Guess what, Audie? President Obama was not on the raid that killed Osama bin Laden. Truman was not aboard the Enola Gay. Ordering something and carrying it out are different jobs. But on Friday's CNN This Morning, host Audie Cornish held Pete Hegseth to a different standard. The setup was Jonah Goldberg criticizing the way Hegseth had announced the public firing squad execution of Nidal Hasan, the Islamist terrorist who murdered 13 soldiers at Fort Hood: "Secretary Chesty McBroseph is just trying to show off how macho he is; a max-T thing." Cornish then took her shot at Hegseth. "And...

Gasoline-only cars fell below 50% of global new vehicle sales for the first time, as the Hormuz crisis and record fuel prices accelerated the shift toward EVs. EV sales surged across major markets, with European BEV sales jumping 52% year-over-year in August and second-quarter global EV sales rising 35% from Q1. High oil and fuel prices could permanently accelerate EV adoption, although charging infrastructure and critical-mineral supply remain major constraints. The share of gasoline cars in global vehicle sales fell below 50% for the first time ever as the Hormuz shock and the resulting record-high fuel prices accelerated the previously...

“Our body our choice,” Cornell’s Jane Doe wrote in a text exchange with one of the seven men she has accused of sexually assaulting her during a 2024 encounter, according to screenshots published this week by TMZ. Doe, who now claims she was raped, casually described the incident as a “gangbang” in the message sent days after it took place. But those comments, which cast further doubt on Doe’s claim that her participation was involuntary, are missing from articles published by The New York Times and CBS New York that were based on the same text thread. Both The Times...

As traditional software systems were being deployed across the economy over the last few decades, we had the tools and capability to trace behaviors to a specific code path. That same kind of mechanistic understanding eludes us in today’s Super Intelligence systems, even as the frontier models powering these systems are now more capable than traditional software systems. We can’t attribute model behaviors and outputs to specific inputs of training data or configurations of model weights. And yet we are deploying these complex agentic systems and models, with access to our most sensitive data and giving them the ability to take...

The American left always congratulates itself as “First Amendment advocates,” even as they campaign to shut conservatives up. The foundation of Harper’s magazine announced they are giving their 2026 “First Amendment Award” to NPR CEO Katherine Maher. She runs a network that won’t give conservatives a right to speak on their formerly taxpayer-funded airwaves. The invitation to their October 26 ceremony – ticket price “$85-$25,000” – describes the award this way: Named for James C. Goodale, the former New York Times general counsel who helped secure the Pentagon Papers victory before the Supreme Court, the award recognizes visible and consequential...

As the U.S. war with Iran lifts gas prices, there’s one market that’s been surging: secondhand electric vehicles. The federal government’s axing of clean-vehicle credits made EVs more expensive, which tanked sales of new vehicles. But Cox Automotive estimates used electric vehicles sales likely hitting an all-time high of about 127,000 units in the third quarter, with Tesla being the biggest beneficiary. “The longer gasoline stays over $4 a gallon, you get a lot more consumers willing to consider and/or pull the trigger on a used EV,” Jeremy Robb, Cox’s chief economist, told Forbes.

A series of practically unknown wealthy individuals with little history of political spending have been donating millions of dollars to support far-Left candidates in the 2026 midterm elections. Progressives have been scooping up primaries across the US over the past few months with the support of far-Left organizations such as the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), and funding from Democratic establishment and 'anti-Aipac' super PACs. The money flowing into those races has come in large part from non-traditional donors, many of whom are of South Asian or Middle Eastern descent and work in industries such as tech and medicine. The...

In Michigan this year, a new super PAC vowing to fight pro-Israel money chipped in more than half a million dollars to help progressive Abdul El-Sayed’s Senate bid. Its funders: a crew of virtually unknown political donors, many of whom had never given to politics before last year but have since donated up to $1 million each. In New York, billionaire Alex Soros cut checks directly to progressive politicians, including Reps. Pramila Jayapal of Washington and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. Those donations are part of the millions of dollars that Soros and his father, George, plan to give to Democratic...

Explanation: Scientists are melting holes in the bottom of the world. In fact, almost 100 holes melted near the South Pole are now being used as an astronomical observatory. Astronomers with the IceCube Neutrino Observatory lowered a long string knotted with basketball-sized light detectors into each vertical lake. The water in each hole soon refreezes. The detectors attached to the strings are sensitive to blue light emitted in the surrounding clear ice. Such light results from fast-moving secondary particles liberated when high-energy neutrinos emitted by powerful processes out in the universe collide with ice molecules. IceCube has now detected many...

The highly vulnerable devices have turned into tools for combatants to track, surveil and attack the enemy As U.S. and Israeli forces bombed Iran early this year, a poultry farmer in northern Israel decided to check on his chickens. When he launched the app on his phone for the webcam outside his coop, he was alarmed to see that its language had been switched to Arabic. He contacted Israel’s National Cyber Directorate, which found that hackers had taken control of the Chinese-made camera. They weren’t interested in chickens. The camera’s orientation on the coop offered it a line of sight...

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said Russia interfered in the 2016 Brexit vote, as he warned voters in France and Germany about Moscow-backed efforts to influence their politics. Burnham, who took over as Britain's leader in July and said last month that Britain could consider rejoining the European Union in the future, is the first British prime minister to say openly there was evidence of Russian interference in the referendum a decade ago. "I asked the question coming to Downing Street, was there interference in the 2016 referendum from Russia? And I've had the clear answer that yes, there was,"...
