Every time gas prices spike, the same questions get asked: Why are gas prices so high? Who’s to blame? What will bring them down? These aren’t terrible questions, and they’re logical in a country where the majority of people are car owners. But the fact that we keep having these questions, decade after decade, suggests they’re also insufficient. A better question may be: Why does gas price volatility have the power to cause so much pain? The answer, of course, is parked in America’s driveways. What this tells us is when it comes to costs, gas isn’t the crux of...

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he is tired of Western leaders repeatedly asking him for a wishlist of weapons for Ukraine. In an interview published Friday with The Atlantic, Zelenskyy said he is often frustrated by repetitive questions asked of him by Western leaders. "It's not interesting to answer the questions you already heard," Zelenskyy said, according to The Atlantic.

The book and movie “The Big Short” revolved around the 2005-2007 housing bubble driven by lending to borrowers with subprime credit (and little or no underwriting). As we know, Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers and other investment banks too large positions in subprime asset-backed securities (SABS) that became highly toxic once the demand for high-yield subprime ABS dried up. Fast forward to today. Mortgage originations by credit scores of 620 or less have shriveled while home price growth YoY is even higher than the subprime mortgage crisis of 2005-2007. So, is the US facing another “Big Short” scenario? Yes and no....

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - The Southern Poverty Law Center Mississippi state director, Waikinya Clanton, released a statement condemning Governor Tate Reeves’ proclamation of Confederate Heritage Month. “Despite every effort from the people of Mississippi to pave a new way forward, leaders like Governor Reeves remain fixated on undermining the public’s will for a brighter, better, and more inclusive Mississippi,” said Clanton. The entire statement is shown below. “It is unfortunate that the governor chooses to glorify the Confederacy—a traitorous government that fought against the United States for the right to enslave Blacks. Despite the historical vote to remove the Confederate...

Say what you will about la République française but, unlike America, its election operations are not a rusted malodorous sewer of brazenly corrupt practices. So the election was held, the votes were counted in hours, and the official result was known by 1am Paris time. There are no unmarked vans motoring the Dordogne or the Pas de Calais in the dead of night bearing additional votes sufficient to the need. That speaks well for any nation. Alas, not much else about yesterday does. The Top Three is as follows: Emmanuel Macron 27.6 per cent; Marine Le Pen 23.41 per cent;...

WASHINGTON - White House national climate adviser Gina McCarthy is expected to step down next month, a person familiar with her decision confirmed. McCarthy had initially expected to wrap up her service by the end of February, but she agreed to stay a bit longer, the person said. She is expected to return to her native Boston. In a tweet late Thursday, McCarthy pushed back against the reports. "Reports that I have resigned from my position as President Biden’s National Climate Advisor are simply inaccurate. We’ve made great progress these past 14 months, but we have much more work to...

In Eastern Ukraine, there’s supposed to be a cease-fire, but the fighting starts again every night. For two years, soldiers for the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic -- with the backing of Russia -- have fought the Ukrainian government to gain autonomy. Special correspondent Nick Schifrin reports from the front lines, in partnership with the Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting.

Police across the country have often been caught using excessive force during arrests and other confrontations. Even when such incidents are captured on video, officers are often able to escape punishment or other consequences. Such appears to be the case yet again. In a controversial ruling, a three-judge panel of the Fifth Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals ruled that an officer who admitted to twisting a teenage girl’s arms to cause her pain did not violate the law in his actions. The officer admitted to purposely hurting the teenage girl. _______________________ Martin ended up violently arresting the mother...

I was running a YouTube channel called "Professor 219" throughout 2021. This was 100% me, sitting at my desk at home, ranting into a webcam much like Dan Bongino, Ben Shapiro or Michael Knowles, regarding the stupidity, hypocrisy, corruption and generally unconstitutional behavior of the left, their political party and the media minions who serve them. I do teach in real life, but I'm not a professor. I teach gifted 13- and 14-year-olds for a Catholic diocese in an after-school enrichment program. I'm 62 years old, and I have a pretty strong amount of knowledge regarding a lot of different...

WASHINGTON - In late February we were all preoccupied with events elsewhere in the world - so you would be forgiven for having missed even a very interesting poll about U.S. politics. The poll, from YouGov, asked about the 2024 Democratic presidential primary; only 21% of Democratic-leaning voters said their choice was the incumbent Democratic president, Joe Biden. This is not normal. We've seen some evidence that Democrats aren't sold on nominating Biden for a second term. But lots of Republicans say the same about a repeat run for Donald Trump in 2024. Below are our latest rankings. 10. Alexandria...

The rest of the world is noticing the West’s pronoun madness, trans madness, grooming madness, and other evils, and is drawing the obvious conclusions. The deputy commander-in-chief for coordination of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), General Mohammad-Reza Naghdi, said in a recent interview on Iranian TV that Europeans were losing the sense of their own national identity, and that the Western lifestyle had placed European societies on the path to extinction. He could have said exactly the same thing about the United States of America. The March 31 exchange on Iran’s Ofogh TV began when an interviewer asked Naghdi:...

When Philadelphia’s health commissioner announced this week that the city’s indoor mask mandate would be reinstated as Covid-19 cases there rise, something unusual happened: Not a single other major U.S. city followed suit. Throughout the pandemic, local, state and federal precautions have followed a predictable pattern. As key Covid indicators, such as infections, hospitalizations and deaths, have gone up, so has the number of officials who have required masks, proof of vaccination or other measures to slow the rate of transmission of the coronavirus.

The Readings for the Easter Vigil recount the history of salvation by focusing on the various covenant stages throughout the Biblical storyline...I'll proceed to point out how all these covenants appear in various forms in the seven Old Testament readings that form the backbone of the Liturgy of the Word for the Vigil.1. The First Reading: In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless wasteland, and darkness covered the abyss, while a mighty wind swept over the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw how...

PITTSBURGH LANDING, Tenn., Monday, April 14. A force of four thousand men, on five transports, left this landing on Saturday night, accompanied by the gunboats Tyler and Lexington, and proceeded up the Tennessee River to a point near Eastport, Miss., where they landed, and proceeded inland to Bear Creek Bridge, and destroyed the two bridges on the Mobile and Ohio Railroad, one measuring 121 feet, and the other 210 feet in length. A cavalry force of 150 men was found there, who, after having four killed, "skedaddled" in the most approved Southern style. The expedition returned Sunday night, without having...

Multiple kindergarteners were left feeling loopy after sipping ready-to-drink Jose Cuervo margaritas that a young girl brought to her Michigan school and shared with her classmates.
