The reigning NBA champion OKC Thunder will not make the traditional White House visit prior to its road game against the Washington Wizards on Saturday.
A team spokesperson told The Athletic that a "timing issue" prevented the visit from happening. OKC had a road game against the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday.
“We have been in touch with the White House and we are appreciative and grateful for the communication we have had, but the timing just didn’t work out,” the Thunder said in its statement shared with The Athletic.

Security...post visit, as the military operation continues. Makes sense. Some other time.
All good some other time there is really no rush for that
He’s got a war to win and a country to save.
So obvious. In a sane world, all other “timing conflicts” would be resolved in order to get to go to the visit with the President at the Whitehouse, no matter the party.
I’m getting really tired of these scheduling conflict excuses. They wouldn’t be doing this with a Democrat President. Everybody knows that.
The shame in all this is that Trump is probably the most appreciative of athletic accomplishment of any President ever, so all of these babies are missing a genuinely joyful moment of recognition for what they have done.
On the other hand...it’s the WNBA. So is it really worth an invitation in the first place for winning a championship?
Isn’t it a bit late in the game for a visit? I mean the playoffs are going to be starting in less than a month now on April 18. They had the entire off season etc. to schedule this.
Yep.
True.
Big time.
Exactly.
?????
Oklahoma City Thunder are in the NBA, men’s NBA, not the women’s NBA.
Whatever dude.
All they had to do was to say "No plans to visit the White House" and leave it at that.
Well said. The championship was attained last summer. There was ample time after that for a visit and recognition. Now, the Thunder is in the pursuit if another championship and gets the invitation during a three game stretch on the East Coast where they played the Magic, the Nets, and have the Wizards (Bullets) set for tomorrow. At this point, OKC has a 3 game lead on San Antonio in the standings. SA has beaten OKC all three times they have played this season. There are no other games between them unless the playoffs force it. Still, to think that a day away from the quest should take priority is a little selfish for those that find fault with OKC. Yes, it is an honor - but to cause a team of professionals to be distracted from their jobs is not proper. The time will come. My question in all of this (what some want to make a kerfuffle) is why was the team not recognized between June and October of last year when there would be no scheduling issues? Just sayin’ and note the WH did not launch any criticism.
Gwjack
Great. Now the White House staff doesn’t have to worry about hiding the silverware.
Unless the White House comes out with a statement saying they couldn't accommodate their schedule and will host them at another time this is just spoiled liberal athletes playing politics. And this team is located in the most Republican state. If I was a season ticket holder I'd cancel next year for this alone.
F the NBA.
Yep.
As I recall there wasn’t all that big of a turnout for their championship parade.
