I attended the Feeding-Our-Future trial from opening statements on Monday through adjournment for the weekend yesterday at noon. This is the second of the cases to come to trial. The indictment charged a total of 70 defendants with fraud, but this trial features the all-stars: ringleader Aimee Bock, founder and executive director of Feeding Our Future, and Salim Said, co-owner of two grossly fraudulent sites, Safari-Restaurant (just off Lake Street in Minneapolis) and ASA-Limited (small storefront at a Maplewood strip mall). Two of the co-defendants in this case pleaded guilty on January 28. [snip] By October 2020, Safari claimed to...

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the new U.S. health secretary, has promised to address an epidemic of chronic illness with President Donald Trump's backing, but his broad agenda from making food healthier to studying vaccines may clash with government spending cuts. Trump on Thursday ordered the creation of a 'Make America Healthy Again' Commission made up of Kennedy and other secretaries to look at everything from the high rates of autism and asthma in children to how much medicine is being prescribed to them for ADHD or other conditions. He also asked for health insurance coverage expansion and a report in...

I always expected the first few weeks of President Trump’s second term to be bad. But I did not expect to watch Trump and Elon Musk take a flame-thrower to the American government while congressional Democrats engage in the political equivalent of ASMR videos. It’s truly baffling. Trump has ignored dozens of laws in his quest to purge the federal government of supposedly disloyal employees and create an all-powerful presidency. Musk, his multi-billionaire sidekick, has been allowed to turn literal teenagers loose on every aspect of the federal government, with a mandate to do … well, no one really knows...

The Ford F-150 pickup truck is no longer America's top selling vehicle according to a new Forbes report citing data from automotive data and analysis from JATO Dynamics. After 40 years at the top of the list, Forbes states data from JATO Dynamics shows the Toyota RAV 4 is the new top-selling vehicle in the United States. Collectively, Americans now owe a record $1.21 trillion on their credit cards, according to a new quarterly report on household debt from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Credit card balances jumped by $45 billion in the fourth quarter of 2024, driven in part by holiday spending, and are now 7.3% higher than a year ago. At the same time, credit card delinquency rates “remained elevated,” the New York Fed researchers found — with 7.18% of balances transitioning to delinquency over the last year. That uptick could indicate “borrowers are having some difficulty repaying,” the researchers said on a...

Check me: I am using Google on a Chrome web Browser. No special or unusual search criteria attempted, simply tried to find the link to the government's DOGE web site. Google is listing hundreds of distractions, of columns and website discussing - but mostly criticizing and cursing Trump's DOGE process. (And quite a few trying to get me to click on Dodge truck and car links). But. The basic official DOGE contact website? Invisible on the first four pages of search results. My intent is to submit a recommendation that Trump specifically audit the IRS database for duplicate SSN/EIN numbers...

Sen. Richard Blumenthal is calling for a response from the U.S. State Department after reports surfaced about $400 million worth of contracts for armored vehicles produced by Tesla. In a letter sent to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and obtained by CBS News, Blumenthal, D-Conn., demanded to know why the department was entertaining the idea, given the possible conflict of interest concerning Tesla owner Elon Musk's dual role in President Donald Trump's administration. "Mr. Musk's dual roles pose conflicts of interest so obvious that they hardly require explanation," Blumenthal wrote. "The State Department's intent to purchase armored Cybertrucks suggests the...

President Trump said after meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday that India will increase its purchases of American oil and military hardware, culminating in India’s purchase of the advanced F-35 fighter jet. “We’ll be increasing military sales to India by many billions of dollars. We’re also paving the way to ultimately provide India with the F-35 stealth fighters,” Trump said at a joint press conference with Modi. Trump also said the U.S. will become “a leading supplier of oil and gas to India” under a new agreement that will help reduce America’s trade deficit with India. The...

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said Thursday on CNN’s “OutFront” that Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is illegal and unconstitutional. Host Erin Burnett said, “A group of 14 states tonight just filing a new lawsuit against DOGE, arguing that Elon Musk’s ascent to power in the Trump White House is unconstitutional.” Nessel said, “It’s a clear violation of The Appointments Clause, right? You know, the United States Constitution, it grants the President of the United States the ability with advice and consent of the Senate, to appoint cabinet secretaries and directors over particular agencies. But Elon Musk in...

Two Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials have been removed over their lackluster response to President Donald Trump’s edict for mass deportations of illegal aliens. Russel Hott and Peter Berg were demoted from their top spots in ICE enforcement and reassigned, the New York Post reported. Trump vowed to deport millions of illegal aliens, especially those with criminal records, as quickly as possible. The president has leaned heavily on ICE to do its job of conducting arrests, raids, and deportations. Unfortunately, Hott and Berg were not up to the task and failed to keep up with the rapid pace that...

Judge Joe Brown reveals the origins and foundations of current legal attitudes concerning property, revealing that the basic concepts have roots that extend back to the days of Absolutism. As one who always carried the notion that our legal system grew out of the enlightenment and the writings of John Locke, I find his commentary startling and now wonder how much I need to readjust my layman's prior conception of the law.
