CHICAGO (WLS) -- Concern over possible unrest during next week's Democratic National Convention has some business owners in Chicago's Loop taking precautions. Boarded up windows and doors could be seen downtown Thursday. "As we know, this city has a poor track record when it comes to protecting businesses," said Scott Shapiro, owner of Syd Jerome. The looming unknowns ahead of next week's convention are why Shapiro said he knew he had to take precautions to keep his decades-old business safe. WASHINGTON -- Four days before the Democratic National Convention opens in Chicago, the party's proposed platform names the wrong candidate for president. The Democratic platform — essentially a document outlining goals and policy positions the party supports — has not been updated since a draft was released July 13, eight days before President Joe Biden abandoned his reelection bid and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. The committee in charge of compiling the platform worked for more than a year to draft it, including leaving room for key voices to comment and make changes earlier this summer. But the language set...

The body of Trump shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks has 'gone', a congressman revealed in a report last night accusing the FBI of a 'scorched earth' investigation. Rep. Clay Higgins, a Louisiana Republican who was appointed to Congress' bipartisan task force reviewing the assassination attempt, tried to view Crooks' body on August 5 as part of his own personal inspection. The former police captain said his request to view the body 'caused quite a stir and revealed a disturbing fact'. It was at this point that he learned that the FBI had 'released the body for cremation 10 days' after the...

As Kamala Harris accepts the Democratic nomination for president inside the United Center Aug. 22 before a room full of delegates, donors and party elites, ordinary Chicagoans will be able to join the party at Soldier Field. The Democratic National Convention is coming to Chicago Monday through Aug. 22 to rally the party behind Harris, who was catapulted to the top of the Democratic ticket after President Joe Biden exited the race. But the convention isn’t open to just anyone. The way to get in is to be a delegate or donor, have ties to the Democratic Party or volunteer....

While Belarus’s Lukashenko has commented on the cross-border attacks, Central Asian nations stay mum. Almost two years ago, a dozen Uzbek youngsters pleaded with their president to save them from the horrors of the Russian-Ukrainian war. Uzbek nationals enrolled in western Russia’s Kursk Medical University recorded a video address to Shavkat Mirziyoyev in October 2022 saying their studies had been affected by Kyiv’s shelling of nearby towns and the hostilities in the neighbouring Ukrainian region of Sumy. “Please transfer us to medical schools in Uzbekistan,” one of the students said. Uzbek diplomats pledged to assess the situation. There have been...

The exact circumstances that led to President Joe Biden's dramatic withdrawal from the 2024 election race have been the topic of frenzied conversation for weeks. Ever since Biden tweeted his digitally signed letter announcing the decision on Sunday, June 21, the line from the White House has been clear: The president was not pushed. This was his choice alone. Sympathetic insiders described a weekend of 'reflection' for the president – who had recently tested postive for COVID and was holed up in isolation with his wife Jill and a handful of trusted aides at the Biden family home in Rehoboth...

A violent pedophile who brutally raped and murdered his eight-year-old neighbor could be released from jail this fall due to a 2016 justice reform authored by Kamala Harris during her tenure as California’s Attorney General. Adrian Jerry ‘AJ’ Gonzalez, 24, was just 15 when he lured Madyson Middleton into his mother’s apartment with promises of ice cream before strangling, stabbing and raping her. The brutal killer then wrapped her body in plastic bags and threw it in a dumpster outside the Santa Cruz apartment complex where they both lived. Now, Gonzalez is set for release when he turns 25 –...

Big Apple college campuses are woefully unprepared to respond to the fresh wave of “potentially dangerous” anti-Israel protests expected when students return to the classroom this fall, CUNY cops warned. The CUNY officers, who blame a systematic dismantling of the public university system’s police forces for the lack of preparation, sounded the alarm after violent demonstrations erupted at campuses across the city in response to the Israel-Hamas war. “The university is going into this under fire – they have no idea what’s going to happen. There’s no preparation,” a CUNY officer speaking on condition of anonymity told The Post. CUNY...

"When we gave her the Presidential Medal of Freedom… It’s the equivalent of the Congressional Medal of Honor— it’s actually much better because everyone who gets the Congressional Medal, they’re soldiers. They’re either in very bad shape because they’ve been hit so many times by bullets or they’re dead. She gets it and she’s a healthy beautiful woman."
