Before they were known as the “Lost Battalion,” the 1st Battalion was a part of the 36th Infantry Division fighting in Europe during World War II. After a bungled strategic decision sent them deep into German territory in Southern France, the Battalion was surrounded. For six days, the 275 soldiers remained trapped with dwindling air-dropped supplies as the Germans threatened to wipe them out and repelled repeated rescue attempts on the ground. Germany's leader himself is said to have taken a personal interest in seeing the Battalion completely destroyed. In a last ditch effort, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team was...

What does the former president mean when he uses this phrase, which has drive the left crazy? Richard Nixon was castigated for his list of enemies prior to the Watergate scandal during his presidency. Recently, and differently, Donald Trump, in his typically exaggerated and dramatic style, confidently condemned “enemies within” America. His liberal elite media critics have reflexively condemned him for fascist or reactionary rhetoric and tactics over the term “enemies.” What political “enemies within” might there actually be in America today? 1. Enemies among Political Bureaucrat “Public Servants”The Mueller investigation, the Russia Hoax perpetrators, the two failed impeachment processes...

If you watched any of Donald Trump’s recent rally in Butler, Pa., you probably noticed Elon Musk beside him — jumping, jiving, arms raised, belly bared — and wondered what in the name of Tesla the chronically overstimulated gazillionaire was doing. Impromptu aerobics? A cheerleading audition? Charades? If only. Musk, I fear, was previewing a second Trump administration — in which Trump would embrace and embolden a crew of self-impressed eccentrics and ideological outliers who are happy, even eager, to make confounding and fawning spectacles of themselves. Consider Musk their spirit animal. Multiply him by about two dozen and you...

Explanation: A mere seven hundred light years from Earth toward the constellation Aquarius, a star is dying. The once sun-like star's last few thousand years have produced the Helix Nebula. Also known as NGC 7293, the cosmic Helix is a well studied and nearby example of a Planetary Nebula, typical of this final phase of stellar evolution. Combining narrow band data from emission lines of hydrogen atoms in red and oxygen atoms in blue-green hues, this deep image shows tantalizing details of the Helix, including its bright inner region about 3 light-years across. The white dot at the Helix's center...

As Vice President Kamala Harris scrambles for votes as the 2024 election edges closer, she managed to secure an endorsement from frontman Insane Clown Posse (ICP), Violent J. How will the Trump campaign ever recover? Violent J expressed his backing for the Vice President during an appearance on The Daily Show. Red Voice Media reported that the segment, hosted by comedian Troy Iwata, explored a lighthearted idea: Juggalos, the passionate fans of ICP, could become a new voting bloc in swing states like Ohio. As most Juggalos voiced little interest in politics, Violent J’s endorsement of Harris stood out. “I...

Vice President Kamala Harris is “extremely vulnerable” to “crazy attacks” from Republicans, former President Bill Clinton said Wednesday in Phoenix, Arizona. Clinton’s remark underscores a lot of angst among Democrats about early voting data in Arizona. The data suggests Harris is performing poorly among demographics that Democrats rely upon, Breitbart News’s Matt Boyle explained Wednesday. Former President Donald Trump has been encouraging voters to vote early and touting his plan to fix the economy and secure the southern border, the top issues in the Grand Canyon State, according to polls.

Newly revealed correspondence indicates that a Boeing senior official counseled that the company could answer a pilot’s safety questions, but it did not.The questions came in the form of an email on Dec. 1, 2018, to Boeing from the chief pilot at Ethiopian Airlines. They were detailed and filled with aviation jargon. One of them was 452 words. But in essence the pilot was asking for direction. If we see a series of warnings on the new 737 Max, he posed, what do we do? What ensued was an email conversation among a number of Boeing senior officials about whether...

The vice president’s tack to the right, support for Israel in the Gaza war and incremental policy proposals have alienated progressives and raised worries about waning liberal energy. As Vice President Kamala Harris makes a broad play to the political center, some Democrats worry that she is going too far in her bid to win over moderates who are skeptical of former President Donald J. Trump. In private — and increasingly in public as Election Day fast approaches — they say she risks chilling Democratic enthusiasm by alienating progressives and working-class voters. In making her closing argument this month, Ms. Harris...

After Florida’s attorney general told the federal government in a letter last month that she was “surprised” by a move to sideline a state probe of the second suspected attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, the Sunshine State has filed a lawsuit against U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland to “vindicate” its “sovereign interest” in separately investigating Ryan Routh as ordered by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R). The lawsuit, filed by AG Ashley Moody (R) in Fort Pierce but this time not assigned to U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, claims that the feds are violating the Tenth Amendment of the Constitution...

After all the “joy” of summer, Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign has reeled in recent weeks, with her slight lead in the polls melting away as Donald Trump’s fortunes have considerably revived. With less than a fortnight to go before the November 5 election, most analysts now estimate that Trump has a greater than 50 per cent chance of returning to the presidency. According to RealClear Politics, a news organisation that compiles daily polling averages, Trump currently leads Harris in all seven “swing states”, where neither Democrats nor Republicans command a reliable majority, with some of his leads rising above the...

Anti-Trumpers like me see the presidential election as a reckoning for American democracy. For many Donald Trump supporters, it is a simple matter of dollars and cents. Late this summer, I left my home in New York City to talk to dozens of working-class people in the South, the Midwest and the West. I had no agenda except to hear what they were saying and try to understand the world from their point of view. I interviewed hairdressers and retired sawmill workers, bakers, truck drivers, laundromat managers, pit barbecue cooks, casino card dealers and even a former professional rodeo rider....

“The Price of Power,” by Michael Tackett, reveals a legislator for whom political survival has been a top priority — even when it means supporting a “sleazeball” for the presidency. For months after the Jan. 6, 2021, rampage at the Capitol, the damaged window of Mitch McConnell’s office was left unrepaired, a graphic reminder of the moment when one of rioters bashed the fortified glass with a flagpole. McConnell, the Kentucky Republican who was the Senate majority leader at the time, professed his disgust at what happened, calling it “further evidence of Donald Trump’s complete unfitness for office.” According to “The...
