Here’s why the case against Trump should end in ‘not guilty’
new york post ^ | 5/27/2024 | Jonathan Turley

With the closing arguments set for Tuesday in the trial of former president Donald Trump, defense counsel are in a rather curious position. There is still debate among legal experts as to the specific crime that District Attorney Alvin Bragg is alleging. Trump’s lawyers are defending a former president who is charged under a state misdemeanor which died years ago under the statute of limitations. It was then zapped back into life in the form of roughly three dozen felonies by claiming that bookkeeping violations — allegedly hiding payments to Stormy Daniels to ensure her silence about a supposed affair with Trump — were committed to hide another crime. But what is that second crime? Even liberal legal analysts admitted that they could not figure out what was being alleged in Bragg’s indictment. Now, after weeks of trial, the situation has changed little. Originally, Bragg referenced four possible crimes, though is now claiming three: a tax violation or either a state or federal campaign financing violation. The last crime is particularly controversial because Bragg has no authority to enforce federal law and the Justice Department declined any criminal charge. The Federal Election Commission (FEC) did not even find grounds for a civil fine.

Note the title says "should," not "will," end in not guilty. I think a hung jury (mistrial) is more likely than not guilty. A guilty verdict would be wrong, but is possible.

Good summary.

The dirty judge allowed the bad guys every break and shut down the good guys’ objections all the way.

It has been said by others that the jurors tend to sympathize with and bond with the judge, so resent someone like Trump’s lawyers who argue with him and disagree with the judge.

And how could we dream of the fantasy coming true that anyone on a jury in New York City isn’t a lifelong Dem and Trump hater who dabs at the venom coming down their lips?

Also the judge misled the jurors to think Trump had already violated the law (by saying misleading things to the jurors about Trump) and they had encouragement to side against Trump.

This is a stinking Leftist banana republic lawfare setup.

I just wonder if the Biden speech is already written saying “So to settle down the unrest from white supremacist Trump supporters all over the nation I have ordered the US Army to mobilize against the insurrectionists tonight.”

The Left could have gasoline bombs, sabotage and agents provocateurs to look like everyone who once voted for Trump deserves to be shot or go to prison.

I want to be wrong. I really do.

One more thing. A glimmer of hope is proof that one or more jurors monitored CNN and MSNBC style stories while promising NOT to do so during the long days before court reconvened. Proof——I don’t know the tech methods——could cause a mistrial.

>> I bet a copy of that would go for 100 bucks, easy.

Heck, I’d pay TWICE that!

The judge can give the jury instructions which will insure a guilty verdict. There have been several threads about this on FR.

I agree. As crazy as things are now, we’re in the calm before the storm.

Jonathan Turley is a brilliant lawyer and legal analyst...

Sadly, the Judge and Prosecutor in this kangaroo court are both lawyers with no scruples, no shame and no future in legal analysis. They are instead Democrat sycophants intent on achieving one thing and one thing only at any cost, even their own reputations and standing within the legal profession.

The word ‘Guilty!’ attached to Donald Trump.

Any decision brought down in this court will be thrown out and vacated by a higher court, and eventually be the Supreme Court... But that will be later.

For sure. I am waiting to see how the LORD (Whose throne is supported by the twin pillars of Justice and Righteousness) will resolve this. He HATES! injustice, and unjust judges.

Personally: I believe that President Trump will not be convicted of anything in this sham trial. Whether hung jury or “not guilty” verdict, I do not know; I am praying for the latter.

And if I am wrong about that, and he IS convicted of something, I further believe that President Trump will NOT go to jail — not even for one day. And I further believe that any false conviction will be overturned, and quickly — as in before the election.

As President Trump himself often says, we’re just going to have to see what happens.

Chin up, though. Because of the essential character of our GOD and His Son, we are more than conquerors in this (and in all things).

FRegards and blessings!

Should, should, should...hard to come to any conclusion from that,

Case dismissed would work. But apparently too late for that.

If the judge does give such instructions and the jury complies, true. I have not seen those instructions. The jury might not comply because such instructions would be unconstitutional. We will see.

Bragg will “explain” in his summation.

Good points. And it seems to me that the Trump attorneys could do something right then to stop it.

I think a hung jury (mistrial) is more likely than not guilty.

They could charge him with being the mastermind behind the Lincoln assassination the democrats will find him guilty.
