Johannesburg, South Africa was treated to a rare dusting of snow this week – the city’s first in more than 10 years. The unexpected winter wonderland was part of a patch of snow that covered various provinces through the weekend into Monday, South Africa’s Times newspaper reported. Photos from around the city show delighted residents gallivanting among the snowflakes, which last coated the area in August 2012. “Eleven years down the line, it’s exciting that we have snow,” local Jennifer Banda said. Others on social media referred to the weather as “pure magic,” The Guardian reported.

These days, the antidote looks more like the poison than the cure. At least, that was the case for Kim Witczak’s husband who, while struggling with insomnia, was put on antidepressants. He ultimately lost himself and ended up committing suicide. Kim and Dr. Liz Mumper discuss the details, today, on ‘Good Morning CHD.’

The e-mail was about Chanel Lewis, whom I wrote about in a 2022 article for The Nation, “When The NYPD Gets Desperate.” In 2019, Lewis was convicted of the 2016 murder of Karina Vetrano. In my piece, I confirmed that during the Vetrano homicide investigation the NYPD illegally used a private and secretive DNA lab to conduct unproven forensics and then failed to disclose it during Lewis’s first trial, which ended in a mistrial, or his second, which ended in a life sentence. “We have recently received some disturbing reports about his circumstances,” Scaife wrote. The information in the June...

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a sudden flurry of moves declared by members of the administration to be a "total coincidence" in the wake of cocaine being discovered in the White House, President Joe Biden has promised to fix the immigration issues at the southern border, reduce inflation, end the Ukraine-Russia war, eliminate student debt, reverse climate change, eradicate hotel junk fees, fund all new infrastructure initiatives, balance the national budget, and redesign the White House Rose Garden by 4 A.M. tomorrow morning. "Listen up, folks!" Biden said frantically with wide-open, bloodshot eyes. "It's — sniff — time to stop...

VIDEOOkay, technically it's the Seattle Mariner's Moose Mascot but to all appearances he is Bullwinkle. And, bizarrely, the FBI enlisted Bullwinkle for a PSA on flying drones in restricted areas. Perhaps the FBI could also enlist Bullwinkle to appear before Congress. Bullwinkle would certainly be more forthcoming in answering question than typical stonewalling FBI officials whose standard answer is "I can't comment about an ongoing investigation." We should be hearing a lot of that stonewalling excuse when FBI Director Christopher Wray appears before Congress on July 12. Better to have Bullwinkle provide the answers because he is sure to be...

ROME — Archbishop Víctor Manuel Fernández, the newly appointed prefect of the Vatican’s doctrinal office (DDF), insisted in a recent interview he is not a Freemason or a “Soros spy infiltrated in the Church.” The progressive Archbishop Fernández told Crux, an online U.S.-based Catholic news outlet, that insinuations that he is a Soros plant looking to advance a New World Order are “pure fantasies.” As Breitbart News reported, on July 1 Pope Francis announced the elevation of Archbishop Fernández, his longtime friend and ghostwriter, to the post as head of the Vatican’s powerful doctrinal office.

Newport Mayor Dean Sawyer apologized and resigned Monday morning after spurring a public uproar and calls to step down for a yearslong series of hateful posts to a private police Facebook group, saying “My online persona has become too polarizing for me to continue.” “I now realize that some of my actions and my words have hurt people I love and care about,” Sawyer wrote in his resignation letter first shared with The Oregonian/OregonLive. “This is something that I take full responsibility for. I am sorry to everyone in this community and anyone hurt by my actions, directly or indirectly.”...

To the people out there who think that there's nothing wrong with that..., you're f---ed up. This is bull---t. And there's something wrong with you,' the dad said. A father went on an explosive rant against gender ideology after his 9-year-old son who plays tackle football, and is a "boy's boy," was exposed to the topic by a doctor ... The dad had just got off the phone with his wife when he recorded the video, and angrily recounted how his 9-year-old son was exposed to gender ideology during a routine checkup at the doctor's office. His son needed to...

Artificial intelligence working to help protect national security is "here to stay," and the U.S. Air Force is already showcasing how AI can dominate airspace. "We need to recognize that AI is here. It's here to stay. It's a powerful tool," Air Force Col. Tucker "Cinco" Hamilton said in a video published by the Air Force Research Laboratory. The AFRL, which is headquartered in Ohio, detailed plans this month on how autonomous drones will act like wingmen to pilots in the future, including training artificial intelligence on the Kratos XQ-58 Valkyrie experimental drone. AFRL’s office of Strategic Development, Planning and...

