Opinion - Time is not on Ukraine’s side [arch-neocons Condi Rice & Robert Gates spill in The Bezos Blog]
The Washington Post ^ | January 7, 2023 | Condoleezza Rice and Robert M. Gates

When it comes to the war in Ukraine, about the only thing that’s certain right now is that the fighting and destruction will continue.

Vladimir Putin remains fully committed to bringing all of Ukraine back under Russian control or — failing that — destroying it as a viable country. He believes it is his historical destiny — his messianic mission — to reestablish the Russian Empire and, as Zbigniew Brzezinski observed years ago, there can be no Russian Empire without Ukraine.

Both of us have dealt with Putin on a number of occasions, and we are convinced he believes time is on his side: that he can wear down the Ukrainians and that U.S. and European unity and support for Ukraine will eventually erode and fracture. To be sure, the Russian economy and people will suffer as the war continues, but Russians have endured far worse.

For Putin, defeat is not an option. He cannot cede to Ukraine the four eastern provinces he has declared part of Russia. If he cannot be militarily successful this year, he must retain control of positions in eastern and southern Ukraine that provide future jumping-off points for renewed offensives to take the rest of Ukraine’s Black Sea coast, control the Donbas region and then move west. Eight years separated Russia’s seizure of Crimea and its invasion nearly a year ago. Count on Putin to be patient to achieve his destiny.

Meanwhile, although Ukraine’s response to the invasion has been heroic and its military has performed brilliantly, the country’s economy is in a shambles, millions of its people have fled, its infrastructure is being destroyed, and much of its mineral wealth, industrial capacity and considerable agricultural land are under Russian control. Ukraine’s military capability and economy are now dependent almost entirely on lifelines from the West...

To the last Ukrainian ! - Lindseed GayRam

provide the Ukrainians with longer-range missiles, advanced drones, significant ammunition stocks (including artillery shells), more reconnaissance and surveillance capability, and other equipment. These capabilities are needed in weeks, not months.

Just like liberals when NPR is doing fundraising.

War is business and business is booming ! Let’s grift while the grifting is good ! Grab your stash today ! Two war criminals.

Does it really matter what Putin’s ambitions are, he’s going to be dead any day now, considering the multiple forms of cancer he’s suffering from and Parkinson’s disease and soils himself after failing down because his balance is so bad.

Come on, they don’t really believe this.

They’re just trying to get money for their boys in the MIC.

And to be sure, their hands are out waiting for some, too.

Ukraine is spent, they simply ran out of arms, young men and weapons, begging for more and more. Their population is already depleted of 18-60 year olds, and they are on their 8th mobilization- scrapping the bottom.
On the other hand- I don’t see Ivan drafting 60 year olds, and With Russia announcing they are going to kick their military up from 1.2 million to 1.5 million- well do the math ( the Ukies have been depopulated with 8-12 million already fleeing the country…)…sorry, just a matter of time , simple math.

Ukraine 1991-2023 RIP

A great way to profit from this war would be to elevate the cost of peace. The price of peace was cheap before the Russians crossed the border. All parties involved are fleecing us.

Neocons through and through.

They are advocating the military defeat of Russia by the West.

Something that cannot occur in Ukraine without nukes flying.

Yes, Russia would use nukes to protect their OBVIOUS strategic interests in Ukraine.

Elon Musk's peace proposal was right. Give Crimea to the Russians. Ukraine will have to give up on that. I would take it if I'm them. Then after the peace deal, I will work with the Israelis and develop nuclear weapons so Ukraine will never be invaded by the Russians again.

Otherwise, the Russians will continue the war for another 10 years until they take half of Ukraine. Time is not on Ukraine's side.

“”Russia cannot allow NATO as a next door neighbor””

How many NATO countries border Russia currently, and how many will border it within a month or two, or so?
