The U.S. has intercepted encrypted communications believed to have originated in Iran that may serve as "an operational trigger" for "sleeper assets" outside the country, according to a federal government alert sent to law enforcement agencies.

The intercepted transmission was encoded and appeared to be destined for "clandestine recipients" who possess the encryption key, the kind of message intended to impart instructions to "covert operatives or sleeper assets" without the use of the internet or cellular networks. …. "While the exact contents of these transmissions cannot currently be determined, the sudden appearance of a new station with international rebroadcast characteristics warrants heightened situational awareness," the alert said.

Supposedly it is broadcasting at certain times on 7910 kHz on short wave radio.

Million years ago my dad had a portable radio that picked up crazy worldwide stuff like some beeping signal from Russia.

I wonder if the tower can be found and destroyed. I am sure it can, but it is a question of priority.
Look. They are using sleeper cells whether they are attacked or not. That this time it’ll be more intense no doubt. But it’s better to do something to root out the cancer than not doing anything because fear of surgery knife.

No license required. The radio your dad had would pribably have been perfect to receive it. Short wave radio is almost a forgotten thing. 25 years ago, I bought a Sony ICF-SW7600GRB, which is a portable shortwave radio that can pick up AM, FM, and both long and shortwave frequencies with single side band. I use to be able to listen to ham radio operators on it plus some overseas stations like BBC and Radio Japan. Even back then I had to buy off the internet. The people in Best Buy even back then had no idea what I was talking about when I asked. Zenith use to make a SW radio many decades ago that was not uncommon.
