With even nationalist pro-war bloggers criticising Putin’s actions in Ukraine, his desperation and paranoia are growing. May is traditionally a month for public celebration in Russia, with massive public processions on 1 May for Labour Day and military parades on 9 May for Victory Day, a holiday commemorating the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany. Not so in 2023. Russia’s biggest trade union cancelled its traditional Labour Day demonstrations because of the “heightened risk of terrorist activity”, while regions near the Ukrainian border called off Victory Day parades so as to “not provoke” the Ukrainian army. The Russian government has warned...

With Mika Brzezinski leading the charge, Morning Joe heaped praise on Kevin McCarthy today for his strong statement to a Russian reporter during his visit to Israel bashing Russia's invasion of Ukraine and in support of aid to Ukraine. In part, McCarthy said "I do not support what your country has done to Ukraine. I do not support your killing of the children either. And I think for one standpoint, you should pull out." Mika acknowledged that she has been a "frequent critic" of McCarthy, but called his statement "amazing," and even, without irony, clapped [see screencap] in a show...

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) joined calls by progressives for Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) to resign as her prolonged absence hampers Democrats. Feinstein, 89, has been out of the Senate since February, when she contracted shingles, which has prompted a small contingent of progressives in the House to urge her to resign. So far, Feinstein has refused to do so, and allies such as Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) have cried sexism

Explanation: Why are there so many flat rocks on Mars? Some views of plains and hills on Mars show many rocks that are unusually flat when compared to rocks on Earth. One reason for this is a process that is common to both Mars and Earth: erosion. The carbon-dioxide wind on Mars can act like sandpaper when it blows around gritty Martian sand. This sand can create differential erosion, smoothing over some rocks, while wearing down the tops of other long-exposed stones. The featured image capturing several hills covered with flat-topped rocks was taken last month by NASA's Curiosity Rover...

Joe Biden recently made a disturbing comment that sounded like a creepy plea for collectivist child raising, further highlighting the role that the United States government plays in violating parental rights and indoctrinating and seizing children. “Rebekah put a teacher’s creed into words when she said, There’s no such thing as someone else’s child. No such thing as someone else’s child. Our nation’s children are all our children,” Joe Biden stated, referring to a Teacher of the Year honoree named Rebekah. At a Teacher of the Year ceremony from 2022, Biden also made a remark indicating his support for a...

The Kremlin is suddenly concerned with saving face ahead of an imminent Ukrainian counteroffensive. After spending the last year reassuring Russians that victory is inevitable in the war against Ukraine, the Kremlin is now frantically working to lower expectations—and rolling out a contingency plan to lessen the impact of a humiliating defeat. A new manual prepared by Russia’s presidential administration and distributed to the Kremlin’s army of propagandists contains some surprising instructions: Do not “underestimate” Ukraine’s impending counter-offensive and do not spread the idea that Kyiv is somehow “not ready” for it. That’s according to the independent news outlet Meduza,...

As the business operations of politics and consultants start their income cycle, several polls have been released in the past several days attempting to capture the attention of an increasingly angst riddled population.Household economics, job losses, wage pressure, destabilized checkbook finance issues and ongoing inflation continue at the forefront of concerns for the majority of voters. In an effort to distract from the core issue(s) of policy, both the republican and democrat corporations are trying to divert attention to more favorable social issues. However, after multiple election cycles, a larger portion of the general population has caught on to the...

A majority of voters believe Secretary of State Anthony Blinken should be impeached for his reported role in helping suppress news about Hunter Biden’s laptop during the 2020 presidential campaign. Pachamama Good, Christ Bad. Or: Tough Guys, Clowns, And CowardsAn Italian Priest has been suspended a divinis for having dared to publish a 1300-Pages mammoth book about Francis’ heresies, with particular reference to Amoris Laetitia. Don Tullio Rotondo, the courageous and, actually, Catholic priest, has been suspended by his own bishop. This means that this was not, say, the CDF suspending Father for being heretical, something which would have been extremely fun to watch. It is, instead, his own pastor suspending him for being Catholic. I wonder how many, certainly, heretical books have been published by religious in the Sixties...

Scientists in India are protesting a decision to remove discussion of Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution from textbooks used by millions of students in ninth and 10th grades. More than 4000 researchers and others have so far signed an open letter asking officials to restore the material. The removal makes “a travesty of the notion of a well-rounded secondary education,” says evolutionary biologist Amitabh Joshi of the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research. Other researchers fear it signals a growing embrace of pseudoscience by Indian officials. The Breakthrough Science Society, a nonprofit group, launched the open letter on 20...
