Supramolecular assemblies of six rubidium and one iron atom. Scanning tunneling microscopy revealed the clear signal of the one iron atom. (Ajayi et al., Nature, 2023) ***************************************************************************** Atoms may not have bones, but we still want to know how they are put together. These tiny particles are the basis on which all normal matter is built (including our bones), and understanding them helps us understand the larger Universe. We currently use high-energy X-ray light to help us understand atoms and molecules and how they're arranged, catching diffracted beams to reconstruct their configurations in crystal form. Now, scientists have used X-rays...

An adult mastodon tooth that was spotted at Rio Del Mar Beach near Aptos Creek is now in the hands of paleontologists in Santa Cruz. The foot-long tooth was found by Jennifer Schuh while walking the beach on Friday. Not knowing what it was, she snapped a few photos, posted them on social media and left it on the sand. That caught the attention of paleontologist Wayne Thompson at the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History. "He called me and told me what it was and I rushed back, but it was gone. I was crushed," Schuh said. "I knew...

Adult Wing Precursor Imaginal Cells of Drosophila melanogaster Absence of Chinmo in imaginal cells suppresses wing growth (left) compared to control wing precursor tissue (middle), while overexpression of the Chinmo gene induces tissue overgrowth, as occurs in processes tumors (right). Credit: IBE Researchers discover Chimno, the gene responsible for the juvenile stage in insects. This gene is present in mammals and could play a key role in cancerous processes. The study, which was published in the journal eLife and led by the Institute for Evolutionary Biology (IBE, CSIC-UPF) and the IRB Barcelona, has revealed that the Chinmo gene is responsible...

General Flynn is suing the US Government for malicious prosecution and abuse of process. The government filed a motion to move the case from the middle district of FL to DC. The following is the opposition to the motion to transfer the venue. General Flynn is represented by Jason Greaves of the Binnall Law Group. The Plaintiff argues that the motion to transfer is a “transparent attempt” to “forum shop”—the government thinks they will be able to win if they hear the case in DC. This would be prejudicial to the Plaintiff, who has the right to choose the venue...

Explanation: How did we get here? We know that we live on a planet orbiting a star orbiting a galaxy, but how did all of this form? Since our universe moves too slowly to watch, faster-moving computer simulations are created to help find out. Specifically, this featured video from the IllustrisTNG collaboration tracks gas from the early universe (redshift 12) until today (redshift 0). As the simulation begins, ambient gas falls into and accumulates in a region of relatively high gravity. After a few billion years, a well-defined center materializes from a strange and fascinating cosmic dance. Gas blobs --...

WASHINGTON — FBI Director Christopher Wray offered Wednesday to allow House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer to privately review an informant file alleging President Biden was involved in bribery — as a top White House spokesman insisted there was “nothing to” the corruption claims. A source familiar with Wray’s early-afternoon call with Comer (R-Ky.) and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) told The Post that the FBI chief confirmed the existence of an FD-1023 informant file from June 2020 accusing Biden of bribery and offered the lawmakers “in camera review” of the document. The FBI had refused to share the document following...

A group of 21 Republican-led states are taking legal action on behalf of Florida parents who sued their daughter's school after teachers launched a 'transgender support plan' for their 13-year-old without asking for their parental consent. January Littlejohn said her then 13-year-old daughter had a group of friends who were 'obsessed' with anything to do with the LGBTQ community, and when three of them began identifying as trans or non-binary her daughter said she was confused about her own gender. Despite bringing their daughter to a counselor help her work through her confusion, the Littlejohns learned that school bosses had...

Shares of Bud Light’s parent company are now down more than 20% in the two months since the beer sent personalized memorabilia to transgender social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney, ...$26 billion. Project Veritas, which ousted its founder James O'Keefe earlier this year, has filed a lawsuit against O'Keefe alleging financial misdoings. Veritas is a 501c(3) not-for-profit that subsists on donations. The suit was filed in New York."Being known as the founder of an organization does not entitle that person to run amok and put his own interests ahead of the organization," the suit claims, alleging that O'Keefe "failed in his duties" to Veritas, thereby "causing it serious and significant damage."

