The body wasn't even cold before the Buffalo Bills decided to let go of Sean McDermott.
The Bills fired McDermott on Monday after the teamโs heartbreaking playoff loss to the Denver Broncos in the AFC divisional round.
That loss, team owner Terry Pegula said, single-handedly cost McDermott his job....
The owner also made sure to note that Allen "didn't have any input at all" in the decision.
"I didn't talk to Josh about this. I talked to him afterwards, but that conversation will stay private," Pegula said.

That play was definitely a head-scratcher.
It’s McDermott’s fault that his receivers didn’t catch balls that him them right in the hands?
I really feel it was a power play. Many Bill fans feel Beane should have been let go. The news conference just made the Bills fans more angry.
I hope Sean gets a great coaching job (Steelers!!!) and take the team to the Super Bowl.
As Sean send in his letter after his firing, “GOD has a plan!”
“Bills owner dives into reasoning for Sean McDermott firing, blames ‘coaching’ on lack of wide receiver success”. Maybe the wide receivers don’t catch all that good.
Even if they made the coaching change for a good reason (and that's questionable), they handled this in a horrible way. This is now a turning point for the franchise, and it really could go either way, depending on whether or not they get the right coach.
My hope is that they get Klint Kubiak from Seattle, but I don't have any real say in the matter.
Go Bills!
No; he’s blaming McDermott and not GM Brandon Beane for drafting receiver Keon Coleman, who was known as a slug at FLorida State, two years ago...
They should address who was responsible for trading away Stefon Diggs....the Bills offense almost turned on a dime for the worse since then...
I'll hang up and take my answer over the air.
I didn’t talk to Josh about this. I talked to him afterwards, but that conversation will stay private,” Pegula said.
It should be along the lines of “You’re next!”.
Allen had an awful game. He unfortunately messed up at the most critical points of the game.
Sean McDermott always got Bills to the playoffs, but never past the AFC championship game. Meanwhile Bills fans are afraid Josh Allen’s career is being wasted
The best analogy is Denver Broncos and John Elway.
Elway’s first coach, Dan Reeves, got the Broncos and Elway to the playoffs multiple times, even to three Super Bowls, in which Denver always got blown out
Broncos then hired Mike Shanahan, and Elway and the Broncos had 2 Super Bowl victories in 3 years.
I imagine that’s what the Bills’ owner is hoping for....
Diggs last season with the Bills was not good. Also, he started his prima donna act and quickly lost the respect of management.
The guy is a train-wreck. Accussations of assault, now choking his personal chef. 5 different baby-mommas, etc..
He's gonna blow up on the Patriots next year - just watch.
Kubiak is likely to end up in Baltimore- he’ll bring a lot of the former Ravens coaches with him over from Seattle.
There was talk two years ago McDermott was going to get fired because he could not get the Bills past the Chiefs. Of course firing McDermott and PROMOTING Beane is as dumb as it gets...
At least he's consistent. ๐
He’s never won an overtime game.
At least he’s consistent. ๐
Pegula is just taking a needed break from handwriting thank you notes to each and every NY taxpayer for providing $850 million in state and county funding for his new stadium.
Thanks for reviewing that, do you think it means Tomlin?
Beane chose WR Keon Coleman in the draft, who has been a complete bust in the NFL. With the very next pick the Chargers chose WR Ladd McConkey, who lit up the league and set a rookie record for yard receiving in a playoff game. Yet McDermott got fired. The Raiders should hire him.
If the Raiders take Mendoza, they might want to consider hiring his IU OC, Mike Shanahan.
Then he would be the second head coach named “Mike Shanahan” in Raiders history. (But they are not related to each other)
Terry Pegula just made one of the dumbest decisions ever in the NFL... Firing a coach that got his team to the playoffs for 7 consecutive years and 8 times in total... A team that hadn’t been to the post season since 1999... Turned completely around after Sean McDermott took over as coach in 2017... Now they need a new coach with an fast aging QB who showed a lot of promise and has delivered nothing but heartache.
Good luck with that Mr. Pegula... BTW - The Patriots are back and if you think that they’re going to give up the AFC East anytime soon, when they have one of the hottest QB’s at age 23 heading to the Super Bowl after this weekends beatdown of the Bronco’s... You have another thing coming.
Enjoy the wilderness... Your team was there before and they got used to it... You’ll get familiar with that wilderness again with your new coach who will likely miss the playoffs next year. Then what will you do??? LOL
