At aphelion, Earth will be 94.51 million miles (152.1 million kilometers) away from the sun... Earth will be 1.67% farther from the sun than the mean Earth-sun separation, also known as an astronomical unit. (One astronomical unit is equivalent to 92.96 million miles (149.6 million km)). Earth will be closest to the sun — a moment dubbed perihelion — on January 4, 2023, when it will be 91.4 million miles (147.1 million km) away from the sun according to timeanddate(opens in new tab). Earth's orbit is not a perfect circle which is why we experience aphelion and perihelion. The degree...

"And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ. And he charged them that they should tell no man of him. And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him. But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked...

Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a serine protease and one of the most abundant proteins secreted by the human prostate epithelium. PSA is used as a well-established marker of prostate cancer. The involvement of PSA in several early events leading to the development of malignant prostate tumors has made it a target for prevention and intervention. It is thought that PSA cleaves insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3), providing increased local levels of IGF-1, leading to tumor growth. Separately, there are data that suggest an enzymatic regulatory role for dietary boron, which is a serine protease inhibitor. In this study we...

Pope presides over Zairean rite "marked by drum music, dancing, shouts of jubilation" — and the Traditional Latin Mass is to be abolished? Holy Mass with Pope Francis for Congolese Community in RomeIt's worth watching at various points to get a feel for what it's like: the Gloria... the Gospel... the Offering... Isn't all this a contradiction of TC and DD? Or are we now to believe that the Novus Ordo and the Zairean Rite are identical? What was that about "the Novus Ordo is the unique lex orandi of the Catholic Church"?Perhaps Pope Francis and the cardinals who...

Sultanbek Ziyayev, the head of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, told news website Daryo.uz that hospitals in Nukus were full of patients who had been wounded when protesters clashed with security forces. “Thousands of wounded have been hospitalized and are being treated,” he said, according to the website. Photographs from Nukus published on Sunday by another news website, Kun.uz, showed street barricades, burned trucks and a heavy military presence including armored personnel carriers. Uzbekistan is a tightly controlled former Soviet republic where the government clamps down hard on any form of dissent. It was the second...

The boy’s mother has shared his photo with us. She tells us he’s Camrynn Ray McMichael. “He loved playing football for MTV and basketball. He’s dedicated, never has missed a game, workout, practice or volunteering,” said his mother Kyrra. “Getting ready to go into 6th grade, but most of all he loved his little sister. He loved her more than anything.”

Vice President Kamala Harris was interviewed by Keke Palmer in New Orleans, Louisana over the weekend as part of Essence Festival, but the bright lights and official backdrop behind the two women couldn't distract from one problem: Louisiana was misspelled on the official signage. Yep, whether it was Essence Fest or the West Wing that had final approval over the backdrop, the typo went unnoticed by everyone...until it was too late. There, as Harris and Palmer talked about the state of the country (more on that later), was LOUSIANA in giant letters over the vice president like the midterms loom...

Because Independence Day always makes for a slow news weekend, that leaves room for looking at and thinking about other news stories that wouldn't normally make the grade at American Thinker. The one that caught my eye was the Daily Mail's huge photo essay showing the wedding of Charlotte Freud, one of Rupert Murdoch's granddaughters, to Luke Storey, a rapper. It was held in the exquisitely picturesque English Cotswold district, but the photos are a testament to the death of beauty in the modern era. If you like things that are quintessentially English, the Cotswold district is the place for...

The Democrat Party needs twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to run for the White House in 2024, according to a longtime Democrat consultant and pollster. Doug Schoen, who has advised high-profile Democrats such as former President Bill Clinton and Michael Bloomberg, wrote in an opinion-editorial entitled “Now more than ever, Democrats need Hillary Clinton” for The Hill: In light of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade — upending decades of precedent and revoking a constitutional right that American women have enjoyed for half a century — the case for Clinton’s candidacy is even clearer. … Whether or...

During an appearance on ABC’s “This Week,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas downplayed what has been panned as a lackluster effort by the administration at the U.S.-Mexico border. Mayorkas told anchor Martha Raddatz he thought the Biden administration was doing a “good job.” "These are remarkably distinct times, and we have a multifaceted approach, not only to work with our partner countries but to bring law enforcement to bear, to attack the smuggling organizations in an unprecedented way. We are doing so very much. "We are addressing this issue vigorously and aggressively, to address the amount of — the number...

