On Sunday, it was the turn of MSNBC analyst Cynthia Alksne to display her lack of the irony gene. On Jonathan Capehart's Sunday show, Alksne began by accusing a federal judge of "pandering" to Trump by indicating that she was inclined to grant his request for a special master regarding documents at Mar-a-Lago. But just moments later, Alksne slobbered over Biden, exclaiming, "isn't he the greatest!?" That was in regard to Biden having taken a shot at Trump's assertion that he had declassified documents. Biden mocked Trump, telling a reporter that he had declassified "everything in the world." So who's...

About 9:20 p.m. Friday, a 50-year-old man was shot and killed in East Garfield Park while inside a restaurant. Two hours earlier, Randal Wilson, 65, was standing near the front of a residence about 7:20 p.m. Early Saturday, an 18-year-old man was shot to death while on a front porch of a residence in Chatham on the South Side. A resident of the home found the man with multiple gunshot wounds to the body and head after hearing "a loud disturbance" from outside around...

Satirist Sol Luckman defines “banana republic” in his irreverent glossary, The Angel’s Dictionary, as a “lawless society where the monkeys rule.” Looking around the United States today, it’s hard to say we don’t fit his meaning. Nearly 80% of Americans believe we live under a two-tiered system of justice. Likewise, in Gallup’s recent survey of Americans’ confidence in U.S. institutions, it notes, “This year’s poll marks new lows in confidence for all three branches of the federal government — the Supreme Court (25%), the presidency (23%) and Congress.” Of sixteen institutions tested, confidence in the U.S. Congress sits at the...

Billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk, who has fathered 10 children, said on Monday the world needs to "make more babies" -- and keep digging for oil. The richest man on the planet, who has repeatedly warned that low birth rates posed a "danger" to civilization, said ahead of an energy conference in Norway that the world is facing a "baby crisis". Asked about the greatest challenges facing the world, Musk cited the transition to renewable energies but also said the birth rate was "one of my favourite... things to be concerned about." "We don't want the population to drop so...

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. (Reuters) - The message from the world's top finance chiefs is loud and clear: rampant inflation is here to stay and taming it will take an extraordinary effort, most likely a recession with job losses and shockwaves through emerging markets. The complication is that central banks for the most part appear to have only limited control. For one, high energy prices, a function of Russia's war in Ukraine, is creating a supply shock on which monetary policy has little effect. Copious spending by governments, also outside central bank control, exacerbates the problem. One study presented at Jackson...

Social media, as we currently have experienced it in the COVID-19 era, mostly exists to police thought and insist on uniformity of opinion on all COVID issues. That’s been the overarching principle that has governed since March of 2020 in this country. The "experts" in science and medicine at the CDC and the NIH made a determination about what the COVID science was and then attempted to destroy anyone who challenged that consensus opinion by deploying their assets in the mainstream media. The government, in conjunction with major tech companies and the media, has colluded to censor anyone who has...

WASHINGTON, Wednesday, Aug. 27, 1862. The unsuccessful raid of the rebel cavalry, under Gen. STUART, upon the line of the Orange and Alexandria Railroad, last Friday night, was followed upon Tuesday night with a more successful result. A force of about one thousand men, under STUART, succeeded to reaching the railroad, Tuesday night last, at a point one mile north of Catlett's Station, where the road crosses Cedar Creek, and after a very brief skirmish with the infantry guard, and dispersing a small force of our cavalry, who were on scouting duty, deliberately proceeded to burn the new bridge across...

The FBI told a federal magistrate judge that it intended to open hundreds of safe deposit boxes seized during a March 2021 raid in order to inventory the items inside - but new evidence shows that federal agents were plotting all along to use the operation as an opportunity to forfeit cash and other valuables. Federal agents failed to disclose those plans to the federal magistrate judge who issued the warrant for the high-profile raid of U.S. Private Vaults, a private business in Beverly Hills, California, that had been the subject of an FBI investigation since at least 2019. When...

People need to be 'less squeamish' about drinking water taken from sewage treatment plants, the head of the Environment Agency has said. Water companies are planning "toilet-to-tap" systems, also known as water recycling, to turn sewage from lavatories into drinking water by treating it. By 2030, toilet water could be deposited into rivers near treatment plants so it can be collected and processed as drinking water. Writing in the Sunday Times, Sir James Bevan said the "unpopular" move would help protect the UK's water supply.
