These posts are always nice to see.
Glad you find them enjoyable. Merry Christmas!
Lots of favorite artists, especially Jan van Eyck who perfected the newly introduced oil painting technique. I am very partial to the Netherlandish artists of the 15th c.
#35 Jean Hey
#38 Jan van Eyck
#44 de Velde
And surprised you missed this one - by an excellent and often-overlooked modern American artist - Henry Ossawa Turner.
Thank you, Alba. We are your students....
That stems from my editorial decision not to interfere with the Holy Spirit. I could post only those works I deem not to be "dreadful", but that would risk omitting a work that the Spirit might use to bless someone. So unless they really are off-putting, generally they get included.
And surprised you missed this one
This is Part 2 of the Annunciation. Yesterday, several of us fell all over ourselves about that Tanner.
Copied from brief (very brief) research:
Hans Memling was one of the most prominent and productive Netherlandish artists of the later fifteenth century. Drawing from a variety of sources including Rogier van der Weyden, Robert Campin, and Jan van Eyck, Memling formed part of the second generation of Northern Renaissance painters (also known as the Flemish Primitives)...
Btw Dan - have your ever looked closely at Van Eyck's "Arnolfini Portait"? Man, that thing has layers upon layers upon layers - Jan was an amazing painter!
I Like Mary's expression in Janssens' #58, and Copping's #61...they seem more realistic (and less idealistic)...
& #76?...Artemisia became a heroine to me from your previous threads. She was "the man"
:))
I like #61 by Harrold Copping.
Joining your thread.
I have, but now of course, thanks to your Christmas-goosing, John, I will revisit it.
& #76?...Artemisia became a heroine to me from your previous threads. She was "the man"
She absolutely was a heroine, even as was Mary. Inasmuch as this thread was all about the Father's message to his daughter Mary, I thought it fitting to finish it with father and daughter, Orazio and Artemisia.
[As a personal aside, John, it was your comment several months ago, to the effect that you miss my old threads, which the Holy Spirit used to spark in me a renewed desire to begin posting them again, even if on a limited seasonal basis. I was burned out after 1,000 posts, and I've had health issues, but for now at least He wants these. Thanks!]
I like it, too: it’s dramatic, up-close-and-personal.
And she ain’t sitting in some sort of palace.
Thank you, Pat. There’s ALWAYS room for you in this inn.
I get the feeling of a photograph from Copping’s, as though we’re viewing the actual event.
I am not much of an art aficionado but I have always appreciated works that look realistic. None of this “modern” stuff with strange colors and shapes.
To each his own. I try to include an array of styles and genres to offer a wide assortment, so that everyone can find their favorite.
My **thanks** for the fine art!
May you have a blessed Holiday Season.
Glad you enjoyed it. We’re here every day.
Merry Christmas!
Dan
