(Reuters) -U.S. President Joe Biden on Wednesday will address his efforts to reduce the nation's budget deficit, noting that it is expected to fall for the second straight year amid a recovering economy and waning emergency spending, according to the White House. Biden and his fellow Democrats have come under fire from Republicans for a historic rise in inflation that some critics say stems from overspending in Washington amid the COVID-19 pandemic as well as global supply constraints. He will discuss "his commitment to reducing the deficit going forward while making critical investments to boost the capacity of our economy...

The Department of Homeland Security is dismayed by the uproar over its new Disinformation Governance Board. DHS this week emphasized that the "internal working group," which has no "operational authority or capability," will focus on developing "best practices" to counter disinformation from foreign states and criminal organizations while protecting "free speech and other fundamental rights." Although Republicans who likened the board to an Orwellian Ministry of Truth were exaggerating, there are legitimate grounds for concern about the Biden administration's broader assault on speech it views as dangerous. Even if the DHS board's work does not amount to much, Americans are...

A ferocious wild turkey has been terrorizing residents in Washington, D.C. and Maryland while eluding multiple agencies who are on its trail. Several of these attacks were reported on the Anacostia River Walk Trail near the D.C.-Maryland border. The attacks have become such an issue that authorities posted a sign with a picture of a wild turkey alongside the trail: "Caution! Do not approach wildlife." Dan Rauch with the Department of Energy and Environment told D.C.’s FOX 5 there...

Dear friends, being May 4th and if you can get past the title and read this full post you will be truly amazed at what the Word of Almighty God has to say about His precious Word, which is established FOREVER (Psalm 119:89, 144, 152, 160, 138:2, John 17:17)! One of the things that I have been taught from the very beginning in helping children, adults and people in general how to learn a particular biblical truth is to use what they mentally know by experience or association. I have found by using what people know that it is easy...

According to U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data,1 more than 1 million excess deaths — that is, deaths in excess of the historical average — have been recorded since the COVID-19 pandemic began two years ago, and this cannot be explained by COVID-19. Deaths from heart disease, high blood pressure, dementia and many other illnesses rose during that time.2 “We’ve never seen anything like it,” Robert Anderson, CDC’s head of mortality statistics, told The Washington Post in mid-February 2022.3According to University of Warwick researchers, “the scale of excess non-COVID deaths is large enough for it to be seen...

The launch was the latest in a string of sanctions-busting North Korean weapons tests so far this year, and came after US and South Korean officials warned Pyongyang was preparing to resume nuclear testing. “One ballistic missile fired by North Korea today at 1203 (0303 GMT) from around Sunan towards the East Sea (Sea of Japan) was detected,” South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement. “Currently,...

Speaker Nancy Pelosi went to the House floor Sept. 24, 2021, to express her support for a bill that would enshrine a "right" to abortion in federal law. "For years, radical restrictions on women's reproductive health freedoms have been pushed across the nation, with 2021 on track to be the worst legislative year for women's health rights," Pelosi said. "I come to this as a Catholic and a mother of five, in 6 years and 1 week, and the joy that all that meant to us," she explained. Under Pelosi's leadership, the House then voted 218 to 211 to pass...

The FBI and the Justice Department have overreached their authority and violated the First Amendment by secretly surveilling a media organization critical of the Biden administration, according to a journalist who's been the target of a sweeping government probe. In March, Project Veritas was notified by Microsoft, its electronic communications service provider, that for over a year the government had been secretly seizing and reviewing the media organization's emails and other electronic information through sweeping search warrants under non-disclosure orders, according to a motion filed by Paul Calli, the lawyer for Project Veritas founder James O'Keefe. Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) appeared in front of the U.S. Supreme Court building in Washington, DC, on Tuesday to stump about abortion to a crowd of hundreds of abortion advocates in the wake of Politico releasing a draft court opinion showing a decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Blumenthal, like several of his colleagues from the far-left flank of the Democrat Party, reignited calls for nuking the filibuster so that Senate Democrats could vote in favor of pro-abortion legislation by way of a simple Senate majority.

Schools are becoming indoctrination factories, trying to turn children against their country and their own parents' values. It's what the teachers unions intend. Amazingly, that's just fine with resident Joe Biden, who told a gathering of teachers and union bigwigs on April 27 that the kids are "yours when they're in the classroom." That wasn't just a Biden stumble. He repeated it for emphasis: "They are all our children ... They are not somebody else's children." Sorry, Joe. But parents have a right to know what their children are being taught, and to set limits. State legislators in at least...

...Israeli officials have said Jerusalem can send “plenty of items” to Kyiv that are more defensive, but air-defense systems, advanced weaponry and attack systems would not be sent, Haaretz reported. The increase in aid would be a “substantial step” compared with what Israel has already provided, and would be more symbolic and “not include substantial quantities of supplies” because of the aid already provided by the US and European countries, the report said. As part of Israel’s aid to Ukraine, Jerusalem also set up a field hospital in Lviv, and donated several armored, four-wheel-drive ambulances from Magen David Adom. Ties...

U.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)- As soon as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signaled he would support passage of a “Constitutional Carry” bill in the Sunshine State—perhaps during an upcoming special session—opponents ramped up a campaign of disinformation to include predictions of increased suicides to intimating armed law-abiding citizens will make the streets less safe. And the New York Post editorialized fearfully about the potential for increased violence if the Supreme Court rules within the next two months that New York State’s pistol licensing scheme requiring proof of “proper cause” to get a carry permit is unconstitutional.

....But if you strain your ears and concentrate really, really hard, you can detect a separate faint murmur of concern. Some of those on the right, who have been getting through the disaster that is the Biden administration by looking forward to the absolute bloodbath the 2022 midterms promise to be, are quietly voicing their fear that Roe v. Wade being overturned will energize the Left and hand the midterms over to the Democrats. No worries — Athena is here to allay your fears. Without further preamble, here are the factors which will blunt the political blowback that conventional wisdom...