The easiest way to identify a hopelessly lost cause is to listen to the gurgitation of idiocy coming from those advancing and/or sponsoring said cause. A prime example of same is the outrageous claim written in a dissenting opinion by associate justice of the Supreme Court Ketanji Brown Jackson in Students for Fair Admissions v. President and Fellows of Harvard College. In what appeared to be a last ditch effort to give a single-digit salute to the six SCOTUS justices whose decision effectively ended melanin-coded affirmative action as consideration for college admission, Jackson threw everything at the wall hoping something...

Despite overwhelming opposition from parents, Virginia's Fairfax County Public School Board (FCPSB) mandated that sex-education for all students will emphasize woke gender ideology. This is the same school board whose previous insistence that students could use the restrooms of their chosen gender enabled a male to sexually assault a female in the girls' restroom. FCPSB also defied the state's governor by suspending students for not wearing masks after he lifted covid restrictions. Superintendent Michelle Reid dismissed the parents' objections, saying that "the majority doesn't always get its way. The fact that 84% of the parents responding to a survey on...

‘Doom-and-gloom’ climate news can increase people’s fear over what’s coming, but it may also spark audiences to consider what society can do to fix the problem, a new study has found. The research, published in the journal Climate Change last week, exposed a group to seven consecutive days of negative climate change news stories posted to Twitter. Those participants were only shown news headlines appearing from outlets like BBC News, National Public Radio (NPR) and the Associated Press. One negative headline read “Climate change: Summers could become ‘too hot for humans,’” together with an image of a melting Earth glowing...

The FBI colluded with a Ukrainian intelligence agency in an effort to disrupt Russian disinformation campaigns by flagging social media accounts in a failed effort that ensnared a verified Russian-language U.S. State Department account and others, the House Judiciary Committee said in a report released Monday. The report said the FBI partnered with the SBU, one of Ukraine's intelligence agencies, to flag the accounts believed to have spread Russian disinformation. Both agencies flagged American accounts for removal, as well as those belonging to American journalists, the report said. The FBI and SBU requested the removal or suspension of the accounts...

MyPillow is auctioning off hundreds of pieces of equipment and subleasing manufacturing space after several shopping networks and major retailers took the company's products off shelves. The Chaska-based manufacturer recently listed more than 850 "surplus equipment" items on the online auction site K-Bid. Sewing machines, industrial fabric spreaders, forklifts and even desks and chairs are up for auction. Founder and CEO Mike Lindell said MyPillow has experienced a loss in revenue and the items are no longer needed as the company consolidates its operations.

GOP presidential candidate Chris Christie said Tuesday that former President Trump goes to bed every night thinking about the threat of going to jail over his 37-count federal indictment in the classified documents case. Christie, the former governor of New Jersey, said based on the indictment, he believes Trump would be convicted and ultimately face jail time if he went to trial. During an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” he said that to avoid going to jail, Trump may consider taking a plea deal instead of going to trial, despite his claims that he is not “afraid.”

As the planet heats up due to global warming over much of the past century, so have spaces underneath the Loop. That’s a cause for concern around the impact on buildings, new research from Northwestern University finds — though it also presents an opportunity to reuse that heat. Building basements, the subway system, parking garages and other below-ground areas generate a lot of heat. That combined with warmer air on the surface has made for a significantly hotter underground, something old cities across the world experience. So Alessandro Rotta Loria, an assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering, decided to...

The House Homeland Security Committee has begun hearings on Mayorkas that might lead to impeachment. At the first hearing, former Border Patrol Chief Rodney Scott said that Mayorkas’ agenda was to “find new ways to let more migrants into the U.S.,” and Former Acting Homeland Director Chad Wolf added that “it was by design.” In reality, his career has long been marred by scandal and corruption. In 2015, the Homeland Security Inspector General found then Deputy Director Mayorkas had showed “favoritism and special access” involving visas and green cards when he was Director of Citizenship and Immigration from 2009 to...

HEADQUARTERS ARMY OF THE POTOMAC, Friday, July 19, 1863. The historic stream of Antietam has again been spanned by the echoes of cannon. A vigorous artillery and cavalry fight took place this morning over its waters, preparatory to the great expected conflict. The cavalry and artillery of BUFORD, aided by that of KILPATRICK on the left flank of the enemy, dislodged him last evening from the village of Benevola, on the road from Boonsboro to Hagerstown, driving him two miles beyond Beaver Creek. This morning the sharp skirmishing continued with equal success, until the enemy rested on strong positions near...
