Along with the news that mega-billionaire Elon Musk had made an offer to buy Twitter in full came the predictable screams from leftists and others who can’t bear the thought of a free-speech champion owning their No. 1 means of censoring political opponents (even after tut-tutting for years that private companies can do whatever they want).Included in that group are the warmongers of the word, the chief of them being Washington Post opinion columnist and neocon Max Boot who wants you to please stop using that term. It seems like just yesterday that Boot was fist-pumping forever wars, supporting the...

If Elon Musk is indeed able to buy Twitter, the platform could look a lot different. In his first public, non-tweeted comments since the saga began, Musk addressed why he wants to buy the company, and changes he would want to bring about. “Twitter has become kind of the de-facto town square,” he said. “It's just really important that people have both the reality and the perception that they're able to speak freely within the bounds of the law.” In terms of specific changes, Musk said Twitter should open-source its algorithms and minimize the interventions it takes in policing content....

If there's one thing I'm NOT afraid of, it's being 'cancelled'. If being cancelled means me living in integrity as a human being who thinks for themselves, CANCEL ME TODAY! I repeat; I am not afraid. What I'm truly afraid of is existing in a world that forces me to submit to an ideology without question, otherwise I'm to be shamed (or pressured to shame myself) and cast out of the community. A world that tells me that because I inhabit a black body; I will forever be oppressed and at the mercy of some omnipresent monster called 'whiteness'. That...

Former President Donald Trump is reportedly planning to endorse Senate candidate JD Vance in the crowded and contentious Ohio primary race, NBC News reports. According to three individuals familiar with the matter, Trump has, in recent days, begun calling "donors and advisers" to get their opinion on a Vance endorsement, but "intense pressure" from other GOP campaigns has kept him at bay, NBC News writes. For example, Republican candidate Josh Mandel's campaign reportedly "hit the roof" upon hearing the news of Trump's expected decisions, one individual with knowledge of the discussions told NBC News.

A colossal simulation of the past two million years of Earth’s climate provides evidence that temperature and other planetary conditions influenced early human migration — and possibly contributed to the emergence of the modern-day human species around 300,000 years ago. The finding is one of many to come out of the largest model so far to investigate how changes in Earth’s movement have influenced climate and human evolution, published in Nature today. “This is another brick in the wall to support the role of climate in shaping human ancestry,” says Peter de Menocal, director of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution...

To get a sense of Trump’s power, look at the fate of Republican candidates he’s actively opposed. Anthony Gonzalez is retiring rather than face a challenger he couldn’t beat. Liz Cheney is in a world of trouble. Ditto Nancy Mace. Maybe Lisa Murkowski will be able to hold on because of the oddities of Alaska’s voting laws. (But maybe not.) Brian Kemp may be the exception who proves the rule. He has all the advantages of incumbency, and Trump still went all-in with his attempt to unseat him in a primary. So far, it hasn’t paid off. But the rule...

A Russian warship that was damaged by an explosion on Wednesday has sunk, Russia's defence ministry has said. Moskva, the flagship of Russia's Black Sea fleet, was being towed to port when "stormy seas" caused it to sink, according to a ministry message. The 510-crew vessel was a symbol of Russia's military power, and has led Russia's naval assault on Ukraine. Kyiv claims it struck the warship with its missiles, but Moscow has made no mention of an attack.

A week or so before the assembly, however, Thorne was approached by one – then multiple – Colorado citizens who knew him through his work with Randy Corporon and grassroots conservative groups on parental, health and electoral freedom issues. These citizens were disgusted with the party establishment picking winners and losers. They wanted a different choice than John Kellner, a name I’ve come to learn is synonymous with Country Club Republican. When Thorne finished speaking, George Brauchler jumped up to object to his status as a Republican. Brauchler nominated Kellner and, as his former boss, groomed him to succeed as...

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Governor Steve Sisolak launched the “Home Means Nevada” initiative Thursday morning by announcing a $500 million program for affordable housing in Nevada. It will be the single largest investment in affordable housing in the state’s history and will complement the $300.7 million earmarked by the Nevada Housing Division earmarked for affordable housing projects through its tax-exempt bonding authority.

While Elon Musk is trying to buy Twitter Inc., he’s no longer the company’s largest shareholder. Funds held by Vanguard Group recently upped their stake in the social-media platform, making the asset manager Twitter’s largest shareholder and bumping Mr. Musk out of the top spot. Vanguard disclosed on April 8 that it now owns 82.4 million shares of Twitter, or 10.3% of the company, according to the most recent publicly available filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The asset-manager increased its stake in the company at some point during the first quarter, according to the filings. Vanguard’s holdings...

Noted military historian Edward N Luttwak, who has penned numerous volumes on the grand strategies of empires, including that of the former Soviet Union, says that the Ukraine war will result in the political demise of Russian president and strongman Vladimir Putin due to a raft of reasons, including the prospects of an unwieldy occupation and the rising tide of discontent back home. Luttwak, a cold warrior now in his late 70s, had negotiated with Soviet generals and officials in his prime as an American interlocutor in the height of tensions between the United States and the USSR. He avers...

Republican gubernatorial candidate Charles Herbster and his campaign called accusations against him of sexual assault "libelous" and "100% false" in a statement Thursday afternoon, and accused political rivals Jim Pillen and Pete Ricketts of political dirty tricks. A report published Thursday by the Nebraska Examiner said eight women, including state Sen. Julie Slama, have alleged Herbster of sexual misconduct, with all of the incidents happening between 2017 and 2022. Slama confirmed the Examiner's account in a statement Thursday morning, saying she was touched inappropriately by Herbster during a Republican event in 2019.“I indirectly referenced the assault in a February 2022...

Florida became the latest Republican-led state to clamp down on abortion rights after Governor Ron DeSantis signed a law Thursday that bans the procedure after 15 weeks. Red states have launched a new wave of pro-life restrictions over the last year, as the Supreme Court weighs a historic challenge that could see federal protections on abortion rolled back completely. The Sunshine State's new law, which takes effect July 1, contains exceptions if the abortion is necessary to save a mother's life, prevent serious injury or if the fetus has a fatal abnormality. It does not make exceptions for rape, incest...

Florida governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill banning abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy on Thursday. The new legislation will go into effect on July 1. The Florida House voted 78-39 almost entirely along party lines to pass the law in February, while the Senate passed the bill in March. The bill allows exemptions for women who face life-threatening or serious injuries from pregnancy, or if the fetus has a fatal defect.
