Closest of friends, Meadows and Jordan split over McCarthy
The Spokesman Review ^ | January 7, 2023 | Paul Kane

As members of Congress, Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) and Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) formed a brutally powerful duo on Capitol Hill last decade, developing a niche specialty in blowing things up.

In 2015, Meadows delivered the blow that helped sink the incumbent House speaker, John Boehner (R-Ohio), and Jordan led the charge over the next two weeks to help defeat the establishment choice, Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), for speaker.

But for the past week, the co-founders of the House Freedom Caucus have been on opposing sides of Washington’s biggest fight: McCarthy’s marathon attempt to become House speaker.

Three blocks away, in a corner townhouse that is home to a conservative nonprofit, Meadows played host to daily meetings of up to 20 staunch McCarthy critics, turning this corner of Washington into the new nerve center of “Make America Great Again” Republicans in Congress.

I believe, like Meadows appears to, that "the new nerve center of MAGA" are Republicans like Gaetz, who opposed McCarthy.

I just hope nobody burned any bridges with all of that, & they’re ready to work together to stop the stuff that needs stopping & investigate the hell out of things that need to be investigated.

I expect they did. Many gravy trains will be upset if they actually do end up breaking up Obama's Omnibus, as has been promised.

The new true MAGA team will be needing our support again soon, I expect.

Assuming they can continue to survive the swamp much longer themselves.

Yep. They believed McCarthy was WORSE than RYAN just a few years ago. Puts it in perspective.

to stop the stuff that needs stopping & investigate the hell out of things that need to be investigated.

That’s the rub. Anyone thinks that they’re going to stop anything in Sept/Oct is living in fantasy land.

Any investigations will be nothing more than any episode of Kabuki Theater.

Am I Debbie Downer? Nope. I’m a realist.

McCarthy and the republicans aren’t going to get rid of the funding for 87,000 IRS agents any more than they will investigate Hunter Biden.

Well thanks to the efforts of Gaetz and his crew, at least the House will now have the rules/tools to block the funding of the IRS, which they didn't have before. The status quo was the Obama Omnibus appropriations process, but the departmental bills will now have to be broken up again, as well as restoring the ability to block individual line items. Whether those tools will actually be used, however, will be another fight down the road.

Regarding Hunter Biden, my expectation is they will spend (waste) more time on this than anything. Jordan will be up acting all upset that Hunter got anonymous painting money, but I'll be surprised how much effort they really extend to tie what Hunter did up to the big guy. Of course that would really be the only thing worthy of pursuing, but in the end they probably won't do that and will only succeed at somehow turning the Biden's into sympathetic figures.

What I want to see is more about where Covid actually came from, and why those mRNA gene manipulations were pushed on everyone when THEY KNEW they didn't block transmission. That, and shutting down everything in government that isn't "mission essential" especially anything that benefits non-citizens, here, in Ukraine, or anywhere.

I think Marjorie Taylor Greene burned a lot of bridges. I know I will always look at her in a different way than I did prior to this event.
