... Washington’s formulation calls for balancing interest and justice. While in terms of justice, we should offer Ukraine as much support as we can afford, that support is necessarily limited by our own interests. One such interest is to avoid being drawn into an unnecessary war. Another is to be able to fight a war if it should come. Regarding the first, as I recently wrote in GoLocalProv, “The desire to aid Ukraine in repelling Russian aggression is understandable, but our policymakers have to ask themselves if we, like the European leaders of 1914, are sleepwalking into a war, the...

The popular weight loss drug Wegovy is now available to children as young as 12. Danish manufacturer Novo Nordisk announced that the Food and Drug Administration had extended the drug's approval to include children. It had previously received regulatory approval for use in adults last year. In clinical trials, teens aged 12 to 17 who took the weekly injection lost 14 percent of their body weight over 64 weeks. This nearly matches the trials for adults, where recipients lost 15 percent of their weight after 68 weeks. Wegovy, and its sister drug Ozempic, have rocketed to popularity in 2022 because...

Yesterday, Chaya Raichik, the woman behind the vital @LibsofTikTok account, appeared on Tucker Carlson’s Fox Nation show, where she discussed the work that she does to expose radical LGBTQ activists and, in particular, their targeting of children. Well, let the record show that Alejandra Caraballo, online safety expert and clinical instructor at the Harvard Law Cyberlaw Clinic, was absolutely disgusted with what transpired during Carlson’s interview with Raichik. According to Caraballo, it was one of the most bigoted interviews she’s ever heard in her life: Chaya Raichik went on Tucker Carlson and said the "LGBTQ community has become this cult…...

OAKLAND, Calif. (CNS) — Citing rising operating costs, declining enrollment and an increased need for institutional aid, officials at Holy Names University in Oakland said the school will close at the end of the academic year in May. Efforts to partner with another institution to keep the 154-year-old university open were unsuccessful, said Steven Borg, chairman of the school’s board of trustees. The school was founded by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. “While we’ve had interest in long-term collaboration with potential partners, we do not have the type of interest that would sustain HNU in...

At least 28 people in Erie County, New York, have died during the storm, said county executive Mark Poloncarz Father Paul Seil experienced a Christmas unlike any other in his 67 years of life in Buffalo, New York. In the midst of the multiday blizzard that paralyzed parts of western New York, Father Seil, chaplain for the Buffalo Fire Department, had to evacuate the rectory at his parish in the city's Old First Ward neighborhood on Christmas Eve, then spent the night aboard the department's fire boat and celebrated a short Mass Christmas morning for crewman Jack Kelleher. Finally, the...

The Constitutional Court of Ukraine ruled today that the bill calling for the forced renaming of churches or religious organizations associated with organizations in Russia is in line with state constitution. Although it has been legally registered as the “Ukrainian Orthodox Church” for 30 years, there have been attempts at least since 2018 under President Poroshenko to forcibly rename the UOC as the “Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine,” although these attempts have been repeatedly blocked by Ukrainian courts. It is well known that renaming the Church is simply laying the foundation to seize churches and outright ban the Ukrainian Church,...

A retired Massachusetts schoolteacher was charged with murder last week after being accused of poisoning her boyfriend’s coffee shakes with antifreeze. Judy Church, 64, of Salisbury, appeared briefly in court on Friday, one day after she was arrested on suspicion of poisoning Leroy Fowler, 55, with ethylene glycol, WCVB reported. Church called emergency services shortly after 8 p.m. Nov. 11 to report that Fowler was in “medical distress,” according to records obtained by NBC Boston. Explaining to dispatchers that her boyfriend “must have ingested something,” Church alleged that he was “pulling the bedroom apart, and had a bloody nose.”...

He had made it through four years of denials and appeals, and Robert Heard was finally before a Social Security judge who would decide whether he qualified for disability benefits. Two debilitating strokes had left the 47-year-old electrician with halting speech, an enlarged heart and violent tremors. There was just one final step: A vocational expert hired by the Social Security Administration had to tell the judge if there was any work Heard could still do despite his condition. Heard was stunned as the expert canvassed his computer and announced his findings: He could find work as a nut sorter,...

The fraud and money laundering case against FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried was reassigned to a new judge after the formerly appointed judge recused herself over a possible conflict of interest. Judge Ronnie Abrams of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York removed herself from the case last week because her husband is a law partner in a firm that worked with FTX previously. In Abrams' place comes Judge Lewis Kaplan, who has presided over a number of high-profile cases in recent years, including a defamation lawsuit brought against former President Donald Trump by E. Jean Carroll....

Libs of TikTok creator Chaya Raichik said in a video released by Fox Nation’s “Tucker Carlson Today” on Tuesday that some members of the LGBTQ community were “evil” people in a cult who want to “groom kids.” Carlson asked, “What is going on here? Do you have any theories?” Raichik said, “I think there’s something so unique about — the LGBTQ community has become this cult, and it’s so captivating. And it pulls people in so strongly, unlike anything we’ve ever seen. And they brainwash people to join, and they convince them of all of these things. And it’s really,...

A 2017 Pew Research article highlighted an interesting trend among Americans. Between 2012 and 2017, there was a decline in those who identified as both “religious and spiritual” (from 59 to 48%) and a corresponding increase in those who identified as “spiritual but not religious” (from 19 to 27%). Fast forward to 2021, and an Associated Press-NORC Center poll found an acceleration in that trend. Researchers found among respondents that “[a]bout 12% describe themselves as religious and spiritual and 28% as spiritual but not religious” with the plurality not associating with either religion or spirituality. When describing the attractiveness of a...

A “significant miscount” of hundreds of votes has been discovered in the recount results for Trump-Endorsed Abe Hamadeh’s statewide Attorney General’s race. Hamadeh was only down by 511 votes against Mayes out of more than 2.5 million ballots cast in the Attorney General race. The Gateway Pundit reported that on Election Day in Maricopa County, over 50% of tabulators and printers failed the moment that polls opened, causing voters to be turned away from the polls and creating long wait times of four hours or more. According to cybersecurity expert Clay Parikh’s testimony in Kari Lake’s election lawsuit, this was...
