The late chairman of the Federal Reserve, who died this morning at 100, believed that âgold and economic freedom are inseparable.â⌠⌠In the strongest terms, Greenspan condemned those who would redistribute national income through fiscal overspending. He deemed it a scheme for the âhiddenâ confiscation of wealth. âGold stands in the way of this insidious process,â he wrote. âIt stands as a protector of property rights.â In Greenspanâs view, that explained the âalmost hysterical antagonism toward goldâ among big government statists.⌠⌠Here I am proud and grateful to acknowledge that I was considered by Alan Greenspan to be...

Iran has denied a claim by Vice-President JD Vance that it will allow nuclear inspectors back into the country, after the first round of talks between Washington and Tehran to reach a final deal to end the war.
