An Orthodox Jewish man was attacked on the New York City subway last night, in an incident that was recorded and published on social media. In the footage, two men approach a group of Orthodox men, reportedly members of the Chabad Lubavitch sect, and begin hurling insults at them. One of the Jewish men then appears to step in between the two aggressors and the other Jewish men, at which point they turn on him and threaten to “teach [him] a lesson,” before grabbing him by the neck. “The (*redacted*) you doing?” the attacker can be heard demanding of the...

President Donald Trump’s chief of staff Susie Wiles offered a remarkably candid window into a presidency she described, repeatedly, as driven by impulse and a widening view of executive power, in a blockbuster Vanity Fair portrait built around months of exclusive on-the-record conversations. Wiles may be the most powerful figure in Trump’s West Wing besides Trump himself, but her role is exercised less as a brake than as a gearbox, translating the president’s instinct into policy, and urging everyone else to fall into line. “I’m not an enabler. I’m also not a bitch,” Wiles said. “I guess time will tell...

Since this country’s founding, newly arrived immigrants wanted to become Americans, and did just that, conforming to our culture and values. Why is it that now, over the past several decades, we don’t expect the same conformity from our “adopted refugees?” How is it considered racist to expect newly arrived immigrants (legal or illegal) and refugees to become “Americanized”? Early 1993, I deployed to Somalia to support Operation Restore Hope. If you saw the 2001 movie Black Hawk Down, the Mogadishu of 1993 was worse than portrayed in that movie. Somalia was never what one could call a “successful country.”...

Running out the clock: The FBI and DOJ slow-walked their investigation into the Clinton Foundation and the sale of Uranium One to Russia-backed interests. As a result of roadblocks, the statute of limitations was allowed to lapse on any prosecution. Federal investigators believed there was significant evidence worth pursuing related to possible criminality involving the Clinton Foundation and the State Department’s approval of the sale of Uranium One to Russian state-owned interests, but delays by the Justice Department and FBI led the inquiry to whither and die because of statute of limitations issues. The sale of the Canada-based Uranium One...

A senior counterterrorism official has told the ABC Naveed and Sajid Akram underwent military-style training in the southern Philippines last month. The father and son returned to Australia late last month, just weeks before the Bondi Beach massacre. Father-son gunmen Sajid and Naveed Akram travelled to the Philippines to receive "military-style training" in the month before they killed 15 people at a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach, security sources have confirmed. The revelation...

That sound you hear could be the result of worry beads rubbing furiously against each other. It is an open question as to whether those worry beads are being rubbed by California Democrats or by Politico writer Melanie Mason or by both. The source of the angst is that there are just too many Democrats running for Governor of the Golden State, with eight so far that have thrown their hats into the ring. And why should this be a cause for worry? Because since California has an open nonpartisan primary next June, such a crowded Democrat field threatens to divide...

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing Verona-based Epic Systems, alleging the company runs an illegal monopoly and blocks parents from accessing their children's medical records. Paxton's suit alleges that Epic uses its electronic health records (EHR) software to effectively control how and when that data can be accessed. Additionally, the suit alleges that Epic makes it nearly impossible for health care providers to switch EHR providers by imposing huge financial penalties for doing so. "Epic publicly admits it does not "own" those records," Paxton wrote. "But Epic has used its position as an EHR software database architect to insert...

Multiple splinter cell members of the radical Turtle Island Liberation Front, which posts disturbing slogans such as “Death to America” on social media, were arrested last Friday for allegedly plotting a New Year’s Eve terror attack in the Los Angeles area. On his first day in office in his second term, January 20, 2025, President Trump issued a collection of Executive Orders. One of those was number 14160, titled “Protecting the Meaning and Value of American Citizenship.” EO 14160 seeks to do away with the long-standing practice of various U.S. agencies of recognizing U.S. citizenship of anyone born in the United States, even if that person’s parents were not legal residents or otherwise legally in the country at the time of the birth. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. What a weekend of massacres this one had. In the three however they...

Joe Ely, the singer-songwriter who helped drive a new wave of Texas-based music that united rock and country fans in the 1980s and beyond, died Monday. The cause of death was complications from Lewy Body Dementia, Parkinson's disease and pneumonia. An announcement from the family said that Ely died at his home in Taos, New Mexico, with his wife and manager, Sharon, and daughter, Marie, at this side. In 1999, Modern Twang writer David Goodman called the Lubbock-bred Ely "the consummate alternative country artist of the last 25 years,” and the passage of another quarter-century and change since that remark was...
