A man who may have been attempting to ride a Jet Ski from Pompano Beach to the Bahamas is missing, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said. Authorities are trying to find the 52-year-old man, Charles Walker, who was last seen about 5 p.m. Friday in Pompano Beach in the 3200 block of Northeast 16th Street, a community near the beach just north of the 14th Street bridge. Walker was attempting to ride a Jet Ski personal watercraft to Bimini in the Bahamas, his family told the sheriff’s detectives.

Once unthinkable, mobile phones could go dark around Europe this winter if power cuts or energy rationing knocks out parts of the mobile networks across the region. European Union countries are trying to ensure communications can continue even if power cuts end up exhausting back-up batteries installed on the thousands of cellular antennas spread across their territory. Europe has nearly half a million telecom towers and most of them have battery backups that last around 30 minutes to run the mobile antennas. PTS is financing the purchase of transportable fuel stations and mobile base stations that connect to mobile phones...

President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that "all mistakes" made in a call-up to reinforce Russia's military operation in Ukraine should be corrected, his first public acknowledgment that the "partial mobilisation" he announced last week had not gone smoothly. There have been widespread public expressions of discontent from officials and citizens over the way the mobilisation has been handled, including complaints about enlistment officers sending call-up papers to clearly ineligible men. Thousands of men have fled Russia to avoid a draft that was billed as enlisting those with military experience and required specialities but has often appeared oblivious to individuals'...

Since being named special counsel in October 2020, John Durham has investigated or indicted several unscrupulous anti-Trump informants. But he has spared the FBI agents who handled them, raising suspicions he's letting investigators off the hook in his waning investigation of misconduct in the Russiagate probe. In recent court filings, Durham has portrayed the G-men as naive recipients of bad information, tricked into opening improper investigations targeting Donald Trump and obtaining invalid warrants to spy on one of his advisers. But as the cases against the informants have gone to trial, defense lawyers have revealed evidence that cuts against that...

From the pull of the trigger, roughly 24 seconds elapsed before forward spotters heard the telltale plunk of a 422-grain copper bullet piercing the thin metal target. The shooter was 4.4 miles away, a distance so great, the Earth’s rotation came into play. It was a new world record for a rifle shot, set by the Jackson-based Nomad Rifleman team led by Schott Austin and Shepard Humphries. The shot was made with a custom-built rifle chambered for the .416 Barrett cartridge. During a Zoom interview Tuesday with Cowboy State Daily, Humphries declined to identify the team member who made the...

“They ended up parked off the coast in areas that were near other areas where we’ve seen them do amphibious assault training before with commercial ferries,” Shugart told USNI News. “The numbers were bigger than we’ve seen before.” The roll-on roll-off (RoRo) ferry has been identified as Bo Hai Heng Tong, a 15,000-ton multipurpose cargo ship. The ferry’s internal parking ‘lane’ is 1.6 miles long and three meters wide, spread across three decks. This translates into a vehicle cargo capacity that’s almost three times that of a San Antonio-class amphibious warship (LPD-17), Shugart said. “AN LHA or LPD spends a...

Friends, today we celebrate the Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael. When the existence of God is widely doubted, it just seems unscientific to believe in spiritual beings. And yet, they are prominently mentioned in the Bible; they are amply discussed by the Church Fathers; and the Catechism of the Catholic Church boldly reaffirms the existence and activity of angels.Do you remember how, a few years ago, there was an enormous interest in the culture in angels? One of my favorite stories had to do with a man who was flying a single-engine plane during a severe storm. At...

Eighty-four-year old Joan Jacobson never imagined she would be shot when she knocked on the door of a Michigan couple’s home, hoping to convince them not to vote for local pro-abortion ballot proposal. Sharon Harvey answered the door and quickly became “hostile, belligerent, and antagonistic” when she learned Jacobson’s mission, according to David Kallman, Jacobson’s attorney with the Great Lakes Justice Center. A social media account that appears to be Harvey’s features content strongly pro-abortion and heavily critical of Republicans. She did not immediately respond to requests for comment from The Daily Signal. In a Thursday phone interview with The...

Major brands are weighing the option of boycotting Twitter after a Reuters investigation found their ads appeared next to tweets soliciting child pornography, while the leftist tech company insists it has “zero tolerance” for child exploitation. Some brands, including Dyson, Mazda, Forbes, and PBS Kids have already suspended marketing campaigns on Twitter, according to the report. A Reuters review of data from cybersecurity firm Ghost Data found ads for major brands appearing on Twitter alongside tweets that sought or promoted child pornography, including one user who tweeted “trading teen/child” content, as well as “13+” content and “young looking nudes.” Such...

Sen. Mitt Romney’s (R-UT) decision not to endorse Sen. Mike Lee’s (R-UT) reelection bid has infuriated Senate Republicans and conservative activists. Romney, Utah’s junior senator, has declined — and even refused — to endorse Lee’s reelection bid. Lee is the senior senator from Utah. Senate Republicans are becoming increasingly alarmed by the decision, noting that even though Senate Republicans may have their differences on policy, they typically stand united against Republican opponents. “I respect [Romney], and I understand that each state has its own dynamics, but I do not understand why he is remaining neutral,” one Republican senator said anonymously....

Wednesday’s decision by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals builds on a 2018 ruling involving the city of Boise, which found a person cannot be punished for sleeping in public if there’s nowhere else for them to go. A federal appeals court Wednesday upheld a ruling that found the city of Grants Pass in southern Oregon violated the constitutional rights of people experiencing homelessness through a series of ordinances designed to prevent sleeping outside on public property. In a 2-1 decision, judges on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals largely upheld a 2020 injunction issued by U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark Clarke,...

Protests continue to roil Iran after the shocking death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman arrested by the morality police for an “improper hijab,” who is widely believed to have been beaten to death while in custody of the guards. Despite a crackdown that has so far claimed at least 76 lives, Iranians are not ready to back away and are raising their voices, more strongly than ever, demanding the abolition of the vice squads and the annulment of the hijab mandate. No apologies have been offered by the authorities, no resignations extended, and the Ministry of Interior, tasked with...

Conservative radio host Mark Levin ripped apart President Joe Biden’s insane climate change agenda that has hamstrung American energy production and obliterated billions in taxpayer dollars. The Great One ripped Biden’s United Nations speech where the president was “lecturing about climate change” while drooling over his supposed green achievements like the $369 billion in climate spending he signed under the misleadingly named “Inflation Reduction Act.” Levin wasted no time mocking Biden for his phony display of eco-expertise in his speech during the Sept. 27 edition of LevinTV: “[Biden’s a] scientist. He’s a climatologist, a meteorologist, a physicist, an astrologist. He’s...

Politico reported that Massachusetts Democratic lawmakers have composed a letter to Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg urging him to launch a federal investigation into Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., for relocating migrants from his state to Martha’s Vineyard. The lawmakers have asked Buttigieg to find out whether DeSantis violated the department’s rules by allegedly misleading migrants in order to get them to board the planes to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts earlier this month. The Democrats’ push to investigate DeSantis comes as the Florida governor is dealing with the massive damage caused by Hurricane Ian to his state this week. Multiple outlets...

High-dose folic acid is protective against congenital malformations if the mother is at particular risk of having a child with congenital malformations. Treatment with antiseizure medication in pregnancy is associated with risk of congenital malformations in the children, and women with epilepsy are therefore often recommended a supplementary high dose of folic acid (4–5 mg daily) before and during pregnancy. However, some studies have raised concern that folic acid can increase the risk of cancer not only in the mother, but in the child when exposed during pregnancy. "We found an increased risk of childhood cancer if the child was...
