The majority of U.S. adults are living paycheck to paycheck heading into this holiday season, a report shows. LendingClub’s latest report shows that as of October, 60 percent of adults said they are living paycheck to paycheck. Around 40 percent of consumers consider themselves to be worse off now than in 2022. Even higher earners are struggling to get by, with 42 percent of those making six figures also living check-to-check under President Joe Biden. According to a separate CNBC survey, the number of adults struggling to save between checks is up from 58 percent in March.

An Australian man's unconventional attempt to scare magpies away from his backyard using a homemade scarecrow has resulted in an unexpected turn of events. Despite its eerie resemblance to a leftover Halloween decoration, the man believes that the birds were actually flocking to his garden to worship what they perceived as a magpie deity.

President Joe Biden’s border chief is now ordering border guards not to presume the correct sex and corresponding pronouns for illegal migrants. “We just obtained [Customs and Border Patrol agency] documents directing personnel to only use woke language when encountering individuals invading the United States,” a tweet from the Oversight Project at the Heritage Foundation reads. The order from border chief Alejandro Mayorkas directs border guards to ignore the biological distinction between the two complementary sexes. Instead, officers must submit to the political claim that each person’s “gender” is more important than their biological sex and so must allow people...

The claim was that the Covid vaccines were safe and effective. Yet, the manufacturers were granted immunity from liability for any harm these vaccines may have caused. As a substitute adjudication mechanism, the government established the Countermeasures Injury Compensation Program (CICP). Thus far nearly 13,000 injury claims for damages done by the Covid vaccines have been submitted to the CICP. Only 1,800 of these claims have been assessed by the CICP: 1,728 were denied, 72 were determined to be "eligible for compensation," and six injured persons have been paid an average of $2,148 each. Inasmuch as some of the harms...

COVID is on the rise again, with a peak likely over the holiday season. Given this, health authorities in a number of Australian states have recommended people start wearing masks again. In Western Australia, masks have been made mandatory in high-risk areas of public hospitals, while they’ve similarly been reintroduced in health-care settings in other parts of the country. Hospitals and aged care facilities are definitely the first places where masks need to be reinstated during an epidemic. But authorities are differing in their recommendations currently. Calls to mask up, particularly in the wider community, have not been unanimous. So...

Moody's Investors Service has revised the rating outlook to negative for Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, and Wells Fargo, citing concerns about the U.S. government's potentially weaker capacity to support systemically important banks. Despite the negative outlook, bank stocks rallied following subdued inflation data. Novak Djokovic’s victorious return to the US Open this year was heralded as the triumph of an “ageless” athlete. His “greatness”, The Guardian reported, “has been defined by his ability to rise from difficult losses stronger than before”. But for the pharmaceutical giant Moderna, it came as something of a blow. “Djokovic Crowned Anti-vaccine Hero after US Open Win,” howled the title of an internal report. It continued: “The optics of Djokovic, whose vaccine opposition barred him from competing in the 2022 US Open, returning to and winning the Moderna-sponsored competition bolsters anti-vaccine claims that vaccines — and mandates —...

The Biden administration on Monday said it is offering another round of free at-home Covid tests to U.S. households ahead of the holiday season, when more people gather indoors and the virus typically spreads at higher levels. Starting Monday, Americans can use COVIDtests.gov to request four free tests per household. Those who have not ordered any tests this fall can now place two orders for a total of eight tests, according to the website. The administration in September allowed people to request an initial round of four free tests through the site, resuming a federal program that temporarily shut down...

comment on their decision to leave in place state court rulings affirming Chauvin’s conviction and 22 1/2-year sentence, San Diego Union-Tribune reported. In October, attorneys representing Chauvin appealed to the Supreme Court to review his case. This appeal was based on the refusal of a Minnesota trial court to change the venue of the trial and sequester the jury. Chauvin argued that holding the trial in Minneapolis violated his right to a fair trial. He argued this was due to extensive pretrial media coverage and the potential for violent protests and riots if he were found not guilty.

Speaking with MSNBC host Jen Psaki on Sunday afternoon, former Solicitor General Neal Katyal explained that a ruling by District Judge Sarah B. Wallace on Friday may have kept Donald Trump on the Colorado ballot for now but it could blow up on him at a later date. Katyal was quick to note that Judge Wallace agreed with the petitioners that the former president took part in an insurrection at the end of his term but used a narrow interpretation to say he is not in violation of the 14th Amendment. According to the legal analyst, the ruling was "the...

The UN chief issued his rallying call as the global body warned in a new report that countries' greenhouse gas-cutting pledges put Earth on track for warming far beyond key limits – possibly up to a catastrophic 2.9 degrees Celsius this century. The response must "light the fuse to an explosion of ambition in 2025," he said. "That means national plans with clear 2030 and 2035 targets, that align with 1.5 degrees, that cover the whole economy, and that plot a course for ending fossil fuels." Taking into account countries' carbon-cutting plans, the UN warned Monday that the planet is...
