A study of persons with incident atrial fibrillation (AF) has found that AF after noncardiac surgery is common and comprises 13 percent of all new AF diagnoses. Postoperative AF is also associated with similar risk for stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) and death as AF unrelated to surgery. AF occurring after noncardiac surgery may be triggered by perioperative stress and systemic inflammation in patients with predisposing comorbidities. For those who develop AF within 30 days of surgery, AF often recurs during subsequent follow-up and carries increased risks for thromboembolism and death compared with patients who had surgery but did...

A police officer in the Russian-occupied city of Kherson was killed on Wednesday by an explosive device planted by the Ukrainian "resistance movement" and another one was injured, Ukraine's defence ministry said. "The resistance movement clears Kherson of traitors," the ministry's defence intelligence directorate said a statement. The device was set off by radio control on a street just north of the city centre, it said. On Saturday, the directorate urged citizens in the Kherson...

They are doing it all wrong. The UN, WEF, and other Satanic organizations are pushing the world to eat bugs, worms, maggots, and other insects instead of real food. They have been encountering overwhelming resistance because their messaging is completely wrong. Instead to trying to convert the world population to eat bugs and stuff by government edict, they should use the tools that have proved to be effective in the past. WEF, UN and others should enlist and hire Hollywood elites, top athletes, famous politicians, and wealthy people to consume the bugs and stuff at exclusive functions. The Marxist State...

80 percent of young adults still live within 100 miles of where they spent their teenage years. In my family, moving long distances is the norm. My mother was born and raised in Honolulu, where her grandmother had moved during the Great Depression from a sleepy upstate New York town on Lake Ontario. (You can read all about it in a novel my mom just published.) As adults, she and my dad left Hawaii for, of all places, New Hampshire, where my brother and I grew up. (“Why would you leave paradise for the frozen reaches of New Hampshire?” one...

The Biden administration has formally asked Moscow to make a deal aimed at bringing home WNBA basketball star Brittney Griner and former U.S. Marine Paul Whelan, both of whom are imprisoned in Russia on dubious charges. Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed Wednesday that U.S. officials presented Russia with a “significant proposal” weeks ago relating Ms. Griner and Mr. Whelan, but declined to confirm reports that the Biden administration is proposing to swap the two for notorious Russian arms dealer Victor Bout, who is in prison in the United States. WASHINGTON (AP) — Gun makers have taken in more than $1 billion from selling AR-15-style guns over the past decade, at times marketing them as a way for young men to prove their masculinity, even as the number of mass shootings increases, according to a House investigation unveiled Wednesday. The weapons have been used in massacres that have horrified the nation, including one that left 10 people dead at a grocery store in Buffalo and another where 19 children and two teachers were shot to death in Uvalde, Texas. The Committee on Oversight and Reform said some ads mimic popular...

Expect to soon hear a lot about a previously obscure "insurrection" clause in Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution as we approach midterm elections and leading into the 2024 presidential contest. The clause was adopted as a compromise following Senate rejection of an earlier proposal to bar ex-Confederates from voting until 1870, stating:"No Person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer...

“I have notified CNN of my intent to file a lawsuit over their repeated defamatory statements against me,” Trump said in a statement received by PJ Media. “I will also be commencing actions against other media outlets who have defamed me and defrauded the public regarding the overwhelming evidence of fraud throughout the 2020 Election. I will never stop fighting for the truth and for the future of our Country!” Trump has long maintained that, if not for widespread election fraud, he would have won the 2020 election, and the mainstream media (which also pushed the false claims that Trump...

Gun makers defended their product on Wednesday during a tense House hearing on mass shootings, saying 'murders are responsible' for the deaths. Democrats revealed American gun manufacturers earned more than $1 billion from the sale of AR-15-style semiautomatic weapons over the last decade, as lawmakers grilled gun makers after a recent series of mass shootings led to multiple deaths in Uvalde, Texas; Buffalo, New York; and Highland Park, Ill. Marty Daniel, chief executive officer of Daniel Defense - which made the gun used by the shooter to kill 19 school children and two teachers in Uvalde, Texas - defended his...

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky and his wife Olena Zelenska have sparked a strong reaction online, after posing for a Vogue photoshoot in the midst of their nation's ongoing fight against invading Russian troops. With more than 150 days having passed since Russian President Vladimir Putin's fighters entered neighboring Ukraine, the couple posed for the U.S. edition of the fashion bible in a series of shots taken by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz. While glamorous shots show the two hugging one another while seated at a table, another shows the first lady sitting on the grand staircase of a building filled with...

The New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ended an injunction from a lower court allowing mask mandates in Texas schools. This came after families challenged an executive order from Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) prohibiting mask mandates in schools. Last year, Abbott issued an executive order prohibiting government entities from mandating masks — including counties, cities, school districts, public health authorities and government officials. For public schools, he said, "no student, teacher, parent, or other staff member or visitor can be required to wear a mask while on campus." Despite Abbott's executive order, many counties, cities and school districts...

I am curious about the legislative veto process. As it is now, if a bill passes the House it goes to the Senate. If it passes the Senate, it then goes to the President for his signature. What I would like to know is what is the veto override threshold, and if it is over ridden, will it become law? If after the mid term elections the Republicans take the House and the Senate, what margins will be required for a Biden veto to be over ridden and become law. Hope springs eternal!
