VIDEOElie Mystal had an hilarious reaction to the new GOP House rules which he expressed in his unique way in an MSNBC appearance with Chris Hayes. The weird thing is as Hayes even admitted is that the new House rules will make it harder to serve the interests of lobbyists and corporate America. I am old enough to remember a time when making the rules tougher for the interests of lobbyists and corporations was something that would be hailed by liberals. Now those rules seem to disturb them greatly.

Reaching out here because I haven't had any luck with search engines like google. I can no longer go to the free clinic thats near me to get my medications and the walkin clinics are ridiculously expensive. All I need is a doc to look at my medical history and medications and approve a refill. The meds are really cheap and I can handle the $15/mo cost but they want $165 just to acknowledge my existence at the walk-in clinic here. Appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

"We had a great success last night," Trump said of the vote for McCarthy. "And I really believe that four days of trauma has made the Republican Party a much stronger party." Former President Donald Trump spoke at a private event at Mar-a-Lago on Saturday night, and gave praise to both newly elected House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, and Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz, the man who stood in the way of McCarthy's ascension until the very end. Footage of the speech was obtained by Jack Posobiec of Human Events Daily. "We had a great success last night," Trump said of the...

As members of Congress, Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) and Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) formed a brutally powerful duo on Capitol Hill last decade, developing a niche specialty in blowing things up. In 2015, Meadows delivered the blow that helped sink the incumbent House speaker, John Boehner (R-Ohio), and Jordan led the charge over the next two weeks to help defeat the establishment choice, Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), for speaker. But for the past week, the co-founders of the House Freedom Caucus have been on opposing sides of Washington’s biggest fight: McCarthy’s marathon attempt to become House speaker. Three blocks away, in a...

The Funeral Rites of Benedict XVI and the Many Petty Gestures of FrancisFrancis’ Petty Heart Mediocre people surround themselves with ones even more mediocre than themselves in order to be able to manage them as they please and conceal their own mediocrity. This is what Bergoglio did as soon as he took over the papal throne. And it has been demonstrated for the umpteenth time with the death of Pope Benedict XVI. I summarize here some of the events of the last few days, mostly anecdotal, but which reveal the mean and petty soul of Pope Francis. Some are public;...

A ruling by a federal appeals court that upheld a Florida school district’s policy of separating restrooms by “biological sex” could be used to bar men from joining women’s sports teams, legal experts told the Daily Caller News Foundation. In a 7-4 decision on Dec. 30, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected a prior ruling by a district judge and ruled that a Florida school board’s policy that required students to use bathrooms that correspond to their biological sex was constitutional and did not violate Title IX, a federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex....

RUSSIA claimed it killed 600 Ukrainian soldiers in a single massive rocket strike in revenge for a deadly attack on Putin's forces. Moscow said it had blasted two buildings temporarily housing 1,300 Ukrainian troops in the country's eastern region Donetsk on Sunday.Russia's defence ministry claimed more than 600 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed in the city of Kramatorsk in what it branded a "retaliatory strike". But Ukraine has dismissed Moscow's claim. Serhiy Cherevaty, a spokesman for the Ukrainian army, told the BBC: "This is another piece of Russian propaganda." Kramatorsk's mayor earlier said there had been no casualties. Russia's defence...

It seems as if anything can be done – truly anything – if it is in the name of safety. From the pandemic to peanut butter, as long as a new rule, regulation, mandate, dictate is couched in the language of improving safety it is either completely cosseted from criticism or its possibilities for gross governmental misuse are downplayed as the ravings of a paranoid lunatic. California and the rest of the nation may very well soon learn that when it comes to “good intentions,” if the government is involved the true intentions are often hidden and they are very...

KRAMATORSK, Ukraine, Jan 8 (Reuters) - A Russian missile attack on the Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk missed its targets and there were no obvious signs of casualties, a Reuters reporter said on Sunday, after Moscow claimed the strike killed 600 Ukrainian soldiers. A Reuters team visited two college dormitories that Moscow said had been temporarily housing Ukrainian personnel and which it had targeted as revenge for a New Year's attack that killed scores of Russian soldiers and caused outcry in Russia. But neither dormitory in the eastern city of Kramatorsk appeared to have been directly hit or seriously damaged. There...

When it comes to the war in Ukraine, about the only thing that’s certain right now is that the fighting and destruction will continue.Vladimir Putin remains fully committed to bringing all of Ukraine back under Russian control or — failing that — destroying it as a viable country. He believes it is his historical destiny — his messianic mission — to reestablish the Russian Empire and, as Zbigniew Brzezinski observed years ago, there can be no Russian Empire without Ukraine. Both of us have dealt with Putin on a number of occasions, and we are convinced he believes time is...

When I was asked to take over this column from my friend Kathy Shaidle, at her request, I knew one thing for certain: it would be a long time before I'd try to write about Bette Davis. Davis was Kathy's favourite movie star, All About Eve her favourite movie. She wrote columns about both of them, and any attempt on my part to match her thoughts about Davis would only showcase my comparative lack of insight. This coming week marks the second anniversary of Kathy's death. Along with her dog-eared copy of Whittaker Chambers' Witness, I've come into possession of...
