MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — An appeals court on Wednesday suspended a decision that restricts immigration officers' aggressive tactics in Minnesota, while Maine declined a request for more undercover license plates for U.S. Customs and Border Protection vehicles, citing “abuses of power” during the Trump administration's crackdown. The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals was persuaded to freeze a judge's ruling that bars officers from using tear gas and other steps against peaceful protesters while the administration pursues an appeal. Operation Metro Surge, an immigration enforcement operation in Minnesota's Twin Cities, began in early December.

If progressives distrust Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s vision of healthy eating, they should rethink giving the government control over grocery aisles. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), under Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., recently released its long-awaited dietary guideline revisions for 2025–2030. The 10-page document has drawn both praise and fire from dietitians and public health experts. While lauding the emphasis on eating real, whole foods, some experts argue that Kennedy's prioritization of dairy and meat does not reflect nutritional science. Progressives have claimed Kennedy's focus on red meat is creating a "funnel of performative masculinity" and a culture...

Lawmakers have taken the next step toward holding Bill and Hillary Clinton in contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a subpoena to testify in the congressional Jeffrey Epstein investigation. The Republican-controlled House Oversight Committee voted to send the effort to the full House for a vote. House Speaker Mike Johnson, who supports holding the Clintons in contempt, has committed to having the chamber vote on the resolutions. Some Democrats joined with Republicans in voting to hold the former president in contempt. The vote to hold the former secretary of state in contempt was also bipartisan. But fewer Democrats...

In a remarkable twist that bridges ancient ambition with cutting-edge science, physicists working at the Large Hadron Collider have achieved what medieval alchemists only dreamed of: turning lead into gold. While attempting to recreate conditions moments after the Big Bang, researchers on the ALICE experiment in Switzerland inadvertently produced minuscule quantities of the precious metal, marking an unexpected breakthrough in particle physics. The Accidental Discovery The extraordinary transformation occurred during experiments where beams of lead nuclei were fired at each other at velocities approaching the speed of light. While the primary goal was to study the primordial state of the...

Every year from mid- to late February, the setting sun hits Yosemite’s Horsetail Fall along the eastern edge of the soaring El Capitan at just the right angle, creating the illusion that the 1,575-foot waterfall is on fire. This Yosemite National Park phenomenon, aka “firefall,” is ultra-popular, and this year is expected to be even more crowded. For the first time since 2021, park reservations are not required to visit Yosemite during firefall. The past 12 months have been tumultuous for the National Park Service, with a 43-day government shutdown, changing free-entry days, and price increases. Now, its rangers will...

In the face of surging antisemitism across New York state — fueled by incessant illegal demonstrations in support of terrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah — Attorney General Letitia James jumped into the fray to prosecute … Jews. James’ office announced last week that she’s concluded an agreement with Betar — a small and obscure Zionist group that advocates for Jewish safety and self-determination — forcing it to cease operations in New York. The AG says Betar engaged in a “campaign of violence, harassment, and intimidation against Arab, Muslim, and Jewish New Yorkers.” Among the group’s activities were counter-protesting at...

Explanation: A mere 56 million light-years distant toward the southern constellation Fornax, NGC 1365 is an enormous barred spiral galaxy about 200,000 light-years in diameter. That's twice the size of our own barred spiral Milky Way. This sharp image from the James Webb Space Telescope's Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI) reveals stunning details of this magnificent spiral in infrared light. Webb's field of view stretches about 60,000 light-years across NGC 1365, exploring the galaxy's core and bright newborn star clusters. The intricate network of dusty filaments and bubbles is created by young stars along spiral arms winding from the galaxy's central bar....

President Donald J. Trump‘s speech at the World Economic Forum (WEF) summit in Davos, Switzerland, on Wednesday eclipsed that of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Tuesday. Carney had been lauded by the corporate media and some world leaders after delivering an anti-American speech, with Trump giving him a stark, single-sentence warning in his own address. Prime Minister Carney had slammed U.S. foreign policy, admitting that Canada had greatly benefited from America’s global hegemony in the past but complaining that it was now undermining the “multilateral institutions on which the middle powers have relied.”“Our view is the middle powers must...
