ATHENS, Sept 12 (AFP) - Greek police evacuated the Athens stock exchange and two buildings with US connections in the capital Wednesday after receiving bomb threats following massive terrorist attacks in the United States. A police spokesman said the financial centre of the city was cleared followed two anonymous calls warning that a bomb had been planted at the stock exchange. Police searched the premises and turned up empty-handed. A Greek-American teaching institute and the offices of the American firm Procter and Gamble were also evacuated after bomb warnings, but no devices were found. The Bourse opened for trading at ...

About 5:50 am Pacific, ABC's Ted Koppel was being interviewed. He was in London. It was mentioned that before Koppel became famous for Nightline, he served as a correspondent covering the U.S. State Department. Koppel said he had been watching the ABC coverage this morning for a "couple of hours" and that he was "stunned" when he saw the interview early this morning of former Secretary of Defense, William Cohen, and Cohen mentioned the use of nuclear weapons among the list of possible responses to yesterday's terrorist attack. Koppel said it was the first time he ever recalls any high ...

Statement of Secretary of Transportation Norman Y. Mineta One of the most cherished American freedoms is the freedom of movement, the ability to move freely and safely. Today that freedom has been attacked. We will restore that freedom throughout the national transportation system as soon as possible. And we will restore the highest possible degree of safety. These terrorist acts are designed to steal the confidence of Americans. We will restore that confidence. We have already taken some first steps. As a precaution, I have ordered the FAA to ground all commercial air traffic until at least ...

Some random thoughts (sorry for the vanity): I remember about 5 years ago Algerian terrorists were planning the same type of plane bombings over Paris. They wanted to cause the maximum amount of civilian casualties. They were caught and stopped. Depending on the final number of dead at the WTC, it will equal about the number of abortions done EACH DAY in America.

Why is Peter Jennings still on the air?? After yesterday's performance, Jennings needs to be fired and fired now! He questions Bush's mental stability, question Bush about not making a statement earlier, and covers for the celebrations of the Palestinians. In the whole scheme of things, this is really meaningless, but still we don't need an anti-American broadcaster for our national news. Shoot, even Democrats can show patriotism at a time like this.

'KILL one, frighten a thousand" is the terrorist watchword. Yesterday, a terrorist organisation, or group of organisations, killed hundreds, perhaps thousands of people. The atrocity will frighten not merely individuals, but whole populations and the states that rule them. It was a dark event in the history of human liberty. The most likely outcome is the imposition of measures to restrict freedom of movement and residence. Such measures will be ineffective in preventing a repetition of the disasters, but will be made all the same. The introduction of identity cards, compulsorily to be carried at all times, is a probable ...

I can make a simple flat statement here: "You cannot make any motorized passenger travel completely safe from suicide-minded terrorists!"These WTC Terrorists used knives, shaving supplies and box-cutters to attack/kill the stewardists in order to force the pilots to exit and defend THEIR PEOPLE! Can anybody think of any other action, under the known circumstances at that time, that the pilots would have done? All Terrorists have the ability to strike at the time and place of THEIR choice and advantage. When they have no concern about their future survival, they have an almost complete freedom of action. Their sponsors want ...

Some have already begun to speak of rage and revenge, but it is yet too soon for that. For now, we must take a moment or two to grieve. There is time in the days ahead for retaliation, retribution, justice, carefully planned and executed. But this day is for mourning. For all the mothers and fathers who took the daily trip into New York's financial district for another workday of conferences and faxes and e-mails but who will never come home again to supervise homework or bake a birthday cake. For all the stockbrokers and financial analysts who thought the ...

RALEIGH -- As I write these words I have no idea if my brother Timothy, a New York City cop who works in Lower Manhattan, is dead or alive. I was sickened as a I watched the World Trade Center spires collapse on live television. A native New Yorker, I have visited the center many times and have gazed in wonder at its magnificence. Now a terrorist attack has reduced it to rubble, perhaps killing thousands in the process. The events of Sept. 11, 2001 will surely be remembered as among the most horrifying in world history. Many of ...

I shall try not to comment or editorialize, but it's hard, it's hard. Just look at this letter to the editor in Pravda. (And before you give me grief about reading it, how different is if from the Boston Globe??) Look: JAMES HECKEL: WE TRULY DESERVED TO BE BOMBED Dear Editor, Firstly, I must commend you on a well-done website. I found it to be excellent and easy to browse. Good show! Secondly, as a citizen of the US, let me add my voice of outrage over my country's cowardly, imperialistic attacks on the rest of the world. We truly ...

BEIJING (Reuters) - A spokesman for an anti-Taliban opposition alliance on Wednesday blamed a ``triangle'' of interests operating from Afghanistan for the catastrophic terror attacks on the United States. Abdul Basir Hotak, who represents Afghanistan's U.N.-recognized government in Beijing, named the three elements as exiled Saudi dissident Osama bin Laden, Pakistan's military intelligence and the Taliban, who are sheltering bin Laden. ``We are surprised very much that until now the international community do not understand what is the original face of the international terrorism,'' Hotak told Reuters. ``They are talking only about Osama bin Laden,'' said Hotak, in reference to ...

The Man Who Made it Down From the 78th Floor Personal testimony of a survivor from the 78th floor: Ari Schonbrun, whose office was on the 101st floor in World Trade Center #1, told Arutz-7 today how his life was saved by "miracle after miracle after miracle:" I was on the 78th floor, about to enter an elevator for the 101st floor ( I happened to have stayed home an extra ten minutes in order to help my son for school…), when I heard a tremendous explosion. All the electricity went out, I entered an office where I saw ...
