  • Lab findings suggest EGFR inhibitors may prevent rhabdomyosarcoma recurrence (Currently available therapy to be used concurrent with chemo)

    05/01/2022 1:22:52 PM PDT · by ConservativeMind · 1 replies
Rhabdomyosarcoma is a type of soft tissue cancer. Scientists studied the population of cells that persists after therapy, causing rhabdomyosarcoma recurrence. They found that these cells mirror an early developmental state that responds to EGFR inhibitors. The work presents a strategy for targeting the whole tumor that may apply to other pediatric cancers. Rhabdomyosarcoma is the most common type of soft tissue sarcoma in children. After patients complete therapy, cancer cells can persist. These cells later multiply, causing the disease to recur. When this cancer recurs after therapy, it is much more difficult to treat. "As a developmental biologist I...
  • Violence erupts in Paris as thousands of May Day protesters raise pressure on Macron

Police fired tear gas to push back black-clad anarchists who ransacked business premises in the French capital Paris on Sunday during May Day protests against the policies of newly re-elected President Emmanuel Macron. Thousands of people joined May Day marches across France inwhich they called for salary increases and for Macron to drop his plan to raise the retirement age. Most were peaceful but violence broke out in Paris, where police had made 29 arrests so far, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said on Twitter. Clashes with police broke out at the start of the march near La Republique Square and...

New analysis into the residue inside ancient ceramic vessels from 11th–12th century Jerusalem has found that they were potentially used as hand grenades.Previous research into the diverse sphero-conical containers, which are within museums around the world, had identified that they were used for a variety of purposes, including beer drinking vessels, mercury containers, containers for oil and containers for medicines. This latest research, led by Griffith University's Associate Professor Carney Matheson, confirmed that some vessels did indeed contain oils and medicines, and some contained scented oils, consistent with other recent research into the use of the vessels. However, his findings also revealed...

Former Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) and his wife were deep in debt but reportedly staying at an expensive Brooklyn hotel with an indoor pool, restaurants, and beautiful views. The New York Post reported Saturday: After leaving office four months ago, de Blasio and Chirlane McCray made a beeline from Gracie Mansion to the swanky New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge — where suites run from about $600 to $5,000 a night — and have been staying there ever since while their home in Park Slope, Brooklyn, undergoes renovations, according to hotel staffers and other sources.

I bought some new gadgets and products recently. I think the most interesting was the ‘Sushi Bazooka’. There are lots of these available, but they all work along the same lines and make it much easier to fill and roll Maki Sushi, California Roll, etc. It doesn’t always come out as perfect on the first try as some videos make it look, but with a little practice it’s great. 'How Daily' shows how it works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qe8GsJ3M4F0I was introduced to this type of sushi by a Korean friend who calls it ‘Kimbap’. She made it with imitation crab (but the little...

It has become depressingly common to read unrelenting attacks on free speech in the Washington Post and other newspapers. The anti-free speech movement has been embraced by Democratic leaders, including President Joe Biden, as well as academics who now claim “China was right” on censorship. However, a Time magazine column by national correspondent Charlotte Alter was still shocking in how mainstream anti-free speech views have become. Alter denounces free speech as basically a white man’s “obsession.” What is most striking about the column is Alter’s apparent confusion over why anyone like Musk would even care about the free speech of others....
  • A promising combination therapy for triple-negative breast cancer (Commonly available (and cheap) meds cyclophosphamide and CSFR1 Inhibitors (such as Gleevec) together let B and T cells enter tumors)

Researchers have identified a combination therapy for treating triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) that results in durable tumor regression in an animal model of the condition. The combination therapy attacked the tumor on two fronts. On one side, the chemotherapy drug cyclophosphamide eliminated tumor cells, while on the other front, another drug inhibited tumor-associated cells called macrophages, which block the body's immune response against the tumor. This two-front strategy effectively treated several highly aggressive TNBC primary tumors and metastasis. The team had previously shown in animal models that although treating the tumors with cyclophosphamide eliminated the cancer initially, the disease came...

Located 14 meters (45.9 feet) underground in Germany's Cologne, a 600 meter subterranean tunnel connects two historic sites – a Roman palace and the city's medieval Jewish quarter – in a new, underground Jewish Museum set to open soon.It looks like the tower of a castle, with stairs leading down the wall and a glimmer of black water below. This is the mikvah, the ritual bath of Cologne's medieval Jewish community. The museum, located close to Cologne's famous cathedral, is unlike any other. Called MiQua in reference to the mikvah, it will feature a 600-meter route from the ruins of...

The words edible and eatable are often used interchangeably but embedded within their respective definitions is a distinction that makes an important difference. Edible means “safe to eat,” whereas eatable means “pleasant to eat.” A variant of the word eatable is delicious, commonly defined as “highly pleasant to eat.” Delicious certainly sounds more enticing than highly eatable, a phrase nobody would use to compliment an exquisite meal crafted by a professional chef. We find such linguistic nuances pleasing. Whether the balance of calories a person consumes is edible, eatable, or delicious depends on where they sit on Maslow’s hierarchy of...

A RUSSIAN TV programme showed a simulation of a nuclear strike on the UK, as tensions over an atomic war grew. Moscow has repeatedly warned about the dire consequences Western countries could face if they continue to supply arms to Ukraine. On Thursdays edition of Channel One's 60 Minutes programme, the chairman of the nationalist Rodina party, Aleksey Zhuravlyov, suggested Russia could launch a Sarmat missile attack on the UK. Producers then cut to a map of Kaliningrad and seemed to suggest that missiles could be launched from the Russian enclave between Poland, Lithuania and the Baltic Sea. The implication...

The 21st century so far hasn’t been the best of times for America. First 9/11, then a financial crisis and deep recession, then a global pandemic without recent precedent. The economy has suffered, and politics has been upended. American self-confidence has been badly bruised, and public trust in institutions has plummeted. What can we do about it? That’s the question that John Cogan and Kevin Warsh, both policy veterans and Journal contributors, asked themselves in September 2020 when prompted by former secretary of state Condoleezza Rice. She had just taken over as director of Stanford University’s Hoover Institution, where both...

Despite their high status, Anglo-Saxon royalty didn't regularly feast on copious amounts of meat and fish. Rather, these medieval rulers dined primarily on vegetables, just like the commoners they ruled over, according to two new studies. In fact, social hierarchy did not have any bearing on the amount of meat consumed; both royalty and peasants chowed down on large amounts of meat only occasionally, the research revealed. It wasn't until the Vikings settled in what is now the United Kingdom in the ninth century and onward that meat became more common on the menu, the team reported. The findings are based on...

Wars and rumors of wars, a global economic collapse, hyperinflation, famine, pestilence, the decline of America, etc., are shaping up now. Here are some examples that recently made the news. One, concerning the decline of America and the coming Tribulation Period (God’s judgment of the nations): on Apr. 22, 2022, Canada Free Press posted an excellent article by Rev. Michael Bresciani titled “No, It’s Not the Economy Stupid—It’s the Raging Perversion, Moral Depravity, and Transgender Mutilation of Our Own Children.” Bresciani (editor...

Researchers working on the project have been canvassing the high mountain areas in Norway that are believed to be part of ancient passes—where people walked back and forth between valleys in the mountains and coastal areas—for the past 15 years. During that time, they have found a large number of artifacts, from horse bones to dung and horseshoes...A mountain guide found the shoe in 2019 in a part of a pass known as Horse Ice Patch... a lot of snow and ice in the area had melted, revealing the shoe and several other items. The guide contacted the researchers, who...
