~ Hall of Heroes ~ Robert Martin Patterson Info from here. | | Robert Martin Patterson (born April 16, 1948) is a retired United States Army soldier and a recipient of the United States military's highest decoration?he Medal of Honor?or his actions in the Vietnam War. | Patterson joined the Army from Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1966, and by May 6, 1968, was serving as a specialist four in Troop B, 2nd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment. During a firefight on that day, near La Chu in the Republic of Vietnam, Patterson single-handedly destroyed a series of enemy bunkers. For his actions during the battle, he was awarded the Medal of Honor and promoted to sergeant. In the mid 1970's, Patterson, by then a staff sergeant, served as a Basic Training drill sergeant at Fort Bliss, Texas. Patterson reached the Army's highest enlisted rank, Command Sergeant Major, before retiring. Patterson currently resides in Pensacola, Florida, having moved there in 2010. | Sergeant Patterson's official Medal of Honor citation reads: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. Sgt. Patterson (then Sp4c.) distinguished himself while serving as a fire team leader of the 3d Platoon, Troop B, during an assault against a North Vietnamese Army battalion which was entrenched in a heavily fortified position. When the leading squad of the 3d Platoon was pinned down by heavy interlocking automatic weapon and rocket propelled grenade fire from 2 enemy bunkers, Sgt. Patterson and the 2 other members of his assault team moved forward under a hail of enemy fire to destroy the bunkers with grenade and machine gun fire. Observing that his comrades were being fired on from a third enemy bunker covered by enemy gunners in 1-man spider holes, Sgt. Patterson, with complete disregard for his safety and ignoring the warning of his comrades that he was moving into a bunker complex, assaulted and destroyed the position. Although exposed to intensive small arm and grenade fire from the bunkers and their mutually supporting emplacements. Sgt. Patterson continued his assault upon the bunkers which were impeding the advance of his unit. Sgt. Patterson singlehandedly destroyed by rifle and grenade fire 5 enemy bunkers, killed 8 enemy soldiers and captured 7 weapons. His dauntless courage and heroism inspired his platoon to resume the attack and to penetrate the enemy defensive position. Sgt. Patterson's action at the risk of his life has reflected great credit upon himself, his unit, and the U.S. Army.

Good evening, Pro...a tad late as my code kept getting eaten. I can already see some I didn’t catch. *sigh*
It’s getting chilly here, and frost on the pumpkin time.

October 28
Getting Rid of Baggage
Esau ran to meet Jacob and embraced him.
Genesis 33:4In college, I studied William Shakespeare’s writing for a semester. The class required a giant textbook containing everything Shakespeare had ever written. The book weighed several pounds, and I had to carry it for hours at a time. Lugging that weight around caused my back to hurt, and it eventually broke a metal fastener on my bookbag!
Some things are just too heavy for us to carry. Emotional baggage from past hurt, for example, can weigh us down with bitterness and hatred. But God wants us to have freedom through forgiving people and, when possible, reconciling with them (Colossians 3:13). The deeper the pain, the longer this may take. That’s okay. It took many years for Esau to forgive Jacob for stealing his birthright and blessing (Genesis 27:36).
When the two finally reunited, Esau graciously forgave his brother and even “embraced him” (33:4). Not a word was exchanged before they both burst into tears. Over time, Esau had let go of the anger that made him consider murder (27:41). And all those years gave Jacob the chance to see the magnitude of how he’d harmed his brother. He was humble and respectful throughout the reunion (33:8-11).
In the end, both brothers came to the place where neither required anything from the other (vv. 9, 15). It was enough to forgive and be forgiven and walk away free from the heavy baggage of the past. Reflect & Pray
What types of offenses are hardest for you to forgive? How does forgiving others reflect your relationship with your heavenly Father?
Dear God, please set me free from bitterness and anger.

Hi Kathy, we've had a first freeze here too but October's weather was very nice mostly.
I haven't ever got any trick or treaters here where I live the past 10 years, more candy for me, LOL.

Hey there, radu!
No! I guess I didn’t, because I was not happy when that alarm went off. But I did get a very good, though short, nap this afternoon, so I’m all good.
How did your day go? Still pretty weather there?

Hey there, Kathy.
No, the air is worse than ever. The mountains are my “gauge” and I could barely see them today. Just nasty out there.
Yes, I have four more days of working at the tent during early voting. Ours ends Thursday. I’ll be heading out shortly to get ready for bed.
Bummer you couldn’t get in to vote today. But I guess it shows the people there are energized like they are across the country.

Stayed up too late watching shows again. LOL At least you managed to slip in a nap.
It was cloudy most of the day but finally cleared up just as I got ready to mow. I was glad for the sun, though, because it was a little cool today.
And that reminds me - - I need to go out to see if I can get Champ to start so I can put it back in the garage. Darn mower wouldn’t start after I finished blowing all the grass off of it and me. We were both Chia Pets. LOL
Guess I’d better head out to do that and start getting ready for bed. Early day tomorrow.
Have a good rest of the night. Catch ya tomorrow.

Just trying to buckle down now and get working. My heart is not in it today...LOL! I’m mentally drifting from thing to thing.
Reading a little of the Madison Square Garden Trump thread. Work will still be there tomorrow. d:o)
