During Monday's press briefing, Jean-Pierre appeared to echo those blue state concerns and her admission that unchecked immigration overwhelms localities amused many conservatives. "I’ve said it many times from here repeatedly from this podium that bussing or flying migrants around the country without any coordination with the federal government - we’ve talked about this, state or local officials as well - is dangerous and unacceptable," she said....

D-Day was the name given to the June 6, 1944, invasion of the beaches at Normandy in northern France by troops from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and other countries during World War II. France at the time was occupied by the armies of Nazi Germany, and the amphibious assault—codenamed Operation Overlord—landed some 156,000 Allied soldiers on the beaches of Normandy by the end of the day. Despite their success, some 4,000 Allied troops were killed by German soldiers defending the beaches. At the time, the D-Day invasion was the largest naval, air and land operation in history,...

Summer’s coming. That means sunshine, swimming, cookouts — and blackouts. That’s the warning from the North American Electric Reliability Corporation. According to NERC, at least two-thirds of the country is at risk for major power outages this summer. This extends to most everyone west of the Mississippi except for Texas. Texas and much of the Midwest will be fine, the report says, so long as we don’t experience hot, windless summer days. Well, that’s a relief. When do we ever get hot, windless summer days in Texas and the Midwest? Part of the problem is the steady removal of fossil-fuel...

(Daily readings from the USCCB)“Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not? Should we pay or should we not pay?” Knowing their hypocrisy he said to them, “Why are you testing me? Bring me a denarius to look at.” Mark 12:14–15These Pharisees and Herodians were sent to trap Jesus in His speech. These men were very politically minded and loved to pick sides and find fault with others. They were self-righteous and cared little about the salvation of souls. So they came to Jesus with what appeared to be an innocent question. They appear to presume...

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Human Rights Campaign declared a state of emergency for LGBTQ+ people in the U.S. on Tuesday and a released “a guidebook for action” summarizing what it calls discriminatory laws in each state, along with “know your rights” information and health and safety resources. Sounding the alarm about the current political environment, the nation’s largest organization devoted to the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer Americans said advisories warning against travel to dangerous places aren’t enough to help people already living in so-called hostile states. The guidebook aims to help millions of vulnerable people, “whether...

This list only includes destroyed vehicles and equipment of which photo or videographic evidence is available. Therefore, the amount of equipment destroyed is significantly higher than recorded here. Small arms, ATGMs, MANPADS, loitering munitions, drones used as unmanned bait, civilian vehicles, trailers and derelict equipment are not included in this list. All possible effort has gone into avoiding duplicate entries and discerning the status of equipment between captured or abandoned. House Republicans are set to repudiate U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen for telling other countries that the U.S. is on board with a global tax initiative aimed at punishing global corporations. All 25 Republicans on the House Ways and Means Committee have co-authored the Defending American Jobs and Investment Act (H.R. 3665), which would impose retaliatory taxes on countries that impose harsh taxes on American companies. This bill doesn’t come out of nowhere, however. It’s a direct response to Yellen telling global leaders that the U.S. would like to take part in the global tax – one that would benefit...
