TIRANA, Albania, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- The U.N. Mission in Kosovo has set up a Serb Protection Force Unit to monitor the Serb parts of the Yugoslav province, officials said Monday.
"It will be a Serbian unit, but it is not a parallel unit," said Susan Manuel, a UNMIK spokeswoman in Pristina. She said the unit will be under the command of Gen. Agim Ceku, the head of the Kosovo protection force.
The Kosovo Information Center said the Serb Protection Force Unit would have 500 troops.
The KPF was founded in 1999, a few months after the end of the Kosovo conflict and the disarming of the Kosovo Liberation Army. It was designed to be an unarmed body that would help in civil rehabilitation projects in Kosovo and the international police in the province.
The KPF was to have 5,000 troops, 10 percent of which was from minorities. Kosovo, which is a U.N.-administered province, is an Albanian-majority province. Yugoslavia, however, is dominated by Serbs.
"Ten percent of the Kosovo Protection Force was reserved for minorities, but it was very difficult to achieve this percentage," Manuel said.
The new Serb unit was to be deployed in Gracanice, a Serb enclave 3 miles east of the provincial capital, Pristina. Manuel said the Serb unit would serve only in those areas with Serbian populations.
Analysts said the decision would encourage Serb participation in Kosovo's general elections, which are 60 days away.
I guess I missed them. Could you please post the links?

Son of a gun, I missed all of them too! Looking forward to seeing the links to those posts!
I find tremendous irony that Milosevic was cracking down on terrorists when the US decided to support the terrorists and in a sense become terrorists themselves during their 74 days of bombing.
It would be interesting to eavesdrop over a conversation between a Belgrade resident from those 74 days during the Spring of 1999 and a New York resident from September 11, 2001. I imagine they could understand each other's fear and pain.
I see, so are you retracting your statement about Americans comparing Arkan to Mother Theresa?

clinton's support goes back further than that. Clinton approved Iranian arms transfer
Remember also, that Albania was a part of the Axis in World War 2, and the position even of Croatia was not one I can approve of.
THE SERBS STOOD WITH US SHOULDER TO SHOULDER AGAINST THE NAZIS IN WORLD WAR 2, AND LOOK WHAT Scum-bag Clinton DID TO THEM, for DARING TO RESIST THE ISLAMIC ADVANCE IN THE BALKANS! These are our friends and allies, if we have any in the world at all, the Serbs surely must be among the top few. They also were with us in WW I.
We owe Serbia big time, and Milosevic may not be my idea of a nice guy, but he was ON OUR SIDE and TOUGH, and such persons are too few to be easily expendable for some left-wing internationalist's idea of polictical correctness.
Thank`s for your honesty, and sorry for your terrible loss on Tuesday!
Not exactly. They were conquered by Italy and forced into serving their Axis masters, as were many others.
OTOH, here is an old USA Today article about our KLA allies.
