From the left: Progressive Moment Is Done “The progressive moment is well and truly over,” argues the Liberal Patriot’s Ruy Teixeira — because many of its ideas “were pretty terrible and most voters, outside the precincts of the progressive left itself, were never very interested in them.” For example, “loosening restrictions on illegal immigration was a terrible idea and voters hate it.” So too with “promoting lax law enforcement and tolerance of social disorder,” “insisting that everyone should look at all issues through the lens of identity politics” and “telling people fossil fuels are evil and they must stop using...

The Israel Defense Forces blew up a 1.2 mile-long Hezbollah tunnel filled with weapons and supplies near the border, with the blast so powerful that it triggered earthquake alarms on Saturday. The IDF said the tunnel was just one of several located in southern Lebanon that was being prepped for Hezbollah’s elite Radwan forces to one day invade Israel in an attack similar to the Oct. 7 massacre. Inside the tunnels, Israeli troops found AK-47 rifles, explosives, rocket launchers, sniper rifles and anti-tank guided missiles and launchers. The soldiers also found a massive stash of food, including canned goods, chocolates...

Michelle Obama stood before a crowd at an event center in Kalamazoo on the first day of early voting in Michigan and confessed she was frustrated — and a “little angry” — at some of the things she’s heard about why people are holding back on support for Vice President Harris. Speaking directly to the gender divide that polls show is a feature of this presidential campaign, Obama railed against “the lie that we do not know who Kamala is or what she stands for,” saying too many voters are shrugging off former President Donald Trump’s character and his track...

Dr. Phil McGraw appeared at Donald Trump‘s Madison Square Garden rally, telling the crowd that the former president was “tough as an old Army boot” and pushing back on the idea that he is a bully. McGraw had interviewed Trump earlier this year for his network Merit Street Media, when the former daytime host said that he doesn’t endorse candidates but sided with the former president’s claims that his prosecutions were rigged. At today’s rally, McGraw said that he was “not here just to stand up for Donald J. Trump. Lord knows, he doesn’t need me to stand up for...

As the presidential election reaches its final days, Donald Trump maintains a wide lead over Kamala Harris on the key issues of the economy and inflation. Efforts by Harris and Democrats to cut into Trump’s advantage on the economy have largely failed, new polling from ABC News and Ipsos indicates. Forty-five percent of registered voters say they trust Trump more on the economy, including 33 percent who say they strongly trust Trump more. Just 37 percent say they trust Harris more, with only 21 percent saying they strongly trust Harris.

At least she ate well. An Idaho woman was caught stealing over $170,000 from her employer — and blew most of it ordering food from delivery apps. Charlene Smith, formerly an office manager for a now-defunct tractor supply company out of Nampa, was caught embezzling the six-figure sum from 2021 to 2022 before the company closed its doors around 2023, the Idaho Tax Commission found.

Delta Air Lines on Friday filed a lawsuit against CrowdStrike in Georgia, accusing the security software vendor of breach of contract and negligence after an outage in July that brought down millions of computers and prompted 7,000 flight cancelations. Other airlines recovered more quickly than Atlanta-based Delta, which said the incident reduced revenue by $380 million and brought $170 million in costs. The flawed software update affected computers running Microsoft’s Windows operating system. Days after the outage, Delta hired David Boies of law firm Boies Schiller Flexner to seek damages from CrowdStrike and Microsoft. Delta asked for damages to cover...

The Democratic Party needs to get competitive with Republicans in battleground North Carolina to turn out more voters before Election Day, says a former political consultant from the Tar Heel State. Thomas Mills is publisher and founder of PoliticsNC, a website described as "Analysis, commentary, and opinion of North Carolina and national politics from the perspective of a center-left, 30-year veteran of the campaign battlefield." Mills, who worked on the direct mail team for the Democratic National Committee in 2004, identified two problems that Democrats need to address, quickly, to compete in the state: early voting and low African American...

It’s the ultimate paradox: New Mexico may be the richest poor state in the nation. Our state is blessed with incredible natural resources, particularly oil and natural gas, yet it suffers from some of the highest poverty rates. While the state’s government enjoys record-high revenues, its families aren’t necessarily seeing the same benefits. That’s why it’s important to remember this election will be pivotal in determining whether this imbalance will be corrected or exacerbated. State government coffers continue the trend of overflowing as they have for years. In 2019, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s first year in office, New Mexico’s budget...

[Catholic Caucus] Meeting the pope as my true self: A transgender man's encounter with Pope FrancisOne of my earliest memories regarding my gender is an experience I had at day care, where all the little girls were given pink blankets at nap time and all the little boys were given blue blankets. As a child in the early '90s, I didn't know anything about LGBTQ identities, but I knew that it didn't feel right when they handed me a pink blanket. Even then, I knew I belonged on "the blue side," and asking for a blue blanket was the only...
