Vice President Kamala Harris promised Friday that she would build 3 million new homes in four years if she were elected, but she and President Joe Biden barely managed to build eight EV charging stations in two-and-a-half years. Harris said at a rally in Raleigh, North Carolina: There’s a serious housing shortage in many places. It’s too difficult to build and it’s driving prices up. As president, I will work in partnership with industry to build the housing. We need both to rent and to buy. We will take down barriers and cut red tape including at the state and...

Amajority of likely California voters support stiffer penalties for crimes involving theft and fentanyl, according to a new UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll co-sponsored by The Times. The results of the poll released Friday showed that 56% of Californians would support Proposition 36, an initiative on the November ballot that would impose stricter sentences for repetitive theft and offenses involving the deadly drug fentanyl. The proposition has been at the center of a battle in the state Capitol this year as Republicans and law enforcement advocates call for the undoing of Democratic reform policies that downgraded some felonies...

Our world-first trial shows improving diet and doing more physical activity can be as effective as therapy with a psychologist for treating low-grade depression. Our trial targeted people with elevated distress, meaning at least mild depression but not necessarily a diagnosed mental disorder. Typical symptoms included feeling down, hopeless, irritable or tearful. We partnered with our local mental health service to recruit 182 adults and provided group-based sessions on Zoom. All participants took part in up to six sessions over eight weeks, facilitated by health professionals. Half were randomly assigned to participate in a program co-facilitated by an accredited practicing...

Millions of women and girls across the country can breathe a sigh of relief as the Biden regime was blocked from implementing its radical changes to Title IX in several states. ... in April that the Regime proudly announced that women would be forced to allow men in their locker rooms and bathrooms with a 1577-page Title IX ruling. Moreover, they would be forced to accept men on their sports teams. ... the U.S. Supreme Court on Friday smacked down a request from the Regime to implement the rule in 10 states after being blocked from doing so by lower...

Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disease caused by the loss of neurons that produce dopamine, a neurotransmitter involved in motor control and cognitive function. As the global population ages, the number of Parkinson's disease patients is rapidly increasing. Parkinson's disease is induced by neuronal damage due to excessive production of reactive oxygen species. Suppression of reactive oxygen species generation is essential because it is fatal to dopaminergic neurons that manage dopamine neurotransmitters. Currently, only symptomatic treatment is available, so the development of treatment regimens and prevention methods is necessary. Associate Professor Akiko Kojima-Yuasa led a research group that has verified...

Fish oil supplements are a multi-billion dollar industry in the U.S. and abroad, with about 2 out of every 25 people popping the popular omega-3 pills. And a new study might encourage a new population to start looking into the supplements as well: people with a genetic predisposition to high cholesterol. Using genetic data from more than 441,000 participants, the researchers calculated a score to predict the genetic likelihood of high levels of total cholesterol, high LDL cholesterol (which is often referred to as "bad" cholesterol), triglycerides and HDL cholesterol (or "good" cholesterol). "Recent advances in genetic studies have allowed...

CNN — The Supreme Court on Friday turned down a request from the Biden administration to enforce parts of a new federal rule meant to protect LGBTQ+ and pregnant students from discrimination in 10 states where the rule was put on hold by federal judges. The court announced its decision in an unsigned order that drew a partial dissent from the court’s three liberals and conservative Justice Neil Gorsuch. The Supreme Court’s order is the latest blow to the Biden administration on the issue, which has suffered a series of setbacks with federal courts blocking a rule that was intended...

My dear friends, once America's restraint is totally and fully removed from this present evil world, what is to stop the global lawless march to doomsday and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse's ride (2 Thess. 2:2-8, Rev. 6-19)! My friends, a very sobering NOTHING! That is right, NOTHING! We are at the bottom of the super accelerating vortex in world's history, where there is no more time, room and remedies to fix our nation and world's horrific EXPONENTIAL ills. I totally know to point out such realities makes me a villain to many and a spiritual liberator to very...

PIERRE, S.D. (KELO) — Many of the 10 Democratic candidates who withdrew from election races for the South Dakota Legislature haven’t been replaced. One result is that in one of those spots — the District 20 counties of Davison, Jerauld, Miner and Sanborn — the two House seats will be won by default by two new Republicans, Jeff Bathke of Mitchell and Kaley Nolz of Mitchell.