A recent report stated that President Donald Trump was considering announcing his 2024 candidacy early. The fake news tried to spin it as he is doing it because he hasn’t been successful in endorsing people. From DNYUZ(Bias Warning):Republicans are bracing for Donald J. Trump to announce an unusually early bid for the White House, a move designed in part to shield the former president from a stream of damaging revelations emerging from investigations into his attempts to cling to power after losing the 2020 election. While many Republicans would welcome Mr. Trump’s entry into the race, his move would also exacerbate persistent divisions...

Democrat optimists may believe that Biden's travel to the Middle East will be a foreign policy success, which would impact Democrat chances of remaining in control of Congress. Israel and Jordan have important commercial shipping seaports in the Gulf of Aqaba. Tiran and Sanafir, islands in the Strait of Tiran, are strategic to international shipping between the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba. Egypt and Saudi Arabia each claim control of this strait. It is reported that Joe Biden is working behind the scenes to broker a deal that would transfer sovereignty of these islands from Egypt to Saudi...

A study reveals new insights into how gastric cancer develops and suggests a preventive treatment. Eunyoung Choi, Ph.D. identified for the first time that Trop2+/CD133+/CD166+ dysplastic stem cells are a key source of clonal evolution of dysplasia to multiple types of gastric cancer. Their investigation further showed that pyrvinium, a commonly prescribed treatment for intestinal pinworms, blocked regeneration of dysplastic stem cells by controlling the CK1a signaling protein in mouse models and in human organoids. "The dysplastic stem cells that we identified are de novo stem cells first present during carcinogenic transition of pre-cancerous metaplasia to dysplasia in both mouse...

The British parliament has convened for an emergency session to investigate the events of July 4th, 1776 in the colonies across the Atlantic. Sources indicate an illegal insurrection took place there that cost many lives. "Blimey! These cheeky colonists are quite literally — and I'm LITERALLY not exaggerating here — an existential threat to democracy!" said MP Peasley Peckinposh III to a chorus of "hear hears." Prime Minister Boris Johnson has directed the House of Commons and the House of Lords to form a committee that will hold televised hearings on the matter every night for at least 100 fortnights....

Researchers have found a significant difference in the gut microbiota of men with prostate cancer, compared with those who have benign biopsies. Although the finding is an association, it could partly explain the relationship between lifestyle effects and geographical differences in prostate cancer. Gut microbiota are the collection of microbes in the gastrointestinal tract and they affect processes and mechanisms in the body. The state of gut microbiota has been linked to many conditions, even in organs that are far from the intestines, but their role in prostate cancer is not understood. Professor Peter Bostrom used samples collected from patients...

Explanation: Near the horizon the full moon often seems to loom large, swollen in appearance by the famous Moon illusion. But time-lapse image sequences demonstrate that the Moon's angular size doesn't really change as it rises or sets. Its color does, though. Recording a frame about every 60 seconds, this image also shows how red the Sun can look while low on the horizon. The featured montage was taken from Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy, the day after June's Strawberry Moon, a full moon dubbed a supermoon due to its slightly larger-than-usual angular size. This Strawberry Supermoon is seen rising behind the...

RINO January 6 Committee vice chair Liz Cheney told ABC’s Jon Karl that the Republican Party cannot survive if Trump is the 2024 nominee.“Will the party survive in the way you’ve known it if Donald Trump is again chosen?” Jon Karl asked Cheney.“It can’t survive if he’s our nominee,” Cheney said. “I think that he can’t be the party nominee. I don’t think the party would survive that.”“Those of us who believe in Republican principles and ideals have a responsibility to try to lead the party back to what it can be and to reject so much of the toxin...

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Glenn Greenwald blasted former NBA star and CNN+ host Rex Chapman over the weekend for what Greenwald called “a repulsive outburst of overt racism” directed against Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. According to Greenwald, Chapman had suggested that Thomas, who has been harshly criticized by liberals for being one of six justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade last month, “isn’t really black because he doesn’t go to NBA games.” Greenwald then accused Chapman of depicting Thomas as a “race traitor” for marrying a white woman.
