In order to win a defamation lawsuit, the person suing must convince the court and ultimately the jury that the slanderer didn’t just publish something false, but that he did so even while suspecting that the attack was false. Immigration enforcement activist D.A. King’s lawsuit against the Southern Poverty Law Center made it to the discovery process while so many other lawsuits have failed precisely because King showed that the SPLC had reason to doubt the truth of its claim that his organization, the Dustin Inman Society, was an “anti-immigrant hate group.” In fact, the SPLC had explicitly stated that...

A senior Iranian cleric says around 50,000 of Iran's 75,000 mosques are closed, showing the declining numbers of Iranians attending. Expressing regret over the low numbers engaged in worship, Mohammad Abolghassem Doulabi, who serves as the liaison between Ebrahim Raisi’s administration and the country’s seminaries, said on Thursday that the numbers are a "worrying admission” for a state built around the principles of Islam. Doulabi, who is also a member of the Assembly of Experts – a deliberative body empowered to appoint the Supreme Leader – said the outcome of religion in Iran has led to people leaving religion. Emphasizing...

MOSCOW, June 5 (Reuters) - Russia said on Monday that its forces had thwarted a major Ukrainian offensive at five points along the front in the southern Ukrainian region of Donetsk and killed hundreds of pro-Kyiv troops. Russia's defence ministry said Ukraine had attacked with six mechanised and two tank battalions in southern Donetsk, where Moscow has long suspected Ukraine would seek...

I ask your prayers for my friend Jerry. He has been afflicted with permanent injuries sustained when he was hit by a car three years ago. He has done quite well in dealing with them, and getting a new start on life, but he was feeling poorly late in the week -- fever, fatigue, possible UTI etc.-- and was diagnosed with pleural effusion -- fluid around the lungs -- which he describes as feeling like he is drowning. O Lord Almighty, the Healer of our souls and bodies, You Who put down and raise up, Who chastise and heal also;...

He could order the investigation and prosecution of individuals who he...

At a red-brick factory in the German port city of Hamburg, cocoa bean shells go in one end, and out the other comes an amazing black powder with the potential to counter climate change. The substance, dubbed biochar, is produced by heating the cocoa husks in an oxygen-free room to 600 degrees Celsius (1,112 Fahrenheit). The process locks in greenhouse gases and the final product can be used as a fertilizer, or as an ingredient in the production of "green" concrete. While the biochar industry is still in its infancy, the technology offers a novel way to remove carbon from...

An excerpt of comments from Richard Baris of People's Pundit on political operatives, posted on twitter by Grace Chong “Trump is a transactional guy, right? Let’s say DeSantis gets out & 100% endorses & campaigns for him & we all give him $. He’ll forgive us right? I don’t speak for Trump. I don’t even know the man. I can tell you this. He is business oriented but this is different. In my mind it would take a lot. You may need to go to Mar-A-Lago & bend over the desk & get branded w/ Trump on your ass check...

Consumer advocate: New Biden regulations mean ‘Everyday things that people want are going to get more expensive or disappear' ... A pledge by the Biden administration in December 2022 to take “more than 100 actions” to impose significantly tighter environmental standards on consumer goods is now becoming reality, and consumer groups are predicting a future in which Americans pay more for products that do less, while manufacturers warn of shortages and supply chain breakdowns. “You’re seeing, just in the last few months, new rules from the Biden administration about clothes washers, dishwashers, and other kinds of kitchen appliances, and in...

For her, there is an increasingly “fluid world” and “we must accept Francis' invitation to listen before judging and pigeonholing.” The oligarchs are proud of Monetti, but they won't send her any vocations.
