Daily Readings from the USCCBWhile still more people gathered in the crowd, Jesus said to them, “This generation is an evil generation; it seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it, except the sign of Jonah.” Luke 11:29The crowd seemed to be a mixed bunch. First, there were those who wholeheartedly believed in Jesus. The Twelve, for example, left everything behind to follow Him. His mother and various other holy women believed in Him and were His faithful followers. But within the growing crowd, it appeared that there were many who questioned Jesus and wanted some form of...

Our army passed through Jackson in two columns, the enemy retreating across Pearl River so precipitately that his pontoons, two pieces of artillery, and a number of prisoners fell into our hands. Our forces seized provisions of all kinds and swept on. Great dissatisfaction is said to exist among the Tennessee, Kentucky and Missouri regiments,...

A man’s corpse, found riddled with bullets and run over by a vehicle in Spain last week, was identified as that of Russian military pilot Maksim Kuzminov, who flew his Mi-8 helicopter to Ukraine in a dramatic defection in August, Ukrainian officials said. His killing — after a very public threat to his life last year on Russian state television — has raised questions about whether this was a Russian-ordered assassination carried out on European soil. A US non-profit that aired two ads during yesterday's Super Bowl attempting to rebrand Jesus for Gen Z is also the main funder of a designated hate group opposing abortion and LGBTIQ rights, openDemocracy can reveal. The Servant Foundation has plunged millions of dollars into its ‘He Gets Us’ ads, which paint Jesus as an “influencer” who was “cancelled” for standing up for his beliefs. The controversial adverts were shown at the Super Bowl for the second year running and have been plastered across billboards in the United States over the last year.

New York is Migrant Central — the No. 1 destination in the country for illegal border crossers — and it’s no accident. New York’s Democratic politicians benefit from the deluge. The more migrants come here, the more congressional seats and clout in the electoral college New York is able to maintain. Elon Musk spelled it out on X on Feb. 3: “Most people in America don’t know that the census is based on a simple headcount of people (including illegals) not just citizens. This shifts political power and money to states and Congressional districts with the highest number of illegals.”...

Working hard or hardly working? It’s the latter for one Connecticut city, according to a new study. WalletHub ranked Bridgeport at 111th in a study of 116 cities, according to data released on Monday. It only ranked higher than Toledo in Ohio, Newark in New Jersey, Buffalo in New York, Detroit and Burlington in Vermont. Bridgeport is the only Connecticut city included on the list. The study looked at “direct” and “indirect” factors like the average work hours, the employment rate, how many households have adults who don’t work, the number of idle youth, average commute times and volunteer hours....

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has defended a new pilot program to give migrants prepaid debit cards, saying it could save the city money. “Adams spent a large portion of his weekly media availability on Tuesday defending the program, which could grow to cost the city $53 million, saying it will save the city money and eliminate food waste,” reported WPIX New York City. Though rapper 50 Cent initially criticized the program, Eric Adams said he changed his position after the...

The Jefferson County coroner has confirmed that a 34-year-old Colorado man died this month, days after being bitten by one of his two pet Gila monsters. "I think this case highlights that any venomous animals should be respected," said Dr. Nick Brandehoff, a medical toxicologist and expert in reptile bites with the Asclepius Snakebite Foundation, who was consulted on the Lakewood Gila monster case. Gila monsters are venomous reptiles found in the southwestern United States. While their bites can be painful, they are normally not fatal to humans. Experts say that the last report of a human dying from a...

SANTA FE, N.M. (NewsNation) — Jury selection is set to begin Wednesday for Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer on the set of Alec Baldwin’s Western movie “Rust” who is facing charges of involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence in the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. This trial marks one of the most significant legal proceedings in Hollywood’s extensive film industry. Gutierrez-Reed has pleaded not guilty to the charges and maintains she’s not directly to blame for Hutchins’ death. Baldwin also has pleaded not guilty to an involuntary manslaughter charge in a separate case. In October 2021, Baldwin was rehearsing a...

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A federal appeals court must decide if Pennsylvania voters need to put accurate handwritten dates on the outside envelopes of their mail-in ballots for the votes to count, a dispute with implications for this year’s presidential contest. The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals held oral arguments in Philadelphia Tuesday over a district judge’s ruling in November that even without the proper dates, mail-in ballots should be counted if they are received in time. Ari Savitzky, a lawyer with the American Civil Liberties Union representing several voter groups, told the court that more than 10,000 ballots in...

Border security is tracking as a top issue for voters, according to the Texas Politics Project. And border protection is the top issue for the candidates running for the Republican nomination to represent the congressional district with the most border miles. District 23 covers more than 800 miles of the Texas Mexico border — including Eagle Pass, the border city that has become the frontline for Operation Lone Star. Congressman Tony Gonzales, the Republican incumbent in the race, has been accused by his four primary opponents of not being tough enough on protecting the border and being a RINO. At...
