Donald Trump was elected to a second term on a promise to exact his “retribution.” So it’s no wonder that federal investigators and others who worked with Special Counsel Jack Smith’s office are taking the president-elect at his word. According to two sources with knowledge of the matter and a former Justice Department official, several attorneys and staffers who were on the special counsel’s Justice Department team, or had done work for its criminal investigations into Trump, have already sought legal counsel or retained personal lawyers — in case the former and now future president and his incoming administration follow...

The United States saw an 18.1% increase in homelessness this year, a dramatic rise driven mostly by a lack of affordable housing as well as devastating natural disasters and a surge of migrants in several parts of the country, federal officials said Friday. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development said federally required tallies taken across the country in January found that more than 770,000 people were counted as homeless — a number that misses some people and does not include those staying with friends or family because they do not have a place of their own. That increase...

Two Democrat lawyers called for Congress to block President-elect Donald Trump from taking office in an op-ed published by the Hill on Thursday, prompting disbelief and ridicule from Republicans. In the piece titled “Congress has the power to block Trump from taking office, but lawmakers must act now,” lawyers Evan A. Davis and David M. Schulte argued that the Constitution says an insurrectionist is ineligible to be president and “the evidence of Donald Trump’s engaging in such insurrection is overwhelming.” They argued that the “matter has been decided in three separate forums” — one of which they said was the...

A multi-day firestorm has erupted over comments made by two incoming advisers to President-elect Donald Trump about H-1B temporary worker visas, a carve-out for high-skilled workers that some in MAGA world say are taking American jobs. The fight began brewing on X ahead of Christmas after Trump named venture capitalist Sriram Krishnan to a top AI policy post, triggering a racially charged backlash that surfaced Krishnan’s comments advocating for green cards for skilled workers.

Days after a huge section of the Santa Cruz wharf collapsed into the ocean, closing the wharf indefinitely, engineers are now on the scene inspecting the structural integrity of the wharf to determine whether it’s safe to reopen. "We are undertaking a very thorough analysis of the structural stability of the entire wharf from end to end and from right to left," Santa Cruz mayor Fred Keeley said. The wharf was shut down immediately following Monday’s incident. Seventeen stores and restaurants have shut down, leaving businesses and employees wondering when they can reopen. "They're just wondering when they can get...

It’s official: we now have perhaps the worst excuse from liberal media for Vice President Kamala Harris’s resounding defeat to Donald Trump. Since the election, Democratic Party operatives, liberal intellectuals and cable news hosts have served up a slew of excuses for the November disaster, everything from hate-fueled racism to plain old sexism. But Salon writer Amanda Marcotte has the worst excuse of them all: Kamala got shellacked because of Q-Anon-adjacent conspiracy theories. Marcotte writes that Americans who voted for Trump are addicted to conspiracy theories on social media, whereas the average Harris voter is someone who lives grounded in...

They call Florida "the Sunshine State," but next time you visit you should maybe be nervous if the sunshine feels, well, a bit too warm: A Florida company is giving new meaning to the popular 'reduce, reuse, and recycle.' Specifically, it wants to reuse the byproduct produced during phosphate mining to build roads. There's only one problem: It's radioactive. Now, generally, if someone gives me the option to drive on a radioactive roadway, my response is pretty quick: PASS......... But apparently the EPA felt differently! Earlier this week, the Environmental Protection Agency approved the request of Mosaic, the largest phosphate...

‘The Briton... should cheerfully acquiesce in the decree of Destiny, and stand in betimes with the conquering American.” So said William Thomas Stead, the prominent Victorian newspaperman and strident reformer. Stead looked at Britain’s colonial apotheosis with apprehension, understanding that the growth of new great powers meant “we can never again be the first”. As his countrymen grew fat and complacent on the spoils of imperial decadence, Stead saw clearly that the only avoidance of incipient decline would come by uniting our fortunes with those who had passed us in the great race. He was not alone in believing that...

The attempt to pass a monster Continuing Resolution under the guise of averting a government shutdown was narrowly averted this week. The 1,500 page piece of legislation was crammed with dubious increases in spending like pay raises for every member of Congress and over-priced federal construction projects. I guess raising each others' salary and building excessively expensive useless infrastructure are two key policy issues that are truly bipartisan. CNN reporter Manu Raju, asked backer of the CR Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill) "do you guys deserve a pay raise?" Durbin vigorously defended the salary increase, saying "consumers weren't the only ones...

THE bizarre fiefdom of Chechnya has long been controlled by warlord and top Vladimir Putin crony Ramzan Kadyrov and his trigger-happy cosplay soldiers. Disturbed chief Kadyrov, 48, has ruled over the twisted Russian republic since 2007 with his reign now coming under fire again since the deadly Azerbaijan Airlines plane crash took place on his doorstep. The Christmas Day disaster left 38 dead after the packed passenger plane lost control and smashed into a fireball as it hit the ground. Reports have been swirling in the days since saying it was shot down by a Russian anti-aircraft missile believed to...

Six months ago, I was asked my opinion of the Silicon Valley alignment with MAGA. I said at the time I thought it would last around 18 months and finally climax with a large fracture in the political movement around 2026. I had no idea at the time, the group of technocrats would begin publicly advocating for replacing American workers before Trump took office. For the past several days I have watched Vivek Ramaswamy, David Sacks, Elon Musk and his big tech influencers debating with their followers about the importance for them to continue expanding H-1b visas for foreign tech workers....

A group of teenagers learned the hard way that crime doesn’t pay after allegedly attempting to rob a man at gunpoint in Houston, Texas. The incident, which unfolded early Thursday morning, left three of the teens hospitalized after the would-be victim turned the tables, using his own firearm to defend himself. According to Major J. Suarez of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, four juveniles between the ages of 12 and 14 approached the man while he was walking in the 700 block of Oak Village Drive. Armed with what appeared to be guns, the teens allegedly attempted to rob him....

Donald Trump’s re-election has been hailed by some as the nail in the coffin for ‘wokeness’, a movement now rejected by both the left and the right. But how did it fall so far out of favour? When Donald Trump launched his 2024 presidential campaign, he centred his platform on a promise to end “wokeness”. In his campaign video, “Agenda47: President Trump’s Ten Principles for Great Schools Leading to Great Jobs”, the now president-elect declared schools a key battleground to be reclaimed from the left, pledging to ban lessons on gender identity and structural racism in classrooms. Before his election...

Russia’s aviation chief said Friday that a Ukrainian drone attack was under way in the region of Chechnya at the time an Azerbaijani airliner attempted to land before diverting to Kazakhstan and crashing there earlier this week... Yadrov, the Russian aviation chief, said that as the plane was preparing to land in Grozny in deep fog, Ukrainian drones were targeting Grozny, prompting authorities to close the area for air traffic.
