Newport Mayor Dean Sawyer apologized and resigned Monday morning after spurring a public uproar and calls to step down for a yearslong series of hateful posts to a private police Facebook group, saying “My online persona has become too polarizing for me to continue.”
“I now realize that some of my actions and my words have hurt people I love and care about,” Sawyer wrote in his resignation letter first shared with The Oregonian/OregonLive. “This is something that I take full responsibility for. I am sorry to everyone in this community and anyone hurt by my actions, directly or indirectly.”
Sawyer acknowledged the posts and said they “do not reflect my values. It was wrong for me to belittle people with experiences different than my own.”

"According to OBP, among other things, Sawyer had posted an image of scantily clad women with text that reads “strippers waiting for EMS to untangle the new girl’s balls from the pole.” The civil servant also reportedly posted an image of a journalist interviewing competitive swimmer Lia Thomas, a trans woman. The image was captioned with the words “I won that woman’s swim race fair and square, if they don’t like it they can suck my d**k.”

Should posted bad jokes. Those are good enough to get noticed. I love the one about the Trans strippers balls tangled on the pole.

My English teacher from this school reduced my grade to an a minus cuz of ‘ content’ when I defended Clarence Thomas against Anita hill’s scumy assertions regarding a supposed pubic hair on a soda can as a seduction attempt.
Kept me from a 4.0 GPA.

I was a dislocated timber worker,,my tuition was being paid under a retraining bill from the state after being unemployed by the eco Natzis and was broke, couldn’t afford one.
I just took it as a heads up that I would never be graded fairly in any college due to my refusal to hide my conservative Christian world view.

Why would any elected official put personal posts on social media? It’s lose/lose. Too many wake up every morning looking for something to be offended over.
Too bad you couldn’t have found a lawyer who could’ve worked pro bono. Groups today would’ve taken you up on it. Conservative Christians remain the only group that it’s OK to discriminate against, and that needs to stop.
