WASHINGTON — Marijuana activists joined by well-known rappers plan to engage in “civil disobedience” outside the White House and Democratic National Committee offices Monday to push President Biden to honor his campaign pledge to free “everyone” in prison for marijuana after he issued limited clemency this month. The activists say Biden’s Oct. 6 mass pardon of about 6,500 people charged federally with pot possession was “misleading” because it didn’t free any of the roughly 2,700 people in federal prison for marijuana dealing. “There’s quite a bit of outrage, actually, in the cannabis community about what just went down,” said Adam...

Hundreds of thousands of people in central and western Ukraine woke up on Saturday to power outages and periodic bursts of gunfire, as Ukrainian air defense tried to shoot down drones and incoming missiles. Russia has intensified its strikes on power stations, water supply systems and other key infrastructure across the country, the latest phase of the war as it nears the eight-month mark. Ukraine's air force said in a statement Saturday that Russia had launched “a massive missile attack" targeting “critical infrastructure,” hours after air raid sirens blared across the country. It said that it had downed 18 out...

Several years ago, an experiment was done in which three American families were taken to a remote part of the Midwest and left to survive with few belongings and 19th century technology (horse-drawn plows, etc.) for a year. As I recall, two families were able to persevere through the year without being rescued, and at the end of it, they returned to their twentieth-century lives, with video games, TV, etc. When interviewed a year after the end of the experiment, almost to a person the family members agreed that the year "in the past" had been very difficult, but they...

On this date in 1789, two working stiffs literally became stiffs for a noteworthy bread riot during the French Revolution’s early days. Ah, 1789. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times … it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness; it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair. And we know how all that ends. Just three months after the Bastille was stormed, France was merely pregnant with its coming Terrors. The Revolution was in its “moderate stage”. Some moderation. The tumbrils may not have been running...

ISTANBUL (Reuters) – Social media companies are unlikely to fully abide by Turkey’s new law requiring them to remove “disinformation” content and share user data with authorities, analysts say, raising the spectre of possible platform disruptions before elections next year. Facebook, Twitter, Google and others are required to fully comply with the law by next April or face possible advertising bans and eventually cuts to their bandwidth, posing a dilemma for the companies before elections set for June. Analysts and consultants said the companies have global privacy standards they are unlikely to breach in Turkey as that could set dangerous...

New York City Mayor Eric Adams touted the tent city he is subsidizing as "a model for America's future. The cost of traditional living quarters in our city has gone beyond what the average person can afford. The facility on Randall's Island has most of the comforts of home. The migrants staying there are given three meals a day, fluff-and-fold laundry service and an array of entertainment including TV and video games. When combined with the free medical care and cell phones provided by the federal government it's a viable lifestyle." Photos of the insides of the compound show an...

Centennial School Board candidate Jessica Schwinn suggested white people who quote Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. are racist and accused them of advocating for white supremacy. Schwinn called a “family meeting” in an undated TikTok video to reprimand white people, calling them racist and uninformed. They are “upholding” white supremacy, she said. Schwinn is running for school board with a slate of candidates calling themselves “4Centennial,” which includes Andrew Meyer, Laura Gannon, and Kara Schmitz. The Centennial School District encompasses Blaine, Centerville, Circle Pines, Lexington, and Lino Lakes. The text introducing the video reads: “ATTN: white people: Family meeting time....

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russian-installed authorities in Ukraine told all residents of the city of Kherson to leave “immediately” Saturday ahead of an expected advance by Ukrainian troops waging a counteroffensive to recapture one of the first urban areas Russia took after invading the country. In a post on the Telegram messaging service, the pro-Kremlin regional administration strongly urged civilians to use boat crossings over a major river to move deeper into Russian-held territory, citing a tense situation on the front and the threat of shelling and alleged plans for “terror attacks” by Kyiv. Kherson has been in Russian hands...

According to a new report, Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, Arizona’s Chief Elections Officer, has spent almost no time in her office while campaigning for Governor. Katie Hobbs’ job is to administer secure and accurate elections. This new report came one day after it was discovered that an “error” left as many as 6,000 voters incorrectly flagged as not having proof of citizenship on file and sent an incorrect ballot. This also comes after Hobbs’ failure in the Arizona Primary Elections, where Pinal County RAN OUT of only Republican ballots, leading GOP voters to be turned away from the...

WASHINGTON – Statewide, Rep. Ilhan Omar is an unpopular member of Minnesota’s congressional delegation and Rep. Betty McCollum and Sen. Tina Smith enjoy high favorability rating, according to a new MinnPost/Embold Research poll. Twenty-seven percent of the statewide poll’s respondents said they viewed Omar, D-5th District, favorably, while 57% said they viewed her unfavorably. By calculating the difference between the favorable and unfavorable percentages, pollsters come up with a net positive or negative score for politicians. In Omar’s case, the negative 30-point gap was the widest of any Minnesota politician included in the poll. That’s a higher unfavorable rating than...

I found this site helpful in my choices as I voted. I did also look up these people prior to finding this site and they were all conservatives that I saw. In Arizona we have voter ID and early voting mail in ballots. I am now looking up the judges as I go through my ballot wanted to pass on some information for Arizona voters who don't know about the judges.

Luke 13:1-9 Friends, today’s Gospel includes the parable of a fig tree that bears no fruit. This is a standard trope in the theological literature of Israel: the tree that bears no fruit is evocative of the moral person who bears no spiritual fruit. Every single person has a mission: to be a conduit of the divine grace into the world. Planted in God—think of Jesus’ image of the vine and the branches—they are meant to bring forth the fruits of love, peace, compassion, justice, and nonviolence. And notice that this should be effortless. The closer God gets, the more alive...

Some of the classified documents recovered by the FBI from former US President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home and private club included highly sensitive intelligence regarding Iran and China, people familiar with the matter told The Washington Post on Friday. If shared with others, the people said, such information could expose intelligence-gathering methods that the United States wants to keep hidden from the world. At least one of the documents seized by the FBI describes Iran’s missile program, according to these people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe an ongoing investigation. Other documents described highly sensitive intelligence work...
