Yet another member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, General Ali Mohammad Naeini, was reportedly killed in an airstrike overnight. He's just the latest high-ranking Iranian official to be dispatched to the afterlife thanks to the U.S.-Israel airstrikes that have decimated Iran for the past three weeks. Naeini was one of several Iranian leaders who were reportedly killed in the most recent airstrikes. The reigning NBA champion OKC Thunder will not make the traditional White House visit prior to its road game against the Washington Wizards on Saturday. A team spokesperson told The Athletic that a "timing issue" prevented the visit from happening. Oil prices have risen to more than $100 a barrel amid escalating conflict with Iran, pushing fuel prices up by more than 20% in just one month. Of course, this is bad news for U.S. consumers. But could it be good news for retirees? The latest estimates from the Senior Citizens League call for a 2.8% Social Security COLA in 2027 — the exact same raise beneficiaries received this year. But this estimate was made before the Iran situation disrupted global oil supplies. And there’s a chance it could make the 2027 COLA much higher.

Pennsylvania’s welfare fraud rate surged 165 percent in 2025, vaulting the Commonwealth to the fourth‑highest rate in the nation and raising fresh questions about whether Harrisburg and its largest cities are equipped to protect taxpayer dollars. The spike comes as the state’s primary anti‑fraud watchdog, the Office of State Inspector General, operates with long‑standing vacancies and limited independence, while major jurisdictions such as Philadelphia and Pittsburgh lack their own welfare fraud units or truly independent inspectors general with law‑enforcement authority

Mr. Trump has been deliberating whether to position ground forces in the region, sources said on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly. It was unclear under what circumstances he would authorize the use of troops on the ground."No, I'm not putting troops anywhere,"...

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday said that overthrowing Iran’s regime will require a “ground component” along with a revolution, as the U.S.-Israeli conflict with the Middle Eastern country nears the start of its fourth week. “It is often said that you can’t win –– you can’t do revolutions from the air, that is true,” Netanyahu said in a press conference in Jerusalem. “You can’t do it only from there, you can do a lot of things from the air and we’re doing –– but there has to be a ground component, as well. “There are many possibilities for...

I've recently gone back to keeping a Bug Out Bag (Get Home Bag), in my truck. I thought it a prudent step given that I live in a rural area, drive a very old pickup truck and note that the world in general appears to be getting even more crazy. I've perused the internet and found multiple GHB/BOB lists covering the basics. However, I thought it would be informative to get input from my fellow FReepers who also have GHB/BOBs.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul became the latest blue-state leader to lament the flight of wealthy tax-paying residents to Republican-led tax havens like Florida, Alaska, Wyoming and Tennessee, calling millionaires who stayed in the Empire State to fund its massive social services net “patriotic.” With Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis declaring his jurisdiction a “free state” for transplants wishing to leave liberal policies and taxation behind, blue states like New York, Illinois and California are squeezing and at times pursuing natives who emigrate to financially greener pastures — while at the same time, some governors are blasting conservative voters as inauthentic...
