To get a sense of Trump’s power, look at the fate of Republican candidates he’s actively opposed. Anthony Gonzalez is retiring rather than face a challenger he couldn’t beat. Liz Cheney is in a world of trouble. Ditto Nancy Mace. Maybe Lisa Murkowski will be able to hold on because of the oddities of Alaska’s voting laws. (But maybe not.)
Brian Kemp may be the exception who proves the rule. He has all the advantages of incumbency, and Trump still went all-in with his attempt to unseat him in a primary. So far, it hasn’t paid off. But the rule of thumb seems to be that Republican candidates can only survive Trump endorsing another candidate if they are willing to keep smiling and insisting that they love Trump, too.
What’s remarkable about Trump’s grip on the party is not only that he has maintained it despite his exit from the presidency and from (mainstream) social media—but that by some measures his standing has actually improved.
As of today, Trump’s favorable/unfavorable split is the best it’s ever been.

Why do they care about the GOP ?
Bulwark is all prog Dem again, after pretending to be conservatives for a few decades, in an entryist attempt to “reform” the movement from the inside.
Perdue has refused to do the minimum amount of work to win
They can’t reform what they don’t understand.
Kemp is an example all right. He’s been acting like he campaigned instead of total weasel. He just signed a 2A carry law so maybe he got enough of a head jerk to keep him straightish. But he still has a crooked election to clean up so we’ll see?

They don’t understand that their hysteria and overreaction to him gives him more credibility in the eyes of much of the public. If they manage to gin up an indictment, it will be even more so.
We don’t want someone the deep state like. If they hate him, we like him even more. If they hate him so much they fake up criminal charges and impeachments, we like him even more.
We here in Oklahoma have a huge bone to pick with DJT.
He allowed that SOB Gorsuch on the court. Gorsuch was chomping at the bit to make the McGirt ruling that has completly fucked up the Justice System. If you have Indian blood anything is a Federal Crime period.
When Stitt goes to visit DJT I hope he gives him an earfull.
the last line of the column is:
“...the idea that the party is growing to be independent of Trump seems less like analysis and more like wishcasting.”
Trump in a blowout victory in 2024...Regardless of who the Democrat misfits run, they’ll be swiftly KO’d by Trump. Bet the rent.
And 2023 is rapidly approaching.☺
Gee, it’s sure funny how voters respond when you promise them things that they have been demanding for decades, and then actually make a good faith effort to deliver on those promises once you get in office.
It’s almost like that inspires loyalty in the electorate. Crazy!
Well, the best part is, desperate as they are, even an indictment or conviction doesn’t disqualify Trump from becoming President again. Only an impeachment and conviction can do that, and Justice Roberts has already signaled that impeaching someone who is already out of office would be invalid.
So they literally have no way to stop him (legally) except at the ballot box.
They care about completing the Bush Plan for North Mexico (aka USA)..
That is ALL that Bush League Republicans care about.
Keeping the border open and the laws unenforced until they can get that final amnesty.