New footage has emerged calling into question the innocence of three Marines involved a brawl with a mob of teenagers. The video shows the teen provoking the servicemen who are seen staggering about San Clemente beach topless clutching bottles of beer. One of the servicemen lashes out at the teens, dropping his bottle of beer in the process, and has to be restrained by his comrade as the kids continue to goad them while filming on their phones. The Marines say they were assaulted after confronting the group over letting off fireworks. But footage taken prior to the all out...

A person who was a teenager when Obamacare was debated and passed is now around 30 years old. Put another way, if you were 15 years old when We The People defeated Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley with Scott Brown and took the Kennedy senate seat, you are about to turn 30. Think about the context of modern Republican politics and time. This context reminds us that a large portion of the generally distracted population has no foundational understanding of modern Republican politics. This context is also the baseline behind ‘battered conservative syndrome‘.You will never, not ever, see a professional Republican politician...

One of the key aspects to noticing a controlled candidate is the speech, cadence and distinct linguistics used during prepared remarks. When a candidate is authentic in delivery of advocacy points, their speech is a natural flow of thoughts and ideas they create in verbal delivery. However, when a politician is delivering a speech constructed for them, using the thoughts of others, you will notice a cadence constructed around a series of soundbites that are strung together.Ron DeSantis kicked-off his official Iowa campaign today literally reading prepared remarks that did not come from his own thought processes. When delivering a speech...

Many Chicago Ridge residents say "Ridgefest" is like their vacation right here at home. Ridgefest has been around for over 30 years, but in the last couple of days, the village board decided to cancel the event, citing safety concerns. Chicago Ridge Mayor Charles Tokar said the board voted unanimously to cancel the fest, which would've included live music, carnival rides and nearly 20 vendors. The move comes a few weeks after hundreds of teens were seen fighting at a carnival in Tinley Park. The Chicago Ridge village board – and residents – felt local police may not be prepared...

Just hours before the House is set to meet for a vote to raise the debt ceiling, several progressive Democrats have come out in opposition to the bill and say they won’t assist House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) in pushing the legislation across the finish line. Congressional Progressive Caucus Chairwoman Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) announced she would be voting against the bill on Wednesday, setting the stage for several other progressive lawmakers to fall in line behind her. Jayapal told Axios that a “majority of the caucus” opposes the bill, which “could be” enough for them to actively whip against the...

Walt Whitman was born on this date in West Hills, New York, in 1819, 204 years ago. Few can touch him for the greatness he achieved in his use of the English language. Wikipedia states: "Art historian Mary Berenson says, "You cannot really understand America without Walt Whitman, without Leaves of Grass ..... He has expressed that civilization, 'up to date,' as he would say, and no student of the philosophy of history can do without him." " Here are some of Whitman's own words which I believe justify Berenson's assessment. “I too am not a bit tamed, I too...

In June 1969, a courageous group of Americans rose up to protest the violence and marginalization they faced in what became known as the Stonewall Uprising. Police had raided the Stonewall Inn — a gay bar located in New York City — and for the next six days they clashed with LGBTQI+ protestors, who bravely stood their ground. Their courage sparked a civil rights movement for the liberation of the LGBTQI+ community and changed our Nation forever.

Topline Novak Djokovic has been warned by sporting authorities against making political statements at the French Open, the latest controversy for the Serbian tennis star after he weighed in on ethnic tensions between Serbia and Kosovo amid rising ethnic tensions in the region.

Among both his friends and his enemies, there is a tendency to think of Donald Trump as sui generis: a political figure, and certainly a president, unlike any other. In some respects, including his incessant mendacity and his tendency to publicly insult everyone who doesn’t bow down to him, he may truly be without equal in U.S. history and more comparable to foreign political strongmen from Juan Perón to Viktor Orban. But at the New York Times, Ross Barkan suggests that as Trump pursues a comeback after his 2020 defeat (which, of course, he will not acknowledge), he may actually...

The Glory of the Christian Rainbow and the Satanism of Its InversionAbove: Prayer of thanksgiving after leaving Noah’s Ark, by Domenico Morelli (4 August 1823 – 13 August 1901).There is something not only publicly offensive but positively demonic about the way the rainbow and the month of June—traditionally dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus—have been violently appropriated by one of the most socially and morally destructive forces in the world, the LGBTQ+ movement. It hardly needs to be stated among Christians that the rainbow is, first and foremost, God’s sign, and any legitimate use of it must be tied back...
