delicate Balance Sun Jun 30,12:02 PM ETBy B.J. REYES, Associated Press Writer MIDWAY ATOLL (AP) - To World War II veterans, these remote islands one-third of the way from Honolulu to Tokyo always will be known as the site where the fortunes of war in the Pacific shifted in favor of the United States. But ever since the Navy closed its air base here in 1993, more attention has been paid to the birds, turtles, seals and other wildlife that inhabited the atoll long before the military. Since March, when an environmental tour operator shut down, public...

What part don't they understand? By Bennett M. Epstein June 30, 2002 Am I missing something here? What part of President Bush's speech on the preconditions for a Palestinian state don't the Europeans understand? Bush clearly said that a regime compromised by terror and corruption cannot be trusted to give birth to a state next to Israel, and therefore a new leadership, free of terrorism and corruption, is required before a Palestinian state can be recognized by the United States and before such a state should be recognized by the rest of the world. What part of that was ambiguous?...

New State Laws to Take Effect Smokers in six states will pay more for their habit as of Monday, nudity with "artistic value" will no longer be off-limits to minors in Utah, and teddy bears will have official status as the state toy of Mississippi. Hundreds of new laws take effect with the July 1 start of fiscal years in many states. The laws reflect legislators' concerns with the burdensome threats of terrorism and budget deficits, spiked with a few less-weighty matters. Florida lawmakers, for example, found time to stipulate that cooking-school students under the legal drinking age can taste...

It may seem odd that anyone could be against the establishment of an international tribunal to investigate war crimes and genocide. Many people - by no means only liberal internationalists - dislike the idea that dictators are able to escape justice simply because their own national legal systems have been subverted.Such people find it hard to understand why America is refusing to support the International Criminal Court (ICC), which is formally constituted today. Clare Short, the International Development Secretary, has described Washington's attitude as "an enormous disappointment". Cherie Blair has called it "a lost opportunity". Surely, they say, the Americans must...

AMMAN, JORDAN – Eleven men with ties to Al Qaeda are arrested in an alleged plan to target US and Israeli Embassies. For the second time in two years, Jordanian officials say they have halted an Islamist plot against the United States. The arrest of 11 suspected militants – who are said to have Al Qaeda ties – may have short-circuited plans to attack a variety of US and Israeli targets in the area. The arrests were confirmed to the Monitor by the state prosecutor, Mahmoud Obeidat, who says the men are accused of "conspiring to carry out terrorist actions...