Doctors recommend making fruits and vegetables a foundational part of the treatment of patients with hypertension. Diets high in fruits and vegetables are found to lower blood pressure, reduce cardiovascular risk, and improve kidney health due to their base-producing effects. The Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables reduces blood pressure and is the recommended first-line treatment for primary hypertension. Nevertheless, this diet is under-prescribed, and when prescribed is under-implemented despite supportive epidemiological data. The DASH diet and others generally high in fruits and vegetables are associated with lower blood pressure, lower risk...

Linda Lynch, a KTLA viewer in the Antelope Valley, was shocked to see that her electric bill skyrocketed to $900 this month, hundreds MORE than usual. Linda writes that she can barely afford food, never mind electricity. We should point out that the Antelope Valley in Southern California saw excessive heat warnings issued for stretches of days this month. The warnings are issued when heat is forecast to be extreme and often come with an advisory to keep cool and only go out if necessary. And Linda wasn’t the ONLY one who emailed. Carla Chang writes, “Hello! Please look into...

In a study, scientists found that decreasing folate intake can support healthier metabolisms in aging animal models, challenging the conventional belief that high folate consumption universally benefits health. Folate, a B vitamin essential for cell growth and development, is widely recognized for its role in preventing birth defects. It's found naturally in foods like leafy greens, and it is typically added to refined grains. By limiting folate in animal models, the researchers saw a decrease in processes related to growth and building new cells, but enhanced metabolic flexibility, which Polymenis said could lead to healthier aging. "Optimal folate intake may...

Patients with advanced kidney cancer are routinely given immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) as first-line treatment. The CONTACT-03, phase 3 clinical trial tested the effects of giving ICIs again, as part of a standard second-line therapy. It is the first trial of its kind to compare a standard therapy alone (cabozantinib) to standard therapy plus an ICI (atezolizumab plus cabozantinib) in solid tumors that have progressed after first-line therapy with an ICI. Patients taking atezolizumab plus cabozantinib did not experience longer progression free survival or overall survival compared with those taking cabozantinib alone. An examination of subgroups of patients based on...

Host and actor Peter Marshall has died aged 98 from kidney failure. The former Hollywood Squares host passed away Thursday at his home in the Encino neighborhood of Los Angeles, publicist Harlan Boll said. He was the beloved game show host on more than 5,000 episodes of the iconic NBC show from 1966 to 1981. 'It was the easiest thing I've ever done in show business,' Marshall said in a 2010 interview for the Archive of American Television. 'I walked in, said `Hello stars,' I read questions and laughed. And it paid very well.' Hollywood Squares would become an American...

President Trump is going for the jugular in his race against Kamala Harris, calling in the person who played a crucial role in ruining her 2020 campaign. The New York Times reported Friday that Trump has brought in former Hawaii Democrat Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard as he begins preparation for his debate showdown with Harris next month in Philadelphia. As the Times notes, Gabbard will provide valuable brings some critical qualities as a debate advisor to Trump. For example, she has policy experience as a former member of Congress and is a female when Trump is facing his second woman as...

Vice President Kamala Harris’s speech Friday was an opportunity to get specific with voters about how a Harris presidency would manage an economy that many feel is not working well for them. Unfortunately, instead of delivering a substantial plan, she squandered the moment on populist gimmicks. Americans are clearly still anxious and angry about the high cost of groceries, housing and even $5.29 Big Macs. While the inflation rate has cooled substantially since the 2022 peak, an ostensible Biden-Harris administration accomplishment, prices remain elevated relative to the Trump years. So it’s a real political issue for Ms. Harris. One way...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The U.S. Supreme Court declined on Friday to let President Joe Biden's administration enforce a key part of a new rule protecting LGBT students from discrimination in schools and colleges based on gender identity in 10 Republican-led states that had challenged it. The justices denied the administration's request to partially lift lower court injunctions that had blocked the entirety of the rule expanding protections under Title IX, a law that bars sex discrimination in federally funded education programs, while litigation continues. The lower court decisions had prevented the U.S. Education Department from enforcing the new rule, announced in...

Both Buddhism and Stoicism emphasize self-control, ethical living, and the attainment of a passionless state. However, the Indian philosophy predated Stoicism by about 500 years. Did Buddhism influence Greek Stoicism and thought, and, if so, how did it do so a continent away? Similarities between Stoicism and Buddhism: A shared path to inner peace Practitioners of Stoicism and Buddhism deeply understand life’s impermanence and the need to overcome desires. The philosophies teach mental discipline and detachment from external circumstances as paths to inner peace. In Stoicism, “apatheia” means freedom from emotional disturbance, closely mirroring Buddhism’s “nirvana,” the liberation from suffering....
