Among the many women who claim that they’d feel safer encountering a bear in the forest than a man (because “men are scary”) is author and Guggenheim fellow Julia Phillips. Perhaps it is not men or bears that present the most danger in the forest. Not only do women initiate domestic violence against men (we just don’t report it), but they are also going on violent rampages in forests. Just look at these raving woods women who have completely lost all sense of equanimity. Yikes. It seems their electro-chemical imbalances are disrupting their brains’ normal neuro pathways. So disturbed are...

The keystone of the censorship industry’s branding operation is its claim to be is non-partisan. It doesn’t censor particular viewpoints – it censors “disinformation.” It doesn’t persecute its political opponents – it monitors “extremists.” It doesn’t interfere in elections on behalf of particular parties or candidates – it simply defends “election integrity.”Every major censorship organization makes some claim to this effect. From the Election Integrity Partnership’s website:The Election Integrity Partnership was founded in 2020 as a non-partisan coalition to empower the research community, election officials, government agencies, civil society organizations, social media platforms, and others to defend our elections against those...

Recall petitions against Representative Robin Vos are due today at the Wisconsin Elections Commission. This is the second effort by Vos opponents to recall the Republican Assembly Speaker. The first fell short of the signatures needed. If the signatures do get turned in, there are a series of deadlines, including an opportunity for Vos to challenge and for petitioners to respond. If the commission eventually finds the petitions sufficient, state law requires an election to be scheduled for the sixth Tuesday after that ruling. That would be August 6. If a primary is needed, it would be August 6 with...

Will Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan hang onto his seat? And will Gov. Greg Abbott succeed in ousting Republicans who blocked his school choice voucher plan? Those are the big questions on the eve of Tuesday’s primary runoff elections in Texas. In order to keep his speakership, Phelan first has to win his primary runoff race in his home district Tuesday against GOP challenger David Covey. "It is a real knife fight there on the coast," said Scott Braddock, editor of quorumreport.com. Former President Trump has endorsed Covey, and Attorney General Ken Paxton blasted Phelan on social media Monday, exactly...

Between 10,000 and 15,000 people were killed in one city in Sudan's West Darfur region last year in ethnic violence by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied Arab militia, according to a United Nations report seen by Reuters on Friday. In the report to the U.N. Security Council, independent U.N. sanctions monitors attributed the toll in El Geneina to intelligence sources and contrasted it with the U.N. estimate that about 12,000 people have been killed across Sudan since war erupted on April 15, 2023, between the Sudanese army and the RSF. The monitors also described as "credible" accusations...

The Rapid Support Forces, the paramilitary group that opposes the Sudanese army in Sudan’s civil war, launched an assault on the town of El Fasher, capital of North Darfur, on May 10. Hundreds of people have already been reported killed in the fighting, and our Observers fear exactions against non-Arab ethnic populations should the town fall into the hands of the RSF. The fighting has claimed more than 450 lives since May 10, according to an assessment made by Médecins sans Frontières (MSF) on May 18. The NGO also stressed that the total number of victims was probably much higher....

U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales of Texas is out to save his job Tuesday in a GOP primary runoff that has put rifts within the party on display. Gonzales, who has clashed with some of his hard-right colleagues in Washington and drawn a rebuke from the state party, is in a race against Brandon Herrera, a gun-rights YouTube creator with more than 3 million followers. Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan also faces a tough challenge that could see him ousted from his powerful seat, upending the Republican-controlled Legislature. Phelan angered conservatives for leading the 2023 impeachment of state Attorney General Ken...

Ukraine urgently needs new soldiers, but some — left uneasy by brutal fighting and intensifying conscription efforts — are desperately trying to avoid being called up. “When you see people in uniform, you panic. You start thinking someone will mobilize you now against your will,” a lawyer based in Kyiv told NBC News. He did not want his identity known, fearful, like a growing number of men across the country, of being drafted into the army... “I love my country,” he said in a phone interview earlier this month. “I donate to the Ukrainian army. But unfortunately, I am not...

Children have picked ingredients used by suppliers to two major beauty companies, the BBC can reveal. A BBC investigation into last summer's perfume supply chains found jasmine used by Lancôme and Aerin Beauty's suppliers was picked by minors. All the luxury perfume brands claim to have zero tolerance on child labour. L'Oréal, Lancôme's owner, said it was committed to respecting human rights. Estée Lauder, Aerin Beauty's owner, said it had contacted its suppliers. The jasmine used in Lancôme Idôle L'Intense - and Ikat Jasmine and Limone Di Sicilia for Aerin Beauty - comes from Egypt, which produces about half the...

Nigel Farage is having a press conference to launch the Reform Party's UK general election campaign. Here are some quotes "I happen to think that invasion was appropriate." "How can get it worse?" "The French Navy needs to stop what they're doing (in terms of escorting boats)." "A large influx of young males coming from an entirely different culture… has had frankly disastrous social affects." "I cant find a district...

“For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21). In addition to Scripture, God has given us more than adequate spiritual resources to meet suffering and death. Wall Street, the name synonymous with the American stock market and financial investing, is a place where confidence can rise and fall with great force and unpredictability, right along with the rising or sinking level of stock prices. Prices always seem to even out, but who can be certain about how they will behave in the future? The apostle Paul’s spiritual confidence was not based on the changeableness...

Former President Donald Trump privately promised donors he would adopt a hard-line stance against pro-Palestinian student demonstrators after encouraging Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end his war against Hamas. “One thing I do is, any student that protests, I throw them out of the country. You know, there are a lot of foreign students. As soon as they hear that, they’re going to behave,” Trump said during a May 14 roundtable event in New York, according to the Washington Post. Trump described the demonstrators as being part of a “radical revolution” and praised the New York Police Department for...

Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) is warning of possible retribution against some of his GOP colleagues in the House who are actively campaigning against the Texas Republican’s reelection bid. As Gonzales seeks a third term to his seat on Tuesday representing Texas’s 23rd Congressional District, the incumbent is facing a challenge from his right over his voting record to protect same-sex marriage and to implement stricter gun safety measures. Those votes attracted a crowded field of candidates looking to oust the incumbent during the March primary, forcing Gonzales into a runoff with challenger Brandon Herrera after neither candidate secured more than...

OAKLAND, Calif. - Shoppers at some Bay Area Safeway stores will no longer have the option to use self-checkout kiosks. The grocery chain confirmed to KTVU that it's getting rid of the self-checkout machines at several stores, although they wouldn't specify which ones. Safeway officials said they're removing the kiosks because of problems with theft – too many customers steal items when they go through the self-checkout. "Operational changes have been made at select stores throughout the Bay Area given the increasing amount of theft," according to Safeway's statement. "Self-checkout kiosks have been removed at a few stores. Like other...

With the closing arguments set for Tuesday in the trial of former president Donald Trump, defense counsel are in a rather curious position. There is still debate among legal experts as to the specific crime that District Attorney Alvin Bragg is alleging. Trump’s lawyers are defending a former president who is charged under a state misdemeanor which died years ago under the statute of limitations. It was then zapped back into life in the form of roughly three dozen felonies by claiming that bookkeeping violations — allegedly hiding payments to Stormy Daniels to ensure her silence about a supposed affair...
