Jim Skea, the new head of the UN's IPCC climate panel, said it was not helpful to imply that temperature increases of 1.5 degrees Celsius posed an existential threat to humanity. "If you constantly communicate the message that we are all doomed to extinction, then that paralyzes people and prevents them from taking the necessary steps to get a grip on climate change," he said. "The world won't end if it warms by more than 1.5 degrees," Skea told Der Spiegel. "It will however be a more dangerous world." Surpassing that mark would lead to many problems and social tensions,...

Over 600 fires have swept across Greece scorching hundreds of square miles of land and leaving thousands holidaymakers stranded. Recent extreme heat in the Mediterranean has seen temperatures top 40C, as experts blame climate change for the increasing frequency and intensity of wildfires. The majority of the fires which have ravaged Greece in recent weeks were started by "human hand", one of the country's top climate officials has said. Vassilis Kikilias told a news conference the vast majority of fires "were caused by human hands" and said they were "arsons either by criminal negligence or by intention". However, officials have...

It sounds like bad science fiction, but it is rapidly becoming reality. Some of the most powerful people on the planet think they are going to “upgrade” human beings — or at least some human beings — through genetic engineering and technological schemes such as “brain implants.” Yes, really. In fact, they are publicly touting alleged benefits, supposedly including eternal life, and even evolving into “gods.”If that all sounds crazy or even diabolical — good, it should, because it is. And yet, the technologies to make some of these nightmarish visions possible are progressing so fast it would make your...

OAKLAND, Calif. - Violence in Oakland has reached a boiling point, that NAACP's Oakland chapter asked that the city declare a state of emergency, and now, the regional branch is doubling down. Just days ago, the Oakland chapter of the organization wrote a letter to the city saying in part: "Failed leadership, including the movement to refund the police, our District Attorney’s unwillingness to charge and prosecute people who murder and commit life-threatening serious crimes, and the proliferation of anti-police rhetoric have created a heyday for Oakland criminals." On Saturday the chapter that oversees the entire state of California showed...

Minnesota Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar took to spewing lies and false hoods again this week when she claimed that Americans should live in abject fear of white men, alleging that white men commit the majority of violence in the United States. None of which is true — but of course, the truth has never stopped this squad banshee from pushing her narrative. In an interview with Al Jazeera, of all places, Omar claimed, “Our country should be more fearful of white men across our country because they are actually causing most of the deaths within this country.” […] In 2018,...

… The grimly named European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is projected to cost 7 euros per application and take up to 14 days to render a decision. Before you start shaking your fist at freedom-hating Eurocrats, know that ETIAS is the belated continental answer to a system the U.S. has imposed on residents of friendly countries since 2009, called the Electronic System for Travel Authorization, or ESTA. Like ETIAS, ESTA is a response to 21st-century terrorist attacks and combines modest fees ($21) with less-than-instantaneous turnaround times (a promised 72 hours). Both either tweak or torpedo (depending on your...

The plant-based milk industry is booming, and new milks seem to be cropping up everywhere — from the old standbys of almond milk and oat milk, to newfangled pistachio milk and cashew milk. The options are endless. But few of these alternatives compare to cow's milk in terms of nutrition, according to data presented on July 24 at the American Society for Nutrition Conference in Boston. The data has not yet been published. "I thought going into this that the manufacturers would have been looking at cow's milk and trying to match it with these products," Dr. Abigail Johnson, who...
