  • Academia Neglects Its Most Important Function: A Free Marketplace of Ideas

Academia in this country has entered a dark age, neglecting ts true function: A place for the sifting and winnowing of ideas. If you have been paying any attention at all to academia in this country, you know it has entered a dark age, neglecting what my alma mater once described as its function: A place for the sifting and winnowing of ideas. Today’s academic “marketplace” increasingly sells only one product, drives others from the agora with a variety of bullying actions, and threatens both the sellers and purchasers into silence about alternate products. Here’s an eye-opener to illustrate the...
  • Some Lessons from January 6 Committee Finale [blaming Trump both ways]

So what did we learn from the final “cliffhanger” season finale of the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the Capitol? Of course, the cast hopes to be renewed for another season and promised to be “baaack!” in September. Well, first, the Democrats of both parties are interested only in convincing people not to vote for Trump again. They’re not so much interested in improving security at the Capitol or improving communications or lines of cooperation among security agencies involved. Even the handling of the six permits issued by the U.S. Capitol could be improved, but...
  • Airlines tried shifting blame, but they’re the biggest cause of delays

Airline executives, under a barrage of criticism from the public, lawmakers and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, have sought to shift blame for flight troubles this summer onto the nation’s air traffic control system. But federal data shows that airlines themselves are the biggest reason for delays in recent months and bear responsibility for an unusually high share of cancellations. The numbers, reported by airlines and released this past week by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, also confirm the experiences of many passengers: 2022 has been a rough year for air travel. Federal transportation officials say 88,161 flights were canceled through...

He’s back — The possessed, murderous doll that terrorized moviegoers in the 1988 hit "Child’s Play," is now roaming the streets of an Alabama neighborhood as photos of a "real-life Chucky" have gone viral. The human Chucky seen in photos standing on the side of the road of a residential neighborhood in Pinson, Alabama, waiting for cars to pass, was actually a 5-year-old boy named Jackson, who brought fear and laughter to people in his community...

Change is coming to the Legislature next January. And it will be substantial in terms of new senators. Whether it is going to be significant in terms of policy decisions or partisan inclinations will remain uncertain until senators begin to tackle legislation and relate to a new governor who will be elected in November. Count 11 current senators who will be term-limited out of office at the end of the year, two who decided not to seek reelection, at least two who have been or will be elected to other offices and one who died during the fading days of...

A Maryland public school district asserts kids have the “right” to keep their in-school gender identities private from parents, according to Montgomery County Public School’s “Guidelines for Student” Gender Identity. The guidelines vow to “respect the right of students to keep their gender identity or transgender status private and confidential,” including parents who do not affirm the child’s perceived gender identity. When building a “Gender Support Plan,” educators are told to work with the student’s family only “if the family is supportive of the student” and their perceived identity, according to the district’s guidance.

(CNN) - Paying for some Bruce Springsteen tickets these days may be “Tougher Than The Rest.” That’s because Ticketmaster’s “dynamic pricing” has some seats reaching $4000 to $5000 a seat. The high prices are not going over well. “I’m sure you won’t see this @springsteen but you or your management need to have a word with the abhorrent criminals running @Ticketmaster who are charging exorbitant amounts to see you in concert,” one person tweeted. “Please listen to your fans, nobody can afford these ridiculous ticket prices.” Writer John Semley tweeted that Springsteen should “write a song about a working man...

Russia said Sunday that its missile barrage on a Ukrainian port key to a freshly-inked grain export deal had targeted military infrastructure at the facility, after the attack sparked an outcry from Ukraine and its allies. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky denounced Saturday’s strike on the Odessa port — that came just one day after the warring sides struck a deal to resume exports blocked by the conflict — as “Russian barbarism”. Turkey helped broker the accord and said after the double cruise missile attacks that it had received assurances from Moscow that Russian forces were not responsible. But Russia’s foreign...

Former Vice President Al Gore has likened climate change deniers to the Uvalde cops who stood by and did nothing as a school massacre unfolded. In a Meet The Press interview that will air on Sunday, Gore told Chuck Todd: 'You know the climate deniers are really in some ways similar to all of those almost 400 law enforcement officers in Uvalde, Texas, who were waiting outside an unlocked door while the children were being massacred. Gore - worth an estimated $300 million thanks to his green investment fund Generation Investment Management - added: 'They heard the screams, they heard...

Texas is one of only 10 states with no limitations on campaign donations to candidates, and as a result, a few wealthy donors with strong religious views have an outsized influence on the government for approximately 30 million people. In a state known for its independence, Texas is usually at the forefront of legislation – and its conservative Republicans...

A New York man was released from jail without bail hours after he tried to stab Rep. Lee Zeldin (R., N.Y.), a foregone conclusion because of a bail reform law passed in 2019. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office in Rochester, N.Y., charged David Jakubonis with attempted second-degree assault and released him before his trial, according to a Thursday press release. Jakubonis, an Iraq war veteran who was inebriated, used a small weapon with two sharp prongs to assault Zeldin, telling the representative, "You're done," when he swung at him during a campaign speech for veterans in Perinton. "After being charged...

Former President Donald Trump Saturday hinted at a 2024 presidential run in a speech full of culture war rhetoric and attacks on his political enemies, including President Biden, the January 6 Committee and more. (snip) Teasing his own possible 2024 run, Trump said Saturday that he won the 2016 election, falsely claimed he won the 2020 election, and said, "now we may just have to do it again." "If I stayed home, if I announced that I was not going to run for office, the persecution of Donald Trump would immediately stop," Trump also said later in the speech. "But...

Defenders of federal officials, including President Biden, who declared one year ago that people who received the COVID-19 vaccines would not contract the disease argue "the science" changes over time. But the White House coronavirus response coordinator at the time the vaccines were developed and rolled out said in an interview Friday she wasn't surprised that people who were quadruple vaccinated, including Biden and Dr. Anthony Fauci, contracted the disease.

Everything about the left is equalizing differences. An attractive woman will attract a man, who many be willing to risks including marrying her in order to have sex with her. An unattractive woman does not get that same option of a man who will marry her if she gets pregnant. So, by having abortion legal, it removes that risk of her getting pregnant and increases her options of having sex with any man that would have sex with her. It's basically a tradeoff of getting a little bit of attention by agreeing to remove the risk of a permanent bond...
